Not sure why there is an outrage to his comments. After all many on here of attacked him pretty harshly and it had nothing to do with him sucking. Someone on here actually said they wished he would get hurt.
I do not recall ever seeing that statement.
It's not as much outrage as it is disappointing. Another black eye, so to speak. I am glad it's finally over for him here, and we can move on.
The few fans that aren't mature enough to handle it don't represent us.
I wouldn't care if Derek Anderson came back and led us to The Promised Land. That he has that talent is another question, and as such, that question will still remain with Seneca Wallace AND Brady Quinn, AND a drafted Sam Bradford.
I just want to get there.

Well in a way he's absolutely right. It's beyond ignorant to boo someone when they get injured. The fans did it to Tim Couch and they did it to Anderson.
It's days like that i'm embarrassed to be a Browns fan.
And anyone who disagrees needs to put their self in his shoes.
I couldn't have said it better myself..
Agreed.
I didn't throw a bottle, I didn't boo Tim Couch when he was laid out on the field and I didn't boo Derek Anderson in the same situation either... yet through mob metality I'm lumped in with those who did. It's sad really.
The only part of DA's statement that I disagree with is the "not deserving a winner" part. Um, wrong DA. We most certainly do. But I do understand him going off about the injury situation. As has been shown repeatedly - even in this thread - there are some real d-bags walking around as Browns fans.

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson says he regrets statements he made blasting Browns fans following his release from the team on Tuesday.
AFC North blog
Walker ESPN.com's James Walker writes about all things AFC North in his division blog.
• Blog network: NFL Nation
On Tuesday, the Browns released Anderson, a former Pro Bowl quarterback, after five years in Cleveland, as the team decided to cast its lot with Brady Quinn and avoid paying Anderson a $2 million roster bonus and a $7.45 million salary in 2010.
The move cames just one day after the team acquired Seneca Wallace in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks.
Following his release, Anderson lashed out at Browns fans in an e-mail to the Willoughby News-Herald.
"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner," Anderson said in the e-mail Tuesday. "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured.
"I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and [we] roll them."
In a statement released Wednesday, Anderson said those words came out of frustration.
“
Anderson I wasn't taken out of context, but I was speaking out of frustration after my career with the Browns came to a close. ” -- Ex-Browns QB Derek Anderson
"I said some things to [News-Herald reporter] Jeff Schudel earlier that I regret," Anderson said. "Those of you who got to know me personally from covering the Browns over the past five years, know this was out of character for me. I wasn't taken out of context, but I was speaking out of frustration after my career with the Browns came to a close.
"I had some great times playing in Cleveland, especially during the 2007 season, and I met some great people and made many lifelong friends along the way," Anderson said Wednesday. "I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life."
According to a league source, Anderson already has two scheduled visits -- first with the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday and then the Arizona Cardinals on Friday.
ESPN.com AFC North writer James Walker and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Have any of you ever given any thought to why people may have booed? Maybe they were booing the team that hurt the player. Maybe they were cheering for the guy coming in. Everyone here assumes the hurt player was being booed...which makes zero sense.
I'm tired of hearing that Browns fans booed their player. I honestly don't believe that has EVER been the case.

Don't people usually cheer whenever an injured player is taken off the field? Out of respect?

