Yup. I think i saw it posted yesterday or it was rumored we signed him...not sure. I'm getting old

Not crazy about him but he has alot of starts and is brought in to be a backup and thats all. I think the knock on him is his pass blocking being a weakness.

Very average but that is what we knew and wanted.

Good pickup IMO

You know who would have been a perfect back up center that could also back up the guard position? Hank Fraley!.....Oh wait.....

That move has had me scraching my head for some time.

Must have been more to that move than we all are privy to know.

I like the signing of Ghichuic. Another solid move to ensure that we aren't drafting to fill needs but rather taking the BPA, especially in the later rounds.

Ghichuic...I'm pretty sure I remember Rogers abusing him when he played for the Bengals.

Either way, decent signing. He's no worse than Hank.

I think this is Hank almost in reverse. Hank was more of a technician and a better pass blocker....Ghichuic is more of a mauler and better run blocker...and that is the mold that Mangini is looking for....run first oriented...It is why we drafted Mack to begin with...

I don't know much about Ghichuic upstairs....I really liked Fraley in that department. That was good for Mack's development...But perhaps, Mack is at a point where that is not needed so much and Ghichuic fills in just fine.

Can't do much but trust their judgement in this regard,... and hope for the best.

If this IS the schtick, I don't mind running the ball while the defense is still a big question mark.

Hank's wife was on here and made it very clear that the release was a complete shock to them. No comment whatsoever about reduced PT or money.

I scratch my head on it too. Unless FO thought they could replace him for cheaper? That's the only thing I can think of or he rubbed someone the wrong way in our FO.

Could very well be for the reason that Pete said a few posts up.

From what i have read on him he is very limited in his pass blocking. It is a big weakness. On the other hand (as Pete posted) and as i have researched him i found that he is a very good run blocker that can fit into certain offensive schemes well.

He is brought in to be a backup guys....

The weakness is in reverse when compared to Fraly...IMo...its a push.

I think we all want the same thing,...for the madness to result in good method,...or,....for the method to result in some "mad" football.

Hank added more to the team than just being a back up center. When he was playing RG he really held down the fort pretty good over thier and it was very nice to have him on the team as the Back up if something happened to Mack..

So ,, I think you are undervaluing Hank when you make that comment.... JMO however.

Hank was a good mentor to Mack for his first year, no doubt about it.

However, we were going to need an upgrade at RG anyway, and Hank certainly doesn't fit into a run first offense, so it was time to move on. Ghichuic is a better fit for the system and is decent enough to be an average backup.

Let's hope Mack doesn't get hurt, though.

Agreed. Letting him go was a mistake in my mind. Wont be convinced of otherwise.

Let me begin by saying I have been impressed with the Browns off-season. You guys seem to have brought in veteran, team guys who are still young enough to have an impact in the league. However, trust me when I say Eric Ghaciuc is not good. He is a bad fit in the AFC North. He has trouble getting any push in the run game against big guys and gets mauled repeatedly in the pass game. The Bengals offensive line got considerably better this year and much of that is because of the huge upgrade from Ghaciuc to Kyle Cook. You guys got a great one in Alex Mack so it shouldn't be a big deal but I would be concerned if this guy gets any real playing time.

Not many get a good push against big guys....like Hampton , Ngata and Rogers. The BEST struggle there. That is one of the reasons why guy like Ghauciuc become backups.

The same was said of Faine , O'hara and even Fraley..... yet in the right system they can be effective.

Again...he is a backup and it is still debateable whether he is a upgrade over Fraley or not.

Both have lots of starts so that meens they CAN get the job done (or at some point they could) .

Who knows if this guy will even make the final roster. Perhaps the Browns will draft a center/guard in the later rounds to backup Mack. Way, way too early to put much into a signing such as this.

True,...but the suspense and/or need could have been eliminated/fixed with no questions had Hank been retained.

Bridge,...water,..etc.

There's gonna be a lot of guys that don't make this roster.

I feel kinda like Pete. They are absolute in reverse when it comes to there strength versus weaknesses. More so a push IMO.

The part that does get me is the versatility of Hank. Hank could play C or G. Eric (as far as i know) is a C only. Thats the one thing that would push Hank slightly over Eric.
Yet if the FO feels that we are gonna sign or draft a Stud guard and then use Porkchop as a tackle who can play guard...then i can understand the reasoning a little more on losing that versatility with Hank.

So as far as having a backup at center....Hank and Eric is equal with positives and negatives being opposites. Attitiudes is a question mark. Not sure about Eric...Hanks is great.
Vesatility....Hank would get the nod but i can understand per the reason i noted.

Not a upgrade...but a verticle move i would say (age being a posible factor) . Depends on what we draft whether or not we can see the method behind the madness!!!!!

maybe it's strictly a money thing with Hank.. not sure what his contract called for, but I bet it's higher than this new guy... Just a guess however.

Good point Cal......we have little invested.

Watch the draft....we might see a picture a little clearer then.
