I am in the great state of Wyoming doing some consulting work.

The weather here is horrible!! Anybody know when it warms up here?

Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do for fun in this God forsaken wilderness?

I am in the southwest part of the state, Utah is just a stone's throw from here.

I'll do some hunting with my camera, that's as close to shooting as I'll get.

Head north ... go to Yellowstone or Gran Tetons. Other than that, there isn't much to do there.

You might get lucky and get warm weather towards the middle of May. I was on the other side of the state when I was there, but I'm sure the people are probably just as nice where you're at. I don't have a problem going to a bar and just start talking to someone. Just saying hi was enough to get a conversation going, because of my accent. Maybe you're not that type of person, but if you are it's pretty easy to find people to spend some fun time with.

Cruise over to Salt Lake City and do some skiing, or... take up fishing?

It's Wyoming, try riding buffalo or a staring contest with a tree

The people have all been incredibly nice and very friendly, you are absolutely correct about that! I'm not one to go to a bar by myself.

Hop on over to Utah, announce that you're gay, and ask them where you can find a good realtor to help you buy some property because you want to build a church.. that should be fun and keep you busy for the rest of your trip....

Back in 85 I went through Wyoming and stopped at a little town called Red Desert, for gas lunch and a brew, I thought it would be a quick stop but I engaged in conversation with an old timer, Milton George was his name, at the time aged 102 years, he told me about all the history he lived through, including the cattle drives he was on during his youth. I know you said you don't like going to bars by yourself, but striking up conversations with old timers is great in my opinion. Heck you could find some old timers in coffee shops too, I love to hear about this countries past history from the people who lived through it.

Sounds like a good place to make fun of people on the internet.

I'd love to run into somebody like that. I don't suppose Milton is still around.

Cleve, make fun of people? Sorry, that is not in my nature.

You are very close to my favorite place on earth. If there's any chance, go to Yellowstone. All the critters are having babies now....elk, bison, grizzlies, wolves, moose etc. and it's the best time of year to get pics of them. The weather is very unpredictable, though. It's also the very best time to get pics of the Tetons.

I fully intended to take a weekend and go up there, until I realized it was over 6 hours away.....and it won't stop snowing!

I haven't completely ruled it out. If I end up staying here a couple more months I may just go. I know I'll kick myself if I don't.

You definitely have to keep an eye on the weather. You can get snow until June in the parks. We have cabins rented in the Tetons and Yellowstone this summer, I can't wait to get back there. If you make it up there, remember 3 things....sunscreen, chapstick and plenty of water. You can get dehydrated and sunburnt in a hurry even in the cool temps.

They are called the high plains, but you could almost call it the high desert.

None the less...I have found westerners pretty straight forward and accepting folks.

Hope all is well!

Jules, I recommend a visit to SLC. I was there a little over 2 years ago and thought it was gorgeous. I went up into the mountains, did a little hiking. Went to the Great Salt Lake and walked around a bit. Went into downton SLC to see the Mormon headquarters. Didn't stop though since by the time I found a parking spot, it was actually time for me to head off to the airport.

Haha, have fun in the vast nothingness. Montana is far better than that state. I second taking a trip to Yellowstone....thats about all there is to do there. Me on the other hand, live right in the middle between Yellowstone and Glacier as well as tons to do around me as well.

I suggest that you drive to Utah, become a morman, and take on 6 new wives.

Oh course I also suggested they build the Hindenburg, and drive faster on the Titanic