Facing reality here, we all know there are fans in Cleveland that have no problem booing their own players or cheering when a guy they don't like gets hurt. Many gladly cheered when Anderson was hurt. Many gladly cheered when Couch went down. But it happens in Philly. It happens in NY. It happens on the west coast. It happens everywhere.
I'm not going to post it because it's a blog, even though it's by James Walker. He says that the fans in Cleveland ARE brutal on QB's, and that the backup is always of legendary status, partially out of frusteration. He goes on to say maybe the fans should rethink how they act.
Here's the reality of it: If all these QB's didn't suck, they wouldn't get boo'ed when playing or cheered when hurt.
Regarding the feelings of the QB's, ALL of them came here having lived privileged lives where they've been adored and cheered since they could first throw a football. Even when they were backups, they weren't boo'ed. So when things go poorly and they earn the fans ire, they aren't mentally equipped to handle the mass amounts of rejection.
Just ask Leon Edwards.
We do have some arseholes fans. That isn't news. It's understandable how a player would become calloused when only, say, 2000 or so fans in a huge stadium cheer when he becomes injured. Being released feels the same to us as being fired, only because it's the first time in their careers they've been given the ideal that they aren't good enough to do their jobs. Nevermind the money involved, it's the ego that remains bruised, leading to the negative comments.
It's simple human failings. Drunk, arsehole fans acting like thugs. Over-privileged, rich, spoiled athletes not being able to handle adversity combined with cameras and reporters in their faces recording every single word.
I'm not going to bury Anderson for frustrated comments as he walks out the door. I'm not sure he's smart enough to understand it all. Only time and experience can do that. He's upset that the Browns didn't contact him. Oh well. That's part of the over-privilege issue. It's easy to hear your people tell you "don't take it personally" but that doesn't make it happen.
He played hard while here and for the vast majority of his time kept his mouth shut. He said what I'd expect the vast majority of players to say given his situation. That doesn't make him a bad guy in my book. That just makes him a human who has lived the privileged life and doesn't know how to act when times get tough.
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***

Booing poor play is a totally different thing, and is more acceptable to me than cheering for an injury. And, I don't know one person that has outwardly cheered because a guy got hurt. That's messed up.

You're right Michelle and the fact he doesn't recognize that is odd. I can see him feeling that way immediately after it happened, but much time has passed since and you think he would have come to his senses by now.
I'm glad he came back and apologized but his words couldn't have been taken out of context. He said what he said out of frustration and that's it.

well said toad. ultimately, people with their own views will use this to just further what they already thought. if they hated DA, and 98% of cleveland did, they hate him more because of this. it's amazing to hear some people be so foolish to say "no one cheered because he was injured" as if they were in the minds of the thousands of fans that were there and all over the country but whatever lets them sleep at night. honestly, it's not even like DA said anything THAT bad and i can guarantee anyone that it is a lot better than what other qbs have probably said in private while leaving cleveland. he called cleveland fans "ruthless." we are. he didn't say we were classless or anything. "ruthless" just means extremely demanding. that's not news to anyone. he may have said we don't deserve a winner but to that, i say the people who cheered his injury and some of these melodramatic guys on this board don't deserve a winner, and i'm not even in his shoes. how quickly people jump on and off a qb's jock is disturbing and frustrating. he said he hopes he and his new team beats cleveland. so what? who cares? DA never had a chance in cleveland, which leads to the following article: Quote:
Simply put, Derek Anderson never stood a chance in Cleveland.
Whether he ever stands a chance anywhere else following his very public displeasure with being released remains to be seen.
But let’s face it, this town, for some reason that I still don’t understand, has been infatuated with Brady Quinn since the day the Browns drafted him.
Every time Anderson took the field, he knew this town wasn’t behind him. He had to play with the thought in his head that every mistake he made, every incomplete pass and every interception he threw, would be greeted with a collective “put in Brady” from the majority of fans.
Quinn, of course, has never won anything in this league.
To be fair, neither has Anderson, but he was this franchises first pro-bowl quarterback in decades after he was 10-5 as a starter in 2007.
In 2008, his receivers couldn’t catch any passes, specifically Edwards, who was his go-to receiver the year before. His offensive line wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire either.
This past season, both quarterbacks were given a decent chance to perform, and neither one of them did anything to show they were good enough. In almost all of the Browns victories this year, it had almost nothing to do with the performance of the starting quarterback (thank you Jerome Harrison and Joshua Cribbs.)
And again, both quarterbacks were dealing with receivers who acted as if the football was covered with anthrax.
I had always liked Anderson and had felt he was dealt a bad hand in Cleveland just because fans wanted Quinn in the game so badly, no matter how well or poorly Anderson performed.
Given time, I think Quinn could develop into a winning quarterback in this league, but it was obvious that neither quarterback was going to succeed on this team as long as both of them were around. Quarterback competitions are sometimes beneficial in training camp, but not during the the whole entire season...for two straight seasons.
Obviously, I’m disappointed with the way Anderson has handled his departure.
Not that I’m saying I don’t agree with some of the things he said. Fans should never boo any injury to any player on any team, let alone your starting quarterback.
I would have figured though, DA would have handled this with more class as he’s never complained publicly prior to this moment.
Also, I don’t think Cleveland fans are ruthless (nevermind the beer bottle throwing incident), just overly passionate, which I include myself in that category.
Sure there are a few nobjobs in the crowd, but don’t group us all together DA.
Having that said, I do wish Anderson the best of luck, even if he won’t do the same for us.
http://news-herald.com/articles/2010/03/10/sports/doc4b979af248499829476689.txt
my views of the guy haven't changed. i always knew he worked hard when he was here, that he gave it his all, and had good leadership. people tried to knock his work ethic, that he wasn't firey enough, that he wasn't a leader yet more and more details come about how late he stayed, how hard he worked, and how much he covered for the poor play of his teammates, never pointing a finger (something quinn will not be able to claim after claiming that the passes will come when we have a run game and fyi, the run game exploded and he still had no passes).
good luck DA. wasn't the best way to leave but both sides are much happier now.

