Wow, talk about a choke in Boston! The Bruins are up 3-0 in the series then lose three in a row to the Flyers. The have game 7 at home and proceed to go up 3-0 in the 1st period....then Philly slowly comes back. The Flyers score their 4th goal late in the 3rd on a PP off a too many men on the ice penalty.

I would have rather had the Celts choke their series away but it sure is nice to see them fail so hard.

Montreal (8) vs Philly (7)
Chicago (2) vs San Jose (1)

jeez. you can flip a coin on either one of those series'

i know montreal is hot, but pittsburgh and washington didn't fully respect them. i think philly has that same underdog mentality. remember, they may not be an 8th seed, but they were the last team into the playoffs, they had to win in a shootout on the very last day to beat out the rangers. unreal.

i want chicago to win but i think the sharks are up to the challenge. nabakov/niemi is an interesting battle. a goalie with a history of coming up short, versus the young guy who just may be dumb enough to take his team to the finals.

san jose has the best line in the nhl thornton-marleau-heatley. i think chicago probably edges them with depth. both have outstanding defensive pairings.

both coaches are solid guys who will play chess matches on the ice but won't overkill it.

my prediction: blackhawks versus montreal, one that the old time hockey'ers will smile at.

I have Hawks-Flyers in the final.
I'm rolling with Chicago, never liked the Sharks and Chicago is an Original Six team, with good hockey fans. My fave jersey, too.
I like what Philly has done, very impressive and IMO they wil be able to physically beat up on Montreal. On the other hand, I predicted Caps over Habs, then Pittsburgh over Habs so who knows?
Should be some good hockey on both coasts.

I (and probably most long time NHL fans) would love to see a Montreal-Chicago final. That said, Philly looks like they can win any game they're in....and the Sharks can't choke forever, can they? If it comes down to goaltending, Halak is definitely the hottest of the 4.

I'm hoping for Philly against Montreal. I have a couple friends who are long-suffering Flyer fans, guys who weren't alive when they won Cups in '74-'75. I know lots of Habs fans who have seen them win a Cup, so screw 'em.

I'm really hoping that Montreal can pull through one more series. I've never been the Flyers' biggest fan, and now that they have Pronger, I feel even more strongly against them (Pronger is a dirtbag... too bad he's a really good hockey player). I just don't think they can win against the Flyers since they're playing against a more talented "underdog", as someone pointed out earlier. That's also even easier to say after they got smoked in game 1.

As for San Jose vs. Chicago... I say that series will be awesome for any hockey fan.

Philly fan being well...."Philly fan". Though I think something like this could happen in any city.

Watching San Jose/Hawks right now, 1-1 tie, pretty good hockey game. San Jose has controlled the 2nd period, the Thornton line has been really strong but Neimi looks really steady in net. Lots of San Jose powerplays this period.
I think Montreal needs to win again Saturday night to even that series. They can't keep playing with fire.

flyers and blackhawks for the cup

my girlfriend got a phone call from brent seabrook and a hammered anti niemi last night, one of the cops at her work knew the owner of the bar they all partied at and had her favorite blackhawk call, as well as a drunken goalie, awesome

A little early for a celebration, though.
I say Blackhawks in 6, they're ready. While I wouldn't put it past Philadelphia to win, they ran into a Montreal Canadiens team that was more worn-out than Philly. Chris Pronger is a beast of a defenceman, too.

i love the matchup all the way down until you get to the goaltenders.

what's funny is that you can argue that the 2 finalists are running a backup goalie and a 3rd/4th string goalie.

niemi has played all year though, he has split time with huet, and basically won the job over after the olympic break. i don't think huet has even played since the olympics.

leighton answered the bell, he shut out the canadiens in 3 games, but i think the hawks are a much different beast.

i think hawks in 5, but i hope it goes more. great matchup for the nhl. the nhl needs this.

love mike richards, great leader for that team. i just don't think they can match the overall depth, and niemi is hot right now.

I'm going with the Flyers... The Hawks remind me a lot of the Pens in the first series against the Wings. They're young and talented... I just see them falling short... The Flyers are playing lights out since the beginning of the playoffs. It's been up and down for Chicago throughout. Flyers are physical and I don't think there's been a better all-around player in the playoffs then Richards. Flyers in 7...

playing well since the start of the playoffs? yeah, except for digging themselves that 0-3 hole against boston?

as far as best player in the playoffs, toews has been just as good.

i think it's gonna be chicago's toughest matchup though, by far. nasvhille didn't have enough up front, they just have vancouver's number, the sharks felt like they won the cup after beating detroit and losing that "choker" tag. i think philly gives them all they have.

Should be an interesting Final to watch. I'm rooting for the Hawks (never really liked Philly). I think Montreal just ran out of gas in that series. The Flyers are not all that deep, so the the Hawks have a definite edge between the goal lines.

The wild cards are the goalies. Who knows how either of them will react to being in a Stanley Cup Final. It should be fun to watch if nothing else.
