Wow,, this will tick a few of you off..... Quote:
Cleveland Browns cornerback Brandon McDonald earns big league bonus By Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer March 23, 2010, 12:54PM
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Either Brandon McDonald is grossly underpaid or he shouldn't be on the field as much as he is.
For the second year in a row McDonald scored a sizable chunk of change from the NFL's "performance-based pay" program. The system essentially rewards players who play a lot and outperform their contract.
McDonald was awarded $248,403 from the league-wide pool of $109.5 million set aside for the program. That was more than one-half of his base salary of $460,000. His bonus was 24th-highest given out by the league.
McDonald played in all 16 games, starting 10, and had one interception, one sack and was 11th on the team with 47 tackles.
A year ago, when McDonald started 15 games and had five interceptions, he earned $329,803 through the program -- nearly equal his 2008 base salary of $370,000.
McDonald is entering the final season of his rookie contract. He has been demoted at least three times in the past two years, but reclaimed his starting spot each time. His job is in jeopardy this season as the Browns have identified cornerback as one of their top

I don't notice him on twitter anymore. Does anyone know if he deleted his account after the hitting his girlfriend incident?

I liked this line:
"Either Brandon McDonald is grossly underpaid or he shouldn't be on the field as much as he is. "
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Whether he "rated" it or not, I for one was pretty pleased to even learn there was such a thing.
I think all (or, maybe the majority,...) of their compensation(s) should be based on performance related issues.

Just a random thought.. possibly except for the part I bolded would this have described Cribbs in the past?.. I don't know what the qualifier is for "play a lot"
Hmm.. ah well we did re-do that contract anyhoo.

Yeah, maybe the word should have been "contribute" a lot,...makes me wonder what Cribbs' "NFL" bonus would have been,....

Who cares if McDonald got a bonus? We didn't award it, the league did. No big deal.

Deserves every penny IMO. A starting corner making the three-year vet minimum? He's not a good tackler, no... but he is a decent cover guy. People still blame him for the Denver game 2 years ago when Pool blew his read and didn't cover Royal over the top. For this amount of money (salary + bonus = 1/5 of Robert Royal) I think he deserves it.

As a 5th round pick.. I think McDonald has done well, and has exceeded everyones expectations.. A guy who went to Memphis and is now playing in the NFL.. I have to tip my hat to him.
If he could get out of those mental lapses he has.. he could get his starting spot back.

BMac and Wright are horrendous tacklers. Both have their moments..
I swear Wright was involved in EACH and EVERY long run a HB had against our team in 2009.

I only remember one good hit. I remember a bunch of whiffs. Maybe if he had to fork over a charity penalty for every blown cover and missed tackle. Nah. Can't imagine that would net out much for him.

Apparently the pay for performance bonus is calculated along the lines of:
Blown coverages + (Missed tackles x junky arm tackles) x twitter posts challenging fans to do better DIVIDED BY The number of Browns' fans that think you're still starting quality

McD would make a decent starter/good nickel if he ever put some effort in. The dude has the tools to succeed, it just seems like he doesn't care.

just clickin' Deepthreat. What has the dawgtalk community become? Are we really complaining about a guy who gets paid performance based escalators? REALLY?!?. Personally, I don't care what the amount is, I hope every player we have hits every performance bonus built into his contract. People, Seeing this as anything other than a good thing is twisted. Next thing you know people will complain if our team gets playoff checks because they only made it to the first round.

I like McDonalds.
I have a vested interest, but I liked it before I did....I don't invest in something I don't like.

I don't think folks would complain about this as a performance bonus, because it isn't. It is a bonus going to a player who was one of our weaker points on the team, who played because we had nobody better to put in his place, and he got the bonus based on the perceived discrepancy between his pay and the amount of playing time he got.
As for me, however, I don't care. He shouldn't have ever been more than a Nickleback here, and he'll be back in that role by summer. If he can get some bonus money along the way, more power to him because I don't see him ever hitting the big payday as a free agent.

Mcdonald covers well sometimes, makes plays that change games sometimes, plays of anticipation that can backfire and he gets beat. Any gf issue is not my business. I'm glad he is on the field over Sorenson or ? . Eric Wright is maybe the best defensive player the Browns have.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I'm still shocked n sickened by what I saw him do or not due in the Pittsburgh game this year, I think we all saw him delebritly not tackle a ball carrier, he simpley did not want to get him or do the hitting, he avoided contact, during a game, this wasnt a sidline play or a possible late flag, this was in the middle of the field during the game AGAINST PITTSBURGH....AGAINST PITTSBURGH.....AGAINST PITTSBURGH YOU HIT THE BALL BOY, GATORADE CUP FILLER, YOU hit the old lady in the stands with a steelers jersey on....why not Rothlesburgher hits it...LOL...
Anyway I have never seem anything more sissy than BM in that game, I dont care what the excuse was or is, it's gonna take a few man up games for him to get out of the dog house.
as for the money I dont care, theres more things to life than money. Funny becuase BM lack of tackling has cost him one of those things,

I don't get why the eggs are different on the Egg McMuffin than on the biscuit bacon and egg sandwich. On the biscuit sandwich the egg is all yellow and folded over where the Egg McMuffin it is some mostly white and molded in some pan or something. Why make them different ways?

The egg McMuffing in the beginning was to be almost like a Eggs Benedict with a hollandaise and softer center, but after some testing before product rollout it was determined to drop the sauce and cook the yolk...to messy.
Those eggs are just poached in a egg rig, yolk slightly broken until hard cooked.
Biscuit eggs are beat eggs ladled on to the grill.

I agree with your post TOTALLY. WE have had HORRIBLE safety support since Eric Turner blew town. McDonald,, a kid with some skills has NO SUPPORT over the middle or up top as our safeties routinely blow coverages and make any third and long easy for an QB. Give this Kid a berry at Safety and watch how it helps him. I agree that the lemmings seem ti pick out a player and trash him...years ago it was the center who was so horrible Savage dumped the former #1 pick to move up a couple spots in the SECOND ROUND. Jeff Faine was pilloried as a horrible player, while I thought he had the worst set of Guards in the NFL next to him.. Faine has made several pro bowls, and those guards are all out of the league. I wish people would take a siesta and let this kid develop, if we move him it will be a mistake, and faine, it took THREE YEARS to find a center to make up for that one.

Jeff Faine was a Pro Bowl alternate. Once. One is not the same thing as several.

You guys have to be kidding me ragging on a guy who was a fourth (fifth?) round pick and plays at the minimum salary. Would you rather poteat had started opposite wright? The "tackle" in the Pitt game were ridiculous but that was after the fans turned on him.
This reminds me of the Ricky Davis situation where a guy who probably shouldn't be put into the role they're in but are because there are no better options... the difference being that mcdonald isn't getting benched for trying to win.

I'm about to rag on U.. First thing..I don't care where a corner is drafted..if he is AFRAID to tackle ,his butt needs to be jettisoned.. news flash, he had several games where he whiffed on tackles,it wasn't just the Pukesburgh game...I don't want anyone on this team like that.

whiffing and avoiding are different. I was talking about the awful contact-avoidance in the pittsburg game. He's not a good tackler, particularly of running backs, but if we had decent LBs he wouldn't be asked to be.
And I disagree about Wright's tackling "deficiencies," I think he's actually a pretty good tackler for his position and size.