One day after the Cleveland Browns released quarterback Derek Anderson, there is mounting evidence around the league that quarterback Brady Quinn could be next. Cleveland has offered Quinn to other teams, league sources said Wednesday. Not only are the Browns looking into a deal for Quinn, but they also are investigating other quarterback options as well. The Browns are exploring the acquisition of another quarterback through trade, free agency or the draft, according to multiple league sources. These talks come at a time when Cleveland already has added former Seattle backup Seneca Wallace. Should one of these scenarios for another quarterback work out as expected, then Cleveland would have a surplus of quarterbacks, including Wallace and Brett Ratliff. That would leave little room for Quinn, a former first-round draft pick who has struggled to succeed in Cleveland. So there are some asshat fans, big deal. They aren't even close to the majority, but it gives the handwringers ammunition to hate on their fellow fans because if you don't like THEIR favorite player you obviously wish ill upon them. And just like Anderson, the hate on your own fans group LOVES to lump everyone in together and lament about how embarrassed they are to be a Browns fan. Please. I love when a person's real character comes out and Anderson's did with his departure. He's damn lucky he landed with the Browns because there are only a few teams bad enough and stupid enough to pay him a bunch of money and claim him a starter. He had a ton of fans on his side, delusional as they may have been. I still can't figure out what games they were watching....and they are still supporting him despite his being a total jerk on top of being a bad QB. We don't deserve a winner huh, Derek? Well you certainly helped seal that deal when you were here, except for your fluke year that earned you some good money and helped make sure the Browns kept sucking. Anderson's going to come in to town and roll us? He couldn't roll his way out of a wet paper bag. I'm even more happy he is now gone, if that was possible. He doesn't like us? I consider that a compliment.

Cleveland fans used to be known as pretty damn good fans. Now ..... I wonder how we are perceived by players looking at the Browns as a potential team?
Money, geography, and the team's success always play a part in a player choosing a team ..... but how that player will be treated has to enter into the decision as well. I just have to wonder how much effect we, as fans, have in tipping a free agent's decision one way or the other when this is the type of publicity we get?
I agree completly. And why the h*ll would anybody want to live in cleveland ohio? Unless you like the snow you would probably live in california or florida. So we lose out in that department. Then team succes well we have beeen losing out in the department too. So the biggest things we have is a potenitally good fan base and of coarse money. Either way they are gonna get paid. I think as browns fans we need to be more supportive of our players. And if we dont like them do boo them when they are hurt or something of that liking.
Derek thanks for the awesome 2007 season. It was fun. It sucks that you left the town pissed. Good luck in the future too.

Adam Schefter writes to hear himself think, and cover his back. Of course Quinn is being shopped around. But for a few, every player on this team is. It's called new management. They're cleaning house and doing what they're going to do. It doesn't matter whether we think the guy should or shouldn't stay,....what matters is what Holmgren does. And if he isn't lucky enough to get it right, he too, will be shown the door.

