What did you guys think of it? I didnt think it was a good move on Nikes end. I thought it was lame, it doesnt really endorse a Nike product, I guess it endorses the name itself. I see this commercail as a huge waiste of money. Its not going to make people go by Nike products based on that commercail. Nike is one of the few products I buy based on name recognition. I wont buy Nike products just because it is Nike but I will look for a pair of Nike shoes or a shirt I like with its logo. Usually on sale. For a while there, around 8 years ago, I thought everything Nike was putting a label on looked like moon boots. The L2s were nice but thats alot more recent then the moon boot comment.
But usually Nike ads are usually brilliant in getting people to buy their products. Anyhting with Jordan and Bo Jackson, was going to sell. I also like Nikes Karma campaign in the early 90s. They really started the huge trend in signing top name athletes. Causing Reebok to give millions to Shaq and Frank Thomas, only to see they are losing money and forcing them to drop the endorsement. Nike was and is above in beyond in athlete endorsement. I dont think anyone can find another product thats better in athlete endorsement.... Maybe Gatoraid.... Vitamin Water did alright considering their product is nasty.
Now Im not upset Nike didnt drop Tiger. I dont think they should based on his infidelity. Did you know that Tiger got the record for being on the cover of the New York Post beating out 9/11? Thats ridiculous. I dont want to beat a dead horse here because Im as sick of hearing about Tiger as the next person. ESPN even made the commercail one of their stories and put Tiger Woods Commercail in their upcoming stories on the side of the screen. Before this even happened. Tiger brought this upon himself by going into hiding. If he would have came out maybe a month later, way before big golf events, we might be done talking about it. IMO, that was a huge mistake on his part by hiding for 6 months. I dont even want to get into sex rehab. I think thats more of a cop out then anything trying to label it a disease. I think he just thought he was untouchable, nobody around him would stand up to him, and he thought these rules didnt apply to him. Hes pretty much admitted that in his first press conferance. But I am curiose if anyone actually thinks this is a good move by Nike airing that ad. I dont think its going to change anyones mind on Tiger but just show his fans that Nike got his back. I think it will make a very few less people buy Nike... not more. I dont see moms going out and loving the fact that their kid wants a new Nike Tiger t-shirt or his new video game. Or maybe the cheating husband will watch the commercail and jump up in front of his wife and say "Im going to get me a set of Nike clubs! See you later honey. Ill be back Sunday night after my golf trip!" I wouldnt put it past Nike if they knew of some of his problems. Kinda like Lane kiffen pimping out hot college students to bring in a recruit. This is America and sex sells so I can see a rep from a big product like Nike, who doesnt have a household name or face, hooking Tiger up with a local stripper.
So, do any of you think this was a good move by Nike? I dont have a problem with the fact that they are standing behind one of their biggest investments. Tiger is to golf as what Jordan was to basketball. Jordan had some infidelity and gambling issues but Nike didnt put it in our faces.
Here is also a link to some parodies of the Nike ads.
http://www.popeater.com/2010/04/08/tiger...ial-parodies%2FI didnt think they were that funny. Some were funny but I thought they could have done better. I like the first one, the Morgan Freeman and Kennedy one, and the Jimmy Kimmel one was funny. They also have the commercail where someone put one of Tigers actual phone calls to one of his mistresses. When I saw the commercail, the first thing that went thru my mind was they would do a parody with Star Wars. Have Dark Vaders voice saying "Tiger, I am your father" and then add a couple more lines. Maybe then just repeat what Tigers father says mixed in with Vaders dark breathing.
