Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Ginn has been traded to the 49ers for a 2010 late-round draft pick. It's a fairly dramatic plunge for a guy who was the ninth overall pick in the 2007 draft.

I wonder how late of a pick.
Do we have a 6th this year?
If so I would have given it up for him.

Just pretend like he was drafted where he SHOULD have been drafted and it doesn't seem so dramatic.
The guy is a bust as a pro receiver. He's soft and drops the ball too much.
Good return man though.

Its not jsut giving up the 6th but also taking on the contract that comes along with a top 10 pick. Simply not worth the bucks.

I thought it was dumb for him to convert to WR, when he was considered the best high school DB in the nation. I think if anything and had the time I would bring him in only as a project in terms of him becoming what he really was a DB.
He's a bust as a WR and he's not all of a sudden going to get NFL caliber receiving hands the time is past, so his is no threat and pretty much garbage for an NFL WR, glad we passed, but do think he could be a hell of a corner back in this league.

Great trade for the 49ers. They really needed a returner, and to get a very good one with some potential at WR for only a 5th is a steal.

Yeah on the surface giving up a 5th for a guy with the talent of a Ginn seems like a good move, but then when you consider that you are paying him the contract of a top ten draft pick it doesnt seem to good. Miami was basically giving him away because he has not lived up to that huge of a cap space hit.

I bet they restructure it and front load it during the uncapped year...if not, I agree, that's a boat load of cash for a "5th Round Pick"

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/16/dolphins-get-fifth-round-pick-for-ted-ginn/Dolphins get fifth-round pick for Ted Ginn Posted by Gregg Rosenthal April 16, 2010 2:03 PM ET Santonio Holmes and Ted Ginn have taken different career paths since playing together at Ohio State, but they cost the same price this week. The Dolphins will receive San Francisco's fifth-round pick in exchange for Ginn, according to ESPN's Mike Sando. We think it's a fair deal for both sides, even if Ginn isn't half the player Holmes is. (This illustrates again how desperate the Steelers were to dump Holmes.) San Francisco doesn't need to draft a return specialist, and they added speed to a receiver corps that could use it. Josh Morgan, more of a physical wideout, is likely to keep his starting job across from Michael Crabtree, according to Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat. Ginn should compete with Brandon Jones and Jason Hill for the No. 3 receiver job, a role he's suited for. Ginn probably wouldn't be seen as a bust if he was evaluated properly coming out of college and simply just used that way from day one.

did you watch the Buckeyes when he was there? now, it may not have been the best for Ginn Jr's NFL career, but I am absolutely certain that Jim Tressel is glad he converted Ginn to WR.
I think if SF uses Ginn more like Minny uses Harvin instead of trying to make him the primary WR like Miami did, he will be fine.

Stallworth? ... Steptoe? ... Stuckey?... Hubbard?... Northcutt?...
He was worth more than a 5th, except for the contract probably.
Please! fix the offense Please! I want to see games that are watchable!
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Aren't Miami on the hook for the signing bonus? therefore its actually a very reasonable contract if all the 49ers take on is the yearly salary?
Looks like he signed a 5 year $19.6 million contract of which $14million was guaranteed. So if the 49ers only suffer the salary its a good deal imo

That is a great trade for the 49ers. They wouldnt have found a 5th rounder to contribute as much as Ginn will.
Even with the Browns need at WR, Im not so sure it would have been such a great deal for them though. They already have Cribbs, but everyone needs a backup and they already got Wallace to use as a speedster that can come into the offense on end arounds or as a decoy. Thats if they decide to use Wallace in that scenerio. One of the reasons Holmgren brought Frye to Seattle was because he wanted Frye to become the top backup so he could use Wallace in plays like that as a WR. The Browns didnt re-sign Furrey so its possible Ginn could have been a 3rd or 4th string WR and a possible DB like Furrey did in Cleveland. I dont think Ginn is as tough as Furrey though.
Great trade for them but since the return game isnt a need for the Browns and Ginns hands are suspect, i would rather the browns use their 5th rounder on a player like Church a safety from Toledo or on a QB like the one from Oklahoma St. (If they dont get McCoy in the 2nd, or a Lefevour or Tebow in the late 3rd. For the record, I dont want Tebow)

guaranteed does not equal signing bonus.....
It depends how much of that guaranteed has already been paid out by the dolphins, the 49ers are on the hook for the rest.

Guaranteed typically means signing bonus plus first year salary. Almost all of that guaranteed money has been paid, if not all of it.

What???????????
Show me the ENTIRE contract Deep...I'm tired of diggin' this crap up for u guys over the years...That's BS...Don't spew it and confuse people...
20M...14 guaranteed...How damn big u think that kinda SB was???...Look at those BASES...SB & 1st Year Base only says a SMALL part of it...Those combined ARE NOT typically the entire guarantee...
There's more than 1 GUARANTEED RB in there chief...
Go Browns!!!

here's the contract that's left 7/27/2007: Signed a five-year, $19.6 million contract. The deal includes $14 million guaranteed. 2009: $677,917, 2010: $1,035,833, 2011: $1,393,750, 2012: $1,801,667 (Voidable Year), 2013: Free Agent http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=NfL&id=4168I see no mention of roster bonuses left and the 2012 year is the only salary that seems like a complete overpay for what he can do.

That's correct...14M of 20M total wasn't paid the 1st year in SB and Base...That's stupid...

As others have said, that's not at all true.....
The salaries doesn't mean much, that just tells you how the $5m is distributed...a lot of the money is in bonuses that get paid out over the length of the contract, some are guaranteed, some are not

or just a mistake
Alot of rookie contracts tend to be cheaper towards the end of their original contract. That might be the point he was trying to make. Like when Savage traded away Faine who was only due $600,000 in the final year of his contract. Not a bad price for a backup center you know could get the job done even though they went in another direction.

agree a 1000% I would give a 5th rounder for a fast, talented DB project and at one time was the top DB coming out of H.S.
Ruining QB's since 1999.
