they let Thomas Jones go...and want to sign LaDanian Tomlinson?
Is it because theyre willing to let Shonn Greene start? Thats the only way this makes sense...because LT is going to want the same kind of money that Thomas Jones wanted...if not more.
i think that if they sign LT for more than 2 year $5 million deal, then they screwed themselves.
any opinions?

The Jets wanted Jones back, just not at his original salary. I'm guessing they were willing to pay him what he got from the Chiefs, but he wanted a change of scenery.

I think you could say the same thing about the vikes- they let Chester Taylor go (to a division rival) and now are looking at signing LT. I would have just payed Taylor....

thats true too...but Taylor wanted more money than LT will want, so its a money saving mission there.
but apparently...the Jets have offered LT a 2 year $5 mil deal...which is EXACTLY what Thomas Jones is making in KC. But...he wouldve made $3 mil a year for the Jets...
theyre willing to pay an oft-injured, considered to be washed up running back 2.5 mil but not 3-4 mil to Thomas Jones? I just dont see it.

I though when the owners opted out of the CBA, for the final 4 teams in the NFL playoffs to sign a free agent, they had to lose a free agent. How is it they can sign LT after not losing any players. I guess they lost Jones, but he was released, so I didn't think he would count.

They are putting some decent folks together. I think there are other teams to trade with. They are just one more team to beat for the marbles; I do not like them. But with Wishigan talent, they are what they are.

close, but since Tomlinson was cut, they are allowed to pursue him. Quote:
The rule will restrict the final eight teams in the playoffs from signing free agents. The final four teams shall not be permitted to negotiate and sign any unrestricted free agent to a player contract except for players who acquired their status by being cut or were on the final four team when their contract expired. Playoff teams five thru eight get a break to sign one player with a salary of $4,925,000 or more and any number of players with a first-year salary of no more than $3,275,000 and an annual increase of no more than 30 percent in the following years.
