You bring up a great point about Atlanta that I hadn't given too much thought to. The promotion of Atlanta. The only reason I can think that this wouldn't happen is that the NFL, I think, tries to avoid intra-division games for the opener. I still think Minnesota is the pick and Pittsburgh was slated for that spot before "stuff" hit the fan for them this month. But the ATL in that spot wouldn't be a shock. I just hope Cleveland @ New Orleans is not 1) the opener, 2) Halloween weekend or 3) Thanksgiving weekend.

I agree that they try to avoid divisional games in the opener, but it was the best angle I could come up with to preserve the Viking game for later.
you are probably right that they just bite the bullet and go Brees v. Favre in the opener though.

I'd bet they are reconfiguring 100 games to make it possible for Ben R. to make his season debut at Cleveland.

Good grief... I love NFL football as much as the next guy, but two shows covering the NFL schedule release?? No thanks... I think it would be more interesting to try to sneak up on some blades of grass to see if I can catch them growing.

Just go to NFL.com during the show and you can see the Browns' schedule without having to see all the other BS.

Considering we already know WHO we're playing, I doubt I'll bother to check at all. Unless you're like Peen and you need to make travel plans, who really cares about WHEN we play these guys. Pretty much a non-event in my book. :: shrug ::

Of course, I'm planning a road trip... or 2.
1 to Nawlins (my favorite football roadtrip) and hopefully 1 to Minneapolis in October.
I don't want us to be the opener because getting tix in NO will then be impossible and the home team always wins that game. I don't want Halloween because that is supposed to be to Minnesota. And I don't want Thanksgiving because, well it's Thanksgiving and OSU-UM weekend her in Columbus.
New Orleans in early December is always nice...

I haven't been to NO in a while, but I doubt I'll be able to make it....but who knows....just depends on when it hits in relation to some home games I will attend.
More than likely I will hit the Tampa game. My brother lives in the Tampa Bay area and my parents are buried there and haven't paid my respects in a couple of years, so Tampa will probably be the destination for me.

the jacksonville and new orleans away games are very tempting for me. I'll be moving to memphis this year, so the Saints game is very possble.

Yeah, it would be pretty nice if they scheduled the Tampa game late in the year. May have to take a road trip for that one!

don't we have 3 games in the state of florida this year? the chances of that schedule are probably very slim

Yes we do....and we aren't going to play them all in the same month. They will more or less be spread out in thirds.

Yeah, I think it's supposed to be tonight. I'm sure ESPN and the NFL Network will have a big to-do about it.
Hell, I'm surprised they're not going to start announcing it one week at a time starting at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday so they have a perfect segue into the draft.

Yes, 100% change.
Roger Goodel was on Mike&MIke and confirmed. One of the Mike's asked about the resting of starters that happened at the end of the season last year and RG said, "We took that in consideration when designing this years schedule. There will be more divisional games the last three weeks of the season. 65 this year instead on 20-something last year. And every game in the final week will be a divisional game."
I'm paraphrasing above.
My guess, we'll end with the Bengals. I think the league will want to end with the Steelers and Ravens.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...ng-nflcom-chat/Commish could be giving a brief schedule preview during NFL.com chat Posted by Mike Florio April 20, 2010 10:38 AM ET At 2:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Commissioner Roger Goodell will be chatting with fans at NFL.com. (And the folks who'll be screening the questions surely can't wait for all of the questions submitted via made-up names, humorous or otherwise.) NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy has dropped a hint, Twitter style, regarding one of the possible topics that Goodell will address. "Someone should ask him who the Saints open with," McCarthy says. Oh, Brian, someone will. The only question at this point is whether the question will be asked by Brett Fart or Ben Rapistberger. We still think it will be Vikings at Saints, September 9, on NBC and with PFT invading the Vikings Radio Network for at least the third quarter, possibly more.

