I am not pretending it didn't happen, nor think it was all that smart to be honest....I just don't see it as a threat.
At any rate, it doesn't matter. He isn't going to get fired or suspended or anything like that, so at maximum it is a minor matter.
The good is the reporter is no longer welcomed. I always liked the old Ditka PC's when he called people out and asked them if they were a idiot....I could see myself doing that so maybe that is why I embrace it, or at least don't see the big deal.
So what is your motivation in all of this....simply to "report the news" or something else?
It doesn't matter Lex....I kind of like having the team other fans don't like....it means you are good.
I would rather have it that way then have a team nobody thinks about.
I hope in a few years the Browns are the type of team most fans other than us hate because after all, would we really care??.
See, in other parts of the country, people don't really like OSU. I hear it on the local sports talk show all the time how OSU is this and OSU is that....that's a sign of respect IMO.
While I can't say I am the biggest OSU booster anymore....partly due to the attitudes I have dealt with in the 7 years I have been around this place, I still pull for the Bucks most of the time, though I will have to say I am not sure who I want to win the BB game tomorrow since my states team is involved. I'll probably sit back and watch and be happy no matter the outcome...I can root for either down the stretch..

I pretty much hate Florida, but I think what ESPN is saying and how they're saying it is a crock.

Still, why would the father want to attack the reporter then? In the info that has been gathered since I last posted, I see that it is the WR's father. I still do not understand how quoting the WR about how the new QB can be an improvement as something that I'd want to kill a reporter over.
Perhaps the reporter should have misquoted him and make it sound like they are doomed without Tebow? WATCH OUT, WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING BECAUSE WE ARE IMPROVING!
Realistically do I see an improvement in this situation? No. But should we kill all of our reporters because the stories have been encouraging since the FO shift? I mean, changes have been made here and they are making it sound as if we are improving! Oh no, we better ban all of the Cleveland media from practices too!

Not picking on you....just quoting for my next question....
Again, what did the reporter do that was bad? He quoted a WR that sounded like he was bashing Tebow. Unless I'm missing something, and I might, what did the reporter do outside of his job....to report what the WR said?

I must not be up to speed here - Meyer is the rec's father? What am I missing?

To me it doesn't matter.
I would be the same way...and am...I defend my people.....screw the punk reporter...I don't care if he is right or wrong....Meyers defended his guy, now I defend my guy....especially when it is a chickeslip deal anyway.
So what??? He kicked a reporter out of practice.
To me, at a PC it is one thing....when in someones house it is another. I don't know what this guy did to tick Urban off, but I do know he is a pretty level headed coach....must be the Ohio in him.....he doesn't like him....I don't like him.
Pretty plain and simple for me.
I will add.....you could tell by the look on the reporters face he knew it was "What did I just do" moments.
It's like some some reporter for the Tuscaloosa News ticking off Bear Bryant.
I am not comparing Meyer to Bryant.....just to be illustrative.

I'm just confused.
You're happy Urb flexed his muscle just for the sake of flexing his muscle?
I don't see what the reporter did that was so wrong. The WR wasn't taken out of context or had his quote twisted...he even goes on to say in the article that the WR's reputation is reliable.

No, it's just that your responses to this are so ridiculous, that I wanted to express my feeling towards them, but I didn't think the crap you were spewing was worth more time than just a

Well, I re-read the articles and re-watched all the videos then read your response.....Outside of fan devotion to your coach I see no possible way ANYONE could defend Meyer's actions. I get you're supporting your coach cause he's "your coach" but he IS wrong. Defend him all you want, but you're defending a bully that had NO right to react that way to a reporter. The reporter got the quote right and sent it to the paper. Meyer needs to go blast the WR for making such a confusing statement.
Meyer told him he shouldn't have quoted a player and printed it.....why? Because the quote appeared to not support one of Meyer's former players. So he threatened to beat him (which he did when saying he'd start swinging if the WR was his son). Meyer looks like a paranoid coach acting with impunity solely because he can....cause he's "the head coach of Florida football".
It doesn't knock Meyer down in my book....because all coaches act like this. Most have to be a bully to get their message across to the players so they act like that to EVERYONE else.
And I'm not knocking you Peen, I get it. Protect your own, even if you know they're wrong. It's cool. But ultimately, the reporter was doing his job and didn't mess up.

Desperation is a stinky cologne. My motivation to post something on an internet message board? Global domination and the shaving of small puppies, of course. Or maybe it's even more sinister...maybe it is for discussion!

Which would be great if it were attention because you guys were good, but it's attention because your coach acted like an ass. And you don't even need to have a good football team to get that kind of attention.

Apparently on the way home Coach Urban stopped at Burger King for a Cheeseburger, he berated the kid that gave it to him because it had cheese on it. He said if it happens again nobody that works at Burger King will ever be able to watch a college football game again. Sadly there is no film of the 90 seconds before he ordered a cheeseburger though.

But what did he do to get that puinishment? Quote a WR on Meyer's team. I'm not understanding why, even if it's within Meyer's rights, to ban the reporter from the practice field. He didn't do anything wrong.
The WR never said that Tebow wasn't a "real" quarterback - this is what the reporter left out.
The reporter capitalized on the quote and used it to create headlines. - The reporter knew what he was doing - using a quote in a misleading way.
It's obvious that Deonte Thompson meant to say that Tim Tebow is not a conventional quarterback. - However, Thompson is young and didn't use the best words available and the reporter took advantage of this.
Urban Meyer is a smart, smart, very smart, guy. He sees this for what it is, and called the reporter out. - I give Meyer credit for doing it this way.
However, the media is a gang that sticks together. - Insult or threaten one of their own, and they will do everything they can to make your life harder. Want proof? - Listen to the Jim Rome show tommorow, get his take on this. Watch how ESPN and other Florida media outlets report on Meyer next season. No doubt in my mind that Meyer just made his life in Florida a little harder. - Every sports personality who clashes with the media has a hard time going forward.
Does any of this matter? No, because Urban Meyer will be an NFL coach after next season. The guy is too good to stay in the college ranks. I'm surprised he's not coaching in the NFL this year.

The guys acts like a arrogant douchebag, I guess being a fan of Florida you are tolerant of that because of the winning. Others dont have that loyalty to him and they see he is a ....

Muni, the video of the interview and the written article are in this thread. Thompson said what he was quoted as saying...and the writer even called into question that he probably meant something else. Only the biased and the blind can't see this one.

The video seems awfully cherry picked to me. Isn't it rather convenient that the Orlando Sentinel doesn't include the video several seconds prior to when they do?
That's what I was getting at.....I was wondering if I missed something. Did he say something inappropriate before that?
Because Meyer popped off without a good reason from what was actually SHOWN, IMO.

This was all UM fault. If he'd recruit student athletes that actually attend English 101 instead of knuckle dragging neanderthals, this never would have happened in the first place.

I have to give a little credit to Mayer for stepping up and apologizing, and I also like the fact that he did it man to man with the reporter and didnt do a Tiger Woods apolgy through the media.
I still think the guy is a jerk but like what he has done in this case.
