Yea yea, I know, you guys who have no clue what it is like to have to care for a 50 year old 200 pound invalid, who cant walk, cant eat, cant use the bathroom or take care of themselves in any real meaningful way is like, yet you got an opinion that the mother should just deal with it.
And of course their isnt just the burden on the parents, the state, at least here in Pa has multiple helper type programs for those parents, so we also spend about 100Gs a piece on them, paying for transportation, day programs, group homes, in home respits and on and on.
You go on sticking to your high ground there though, wasting away your carefree time on message board with your "opinions" about what others should and shouldnt be allowed to do.

Quit caring for him or her if you really don't care.

God tests us all in different ways.

Your test may be caring for your sibling.

Oh and BTW, this doctor needs to get another job. He's clearly incompetent.

Dr. Mark Evans would probably disagree. Afterall, he is the guy that pioneered the procedure and admitted to the difficulty of the procedure. Next time you make a mistake regardless of how many good things you've done...look in the mirror and tell yourself you're incompetent at your job.

Oh please. He isn't a mechanic who forgot to put oil in the engine, he aborted the WRONG FETUS!

NRTU lampdog, but to everyone in this thread...

shut up. Right now -- seriously. Nobody is going to win this argument. The only one thing that will happen within this thread from this point on is that everybody will be offended by everyone else's opinion.

Nothing productive will be acheived within this thread, believe me. not tonight, not tomorrow, not next year. It wasn't the last time that abortion was discussed in this forum. And it won't be the next 300 times that it's discussed either.

Just STFU.

That is all.

RTU christy:

Why do you have a problem with this? If people wanna argue about abortion, they'll argue about it. Flip the channel and watch Sesame Street if you can't handle it.

*That last sentence looks harsher than how I intended. Sorry, I wasn't trying to insult you, but STFUs from a Steeler fan doesn't sit right.

GMAFB. If you don't like it, don't read it. Sheesh. Do you watch programs on TV that you don't like just to complain about them? Everyone knows that abortion is a passionate subject and the title of this thread should have told you that it would be discussed. If you clicked on it you have no one but yourself to blame if it got you riled up. I've got news for you, nothing productive comes from any thread on religion, politics, abortion or other touchy subjects...on this message board or any other. Anyway, I think it's pretty shallow to tell everyone to STFU because you don't like what's being discussed....especially if you have the choice to not click on it.

I think you guys took what she said the wrong way. I think she's simply saying it's a waste of time to have the abortion debate here given historical threads on the subject.

You may be right, but nobody likes to be told to STFU. I feel that anyone that enters a thread on a controversial topic knows what they're in for and does so of their own free will.

Assuming I'm part of "everybody" then I can tell you that I'm not offended by anybody elses opinion. I'm only offended when I'm told that there should be no forum in which to discuss opinions on topics that you will never "win" because it isn't a fact based argument and not all people are going to agree.

How do you know that people aren't being influenced by the discussion on these controversial topics? Without going into a depth of details, I can assure you that people are influenced, people do engage new ideas... just because there is no mass gotcha moment where one whole side of an argument throws down their weapons, surrenders, admits defeat and takes up the cause of the other side, does NOT mean that people are not influenced.

The voice of reason is the voice that brings logic and calm to a debate, the voice of reason is not the voice that tells other people to STFU because all sides can't agree on a controversial issue.

But oh great VOR.. what else should we not discuss because there is no absolute "right answer"? Gay rights? Gun Control? Taxes? Healthcare? War? QB controversies? How bad the Steelers suck? Seriously, I'd like to see your entire "This should be off limits because it will never get resolved" list of things to not talk about.

I did not argue the severity of his mistake. His mistake caused a horrible thing for the couple. The mistake itself doesn't make him incompetent as a doctor. Again, look in the mirror. A mechanic could put a part back together incorrectly, cause the car to be uncontrollable, and cause an accident. In the event lets say a family dies. It was the first and only mistake the mechanic made in his 15 years as a mechanic. Is he incompetent? No, he made a mistake that cost lives. It sucks, but it doesn't make him/her incompetent.

That's part of it. The other part was to offend everyone enough to distract them (even momentarily) away from the topic of the thread.

It worked. I win.

It didn't distract us from the pigben fiasco. What's your take on that?

Geez jfan, I didn't mean to make you so upset. It was just a little joke.

I actually like watching everybody argue. I know you and the others like to go hard, so get back to the arguing.

Why is it such a big deal? I mean ... it's not like it was a baby or something ..... it's just a fetus.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

The guy should not be presecuted nor persecuted. He made a mistake involving the abortion of a non-person. So he got the wrong non-person. Oooops. Sorry. Mistakes happen.

I would find it rather ironic though, if the potential parents said that he killed their baby .... when that's exactly what they instructed him to do .... just not the one he got.

Right here? In this very thread??

Can't we meet up somewhere else? Say...8:00 in the shack?

I'll make a new thread if you so desire. Or perhaps I can put it in an existing thread.

But only under one condition -- that everybody participating in the current thread promises to be other-oriented in their communication with each other from this point forward.

Not sure where or why you think I have a sibling with problems, I dont. My wife works with people with a variety of disabilities, I know all her clients, and some of their parents. I visit her fairly regularly, as do most spouses, one of their main goals is to help their clients integrate into society, so visitation is encouraged. And I can tell you no one their would ever feel they have any right to tell any other person what they should do when it comes down to making a choice about an abnormal baby.