Yes'em..
On to another point....I also think the schedule containing a back loading of division games is also an effort to help teams sell tickets.....good move.
I think all teams pretty much sell out the rivalry games, so you might as well place them near the end of the season where teams are out of the running or the weather really sucks...how far in advance are people going to shell out money for a game against the Panthers??
In Cleveland, at least have weather on your side.....more people are going to shell out money for a nice Oct afternoon over a cold December afternoon.
If the teams record can't lure fans, let rivalries lure fans.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...on-nflcom-chat/Commish will unveil season-opening game on NFL.com chat Posted by Mike Florio April 20, 2010 1:59 PM ET Earlier today, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy strongly hinted that Commissioner Roger Goodell will reveal the participants in the season-opening game on September 9 during a live chat at NFL.com. We've just learned that he definitely will be doing so. The home team is the Saints. The road team? Our money is on the Vikings.

I really think we will be @cincy for week 17
also, I hate the idea of divisional games in week 17. Divisional games should be played when both teams have something to play for. This will make divisional games less important this year.

It means teams will most likely STILL have something to play for by week 17. I love it.

I see that, but a very realistic situation will be divisional games where you have have the browns playing the steelers 3rd string team. That doesn't bring anything to the rivalry, it takes away from it.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/20/goodell-confirms-vikings-saints-will-open-season/Goodell confirms Vikings-Saints will open season Posted by Michael David Smith April 20, 2010 2:22 PM ET NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has confirmed what everyone suspected: The first game of the 2010 regular season will be the Minnesota Vikings at the New Orleans Saints. "I know I will get in trouble from our scheduling makers for releasing this in advance," Goodell wrote in a live chat at NFL.com, ignoring the fact that he is the ultimate schedule maker, "but the Saints will be hosting the Minnesota Vikings for our Kickoff game. It should be a great celebration in a great city." The game will take place on Thursday, September 9, and be shown on NBC. The only question now is whether Brett Favre will be under center for the Vikings. We'll find that out in about four months.

Not too surprising that that's the season opener. Hopefully it's as good a game to watch as the playoff game was.

What is the perfect bye week?
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I've always thought right in the middle, similar to 2009, would be perfect.
I wouldn't want the first couple weeks because, if you're in the hunt toward the end of the season, you'd like that one week to get healthy.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...t-world-series/Leak of Steelers schedule puts Saints game against World Series Posted by Mike Florio April 20, 2010 4:24 PM ET With fewer than three hours remaining until the NFL drops the sheet on the 2010 schedule, count on multiple leaks to be sprung. For starters, one of the Pittsburgh radio stations that broadcasts Steelers games on radio has posted the team's entire schedule. According to WDVE, the Steelers host the Falcons on September 12. On September 19, the Steelers play at Tennessee. The next Sunday, at Tampa. Then, they host the Ravens before taking a bye. The bye would be conveniently timed, if quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is suspended four games. On October 17, the Steelers host Cleveland. Then, it's off to Miami. Next comes a Sunday night game on October 31, at New Orleans. And that's a significant date because it likely conflicts with one of the early games of the World Series. In unrelated news, Bud Selig's head just exploded. The following Monday, it's off to Cincinnati, capping three straight road games. Next comes a Sunday night visit from the Patriots, followed by a return trip from the Raiders to Pittsburgh. On November 28, the Steelers go to Buffalo, a week before hosting the Ravens in a Sunday night game, which in theory would be subject to flexing. The season wraps with a visit from Santonio Holmes and the Jets, a Thursday night game against the Panthers, and finally a road trip to Cleveland. Those last two games mesh with prior reports suggesting that the Penguins will host the Capitals on January 1 at Heinz Field. Whether the schedule is legit remains to be seen. The league typically tries to avoid putting a team on the road for three straight games. We'll know whether WDVE has nailed it come 7:00 p.m. E.T.

Thanks for posting. I would assume that they plan on suspending Big Ben the first 4 games. In reality, their schedule looks pretty difficult.
I'm excited to see our schedule, but I have a feeling there will be zero primetime games, and we will probably host the first game against a tough team again.

I actually read on the WVE website that the game in week 6 is a 1pm start time...as is the last week of the season.
