Tough to even respond to that comparison of Coleman and Watson. Definetely not on the same page with my thoughts. Barely in the same book.
Yeah, not sure I understand it either.. But I'm open to someone explaining it...

I would just like to see Cribbs be effective at something other than running out of the Wildcat. (Other than, obviously, his exceptional special teams play)
Just a thought, but maybe you are asking for too much from the guy.. Just talking out loud here,, but he's so valuable with KO and Punt returns and in the wildcat, that maybe that's good enough.. Just sayin
It is, and he still brings his other intangibles. Even after/once he "loses" his return speed, he'll still be valuable as a 'good ole boy' ST'er.

At his old rate, probably.
At 3 years and $20 million ..... he better be a lot more than a special teams.Wildcat guy.
75 touches and he did gain 26 1st downs. That's a decent help offensively. Massaquoi had 34 catches and gained 24 first downs though. Harrison had about 25% of his touhes result in a 1st down.
Cribbs has been massively overrated as an offensive weapon. He's useful in a limited role, and who knows how defenses will adjust as he continues along his one trick pony path as a Wildcat "QB". If teams make it impossible for him to run, he's out of usefullness, because he cannot pass. Why do I say this? Because if he could pass, the Browns would have had him do so once teams started stacking the box against the Wildcat. Let's not forget also that Cribbs had 6 fumbles (4 lost) in very limited duty. (75 touches, plus 1 INT in 4 pass attempts) That is an ungodly high rate of turning the ball over.
I just worry that the Browns have over-invested in a guy who will never pay off in the way they hope. He's a great special teams guy. He's has strong downside characteristics in every phase of the game offensively. If the Wildcat ever fails him .... he's out of offensive possibilities .... and we have a $20 million special teams ace.

I think this is maybe where you and I have a disconnect. It almost sounds as if you think he's just your average run of the mill special teams/Wildcat guy.. he's anything but average..
Ytown, I know you don't really believe him to be average.. I think you were one of the folks on here saying that the Browns should pay him.. and I agree.
The thing is, he's the exact same player he was before his new contract. The only thing that has changed is the numbers on a paycheck.
And frankly, I believe he was underpaid before and now, it's my belief that he's being paid commensurate with his past and expected future performance.
From my standpoint, he doesn't have to do anything more than continue to do what he has done.
But I honestly think that unlike some players, the money won't go to his head, and my guess is, he'll keep working hard and producing at a consistently high level..
JMO however.

This is a solid signing although many here can agree it does not erase the mind numbing stupid trade(give away) of Kellen Winslow. Mike Holmgren, I believe in a sly side bar reference when asked about "building a team" was quoted you don't throw away talent from the past regime...I think it was a bit of a slap at the way ( Mangini Kokinis) handled both the Winslow and Edwards Flea market deals.. We now know that Heiden is gone and I hope that waste of space TE from Buffalo, that Mangini touted as a top player to fill Winslows spot. Ben Watson will be a solid TE, he is NOT Kellen Winslow, but this is a HUGE improvement over the talent we have, although the youngster Moore looks to have fine hands and I hope gets a lot of playing time.
The best thing about this trade and free agency so far, is dumb and dumber are no longer making player deals( that would be Mangini Kokinis). Mangini will have a red phone in the draft room but i think Holmgren will make sure it is unplugged.
