Meanwhile, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora added an interesting twist by reporting the Cardinals might not be done and could add another veteran quarterback to round out the competition.

Fade in from Black.
Phone rings.
An old crinkled man in an jogging suit from 1987 enters the room and picks up the silver and black phone.
"Hello?"
"Al?"
"Yes?"
"Are you interested in trading Charlie Frye?"

I think DA has a good chance of success if he has the weapons around him. His biggest problem is handling pressure. He has a tendency to flub up his footwork in the face a pressure and throwing without his feet set always results in horrible accuracy.

IMO, his perceived inability to throw the short pass was really a misdiagnosis. He can throw the short pass if he keeps his feet set. He did it well through 2007 and in several games in 2008.

With protection and a functioning running game DA is a competent QB in this league and I believe he will show it in Arizona. He has some weapons to throw the ball too---he has a strong running back to hand the ball to and a solid number 1 receiver.

It kind of confused me when we released him and then signed Delhomme b/c I see a lot of similarities in their play. Both of them are streaky and their careers are often marred by games where they throw multiple picks. The only difference is that Delhomme is 35 while Anderson is much younger.

As much as people will think this is stupid---I would almost prefer that we had kept DA over Delhomme. In my mind DA is a younger QB who can be the guy.

It sucks that his career went the way it did. He had a great year his first full year as starter----he showed a lot of promise. From there his career was derailed as injuries mounted on our offensive line and our receiving game fell apart as JJ got hurt and BE became a drop machine. Pair that with the rabid BQ fanbase and the constant turmoil that came within the organization and it is easy to see why he is bitter towards Cleveland.

I think he has a very legitimate shot at being the guy in AZ, and it isn't that unlikely that he can return to his 2007 form.

He can be unstoppable as the QB of a dynamic offensive attack. And I think he will go on to have a solid career once he takes over for Leinart.

And just to go there..........I am certain that DA will go on to have a better career with more statistical and team success than that bum BQ. DA has the ability to be deadly accurate throwing strikes down the field. He has shown flashes of this ability. He has shown flashes of being a great QB. BQ has shown flashes of NOTHING.

Its not tough to figure that DA is the better QB with much, much more promise.

That is why.. Delhomme(IMO) is coming in as a band-aid to groom a successor... It is easier to groom a successor knowing that you only have a few years left in the league rather than someone who is younger who'd want to compete for the job.

Well the FO doesn't seem to think DA is the answer, so they just brought in someone to hold down the fort until they find a new qb to be placed in.

Anderson seems to think Browns gave up on him too soon

Posted by Mike Florio on March 18, 2010 2:23 PM ET

As quarterback Derek Anderson settles in with his new team in Arizona, he's still talking about his last team.

Regarding his failure in Cleveland, Anderson seems to think that he should have gotten more of a chance to keep the starting job.

"We had a lot of change and it was kinda hard," Anderson told KTAR in Phoenix (via SportsRadioInterviews.com). "You kinda stick with the same guys over time and let everybody progress. It didn't exactly happen. I'm just happy that I'm out of there and headed to Arizona."

So he's essentially saying that the Browns shouldn't have benched him after a sluggish start to the 2008 season in favor of the guy for whom they gave up a second-round pick and a first-round pick, Brady Quinn.

As we've previously said, probably six or more times, the Browns should have realized after the 2007 season that Anderson's strong performance was fueled by the fact that everyone expected him to be benched for Brady Quinn eventually, which allowed him to play loosely, and with confidence. And then they should have traded Anderson.

Once 2008 started, Anderson was looking over his shoulder, and it showed up in his play.

Of course, he got another chance in 2009 after Quinn was benched. But a string of starts including full-game passer ratings of 15.1 and 10.5 meant that it was time for Anderson to move on.

Maybe Anderson will play better in Arizona, given the presence of receivers like Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston. But he should never claim he didn't get a fair shake in Cleveland. He got more of a chance than he ever should have received, and he ended up making a lot more money than he ever should have made.

I read this post as well and agree that Anderson is pretty delusional to think he did not get enough chances. Florio wrote a pretty accurate article. that said No One expects him to star or even start in the desert so the situation is perfect...No pressure, it is all on Hot Tub Lienhart. Just maybe Anderson is able to rub his majic lamp one more time..but the guy who posted Scott Mitchell, I agree and called him that the second half of 07 when defenses figured Anderson out and he started FORCING passes to covered players and Anderception was born...but it was the fault of the "ruthless fans" he imploded> yeah right.

That's as bad as saying it was the fault of "the king of queens" that BQ imploded.

They both stunk it up for the Browns. They had to go, and we got all we could for them considering their miserable performances. It's time to move on.

Mangini resembles the guy who played 'Doug' on the TV show King of Queens.