As if other groups of fans never boo... and as if anyone is actually giving a damn and/or actually keeping a tally. "Opps, a Browns fan booed... 1 demerit for them!" Fans are fans are fans. Period. Any claim at "we're the best fans" is just egocentric B.S.

Right on,...how could that possibly be measured anyway,... ? Too subjective. If you had to join another group, ignorant of the team's success, who would it be ? Me, I'd join the Green Bay group.

thanks for 2007 DA.
You mean for keeping us out of the playoffs for throwing 4 ints against the Bungals? Derek Anderson sucked, he always sucked, will always suck. He was lucky in the first half of 2007, not good.
The Hate for Derek Anderson here astounds me...it actually shows me how CLUELESS most Browns fans really are...most people "think" they know more then they actually know which is horse puckey (not naming names, these folks know who they are)
Fact: Anderson threw the 2nd most TD passes in a single season in Browns History...with 29 TDs as essentially a ROOKIE he played in 5 games in 06...the big ruble against Kansas City that led to us winning that game...ring a bell?
Fact: Derek Anderson was NEVER treated fairly in Cleveland NEVER....he was NEVER given a fair shake with fans on his back if we were winning or not WANTING Anderson to fail because of Quinn.
Fact: Savage ONLY real mistake was NOT giving Anderson a contract after 2007, BUT KEEPING Quinn was what sealed Savage.
Fact: Had Savage shipped Quinn out of here after the 2007 season and COMMITTED 100% to Anderson as the Browns QB...we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. In Fact Romeo Crennell probably would not have even gotten fired.
Anderson is a "mid-tier" QB in the NFL....he is much better then Quinn and sits "
The kids confidence was destroyed her my mismangement from Savage and the ignorant fans.
Let me ask you a question
even though you were doing an "excellent" job at work..how would you feel if Management wanted to replace you with the boss son even though your doing the best job anyone has that held the job in years?
how would that make you feel? what would that do for your confidence?
the fact is anderson was EVERY bit as good as Sipe and we ran the kid out of town because of the fans and terrible management from Savage.
Anderson should have been COMMITTED TO from day one after the 2007 season and Quinn shipped out of here...we would be a much better team for it right now....
we mishandled this situation.
You have to commit to your QB..you can't go flopping...
my piece is said however.
I don't care if we draft Peyton Manning....this team will SUCK until the fans get off the teams and players backs..that's all their is too it..
As for Anderson costing the Browns the playoffs because of the Bengals? no Anderson didn';t
Anderson threw 4 TD passes Against the Steelers the Previous week...4....Anderson did his friggin job! what more do you want from your QB? Thats a Peyton Manning type of outing...but its not good enough is it? Our Defense blew that game and our chance for the playoffs..not Anderson....Who let Big Ben run for a 60 yard TD the week before? McGinest? our D cost us the playoffs...not Anderson...
however...I think this is commical....what some people think is just illogical, impractible, and just down right insane...
if the fans actually "backed" their players...it would do a lot of good.
don't kid yourself if you don't think the Browns players don't read this forum and see what your saying because they do
regardless of WHO is on our team, they have my full 100% support...do the best you can guys..thats all I ask of ya
im done
By Derek I hope you cream this Browns hard core next year..I hope you throw 5 TD passes against us and embarrass us..NOT because I am not a fan..I LOVE the Browns...but to prove a point TO THESE FANS your a much better player then they gave you credit for...

There was a time when I would have agreed with alot you just said.....But then Anderson played last year and threw all of that out the window.

Can't disagree totally, but instead of shipping Quinn off, perhaps a better move would have been to have never drafted him.
Nobody knew DA was gonna tear up 2007 though.
As good as anyone thinks he may have been, including better than Quinn, both of their bodies of work so far equals zero.
Blame the defense all you want, Anderson had the ball in his hands. Selective memory,...? I'm guilty. But it was what it was.
He's gone and we move forward. That's all there is to it. And that might be what happens to Quinn too. So be it.
