The more I think about it, the more I want to take WVU QB Brown later in the draft rather than McCoy. McCoy scares me with his arm, fragility and inability to read a defense.
you had a good run Hank.

What evidence are you going off of that Skelton is a good QB. I go to school right near Fordham, I live near NYC, his name never comes up in the news.
The only good thing athletically to ever come out of that school is Vince Lombardi I think. Fordham football is a joke, and they don't even play MAC quality teams. You're expecting a lot out of this Skelton.
As for Lefevour, do you ever watch him play? He's not exactly accurate, has a noodle arm, and makes plays on his feet. He screams Charlie Frye/Gradkowski to me.
Lefevour doesn't have an NFL arm. Skelton plays for Fordham University and gets no publicity at all. At least I had heard of the Balt QB when he played in college. While his name slips my mind, the Balt QB transfered to UDeleware from a big D1 school and really got some publlicity while playing for that team during the season. Skelton goes to school right near me and i've never heard anything about him except things on these draft websites (which i put little belief in as they could be someone, just like you or me writing BS profiles and articles).

I wouldn't mind LeFevour at all, but I would prefer Tony Pike. I just don't think Pike will be there when we're selecting our 2nd pick in the 3rd round and we'll take LeFevour instead.

Tony Pike doesn't really impress me at all either. He seems like a product of the Cinci Offense. Watching him throw in drills and stuff, I don't think he has an NFL arm or ability either. Being an NFL QB is not easy. He got injured, and his backup came in and did just fine for the Bearcats.
I would say I'd be fine with McCoy in the 2nd. or even late first if we trade up because Heckert thinks he's worth it. He's an accurate passer, although someone made a poiint about not reading NFL defenses. I never thought about it, but it is a point. There were some games where he just seemed to be shut down. I'm not sure if this is because of the Texas offense (which is often a lot of short screen/slant routes and then catch them off guard with the deep ball occassionally) which teams shut down or if McCoy does have trouble figuring out defenses. But the guy's played for like 3 or 4 years straight on one of the biggest stages in the country (UTex Football), has plenty of experience, is definitely a winner, has a good background, is athletic, better arm than most of the guys we've mentioned (Pike, Lefevour)
Otherwise, I like Zac Robinson out of OkState, but that's not a paticularly popular choice. Although I think we can have him pretty late. He had a bad season this year, but his offense lost Dez Bryant and had some other issues if i remember correctly.
I dont really know enough about the other QBs to make a decision and would otherwise trust Heckert/Holmgren's judgement. May be Snead as a later pick, he's a guy with a lot of talent who will probably fall after having a dissapointing season.
Another option is Tebow, but that's tricky because he's a different type of prospect. I will take the easy way out and not discuss him besides saying, I prefer McCoy

I really don't want Tony Pike.. as soon as Haloti Ngata gets a good hit on him... his career is done.. Too frail for my taste.

Spot on until the reading defense thing. He is a wiz in that department. I can't relly dubunk his arm strength or durability, but he sure as heck can read defenses. I like McCoy in the 2nd......or Lefevour in the 3rd. The rest I don't care for. I would be on board with Tebow, but the SECSPN hype has taken him into a round that I just can't see us using on him (1st).

Matt Lienart too....that list is long! I was just saying that there are a number of justafiable reasons to knock Colt....Reading D's is not one of them. Not even trying to be a homer here, there are 3 QB's I would take in this draft....Colt, Lefevour and Tebow, all have thier spot which ever ones falls to a good value I would take them. Now Earl Thomas on the other hand I will homer him some. I think he is every bit the saftey and more versitle than Eric Berry, but that is another thread all together.

I think McCoy is the best choice just because I wouldn't want to draft a QB so early in the draft. I think McCoy will net us the best value for where I'd like us to pick a QB. Just my (relatively) uninformed opinion.
Everyone reading this thread should watch Jon Gruden's QB Camp (I think that's what it's called). It was on TV (I missed it) but clips are on youtube. It's good stuff and really shows how football-smart alot of these guys are. Gruden doesn't pull any punches, which makes it informative to watch.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

The problem with McCoy is the same problem I have with tebow the hype machine has taken off. I thought McCoy would be a steal at the top of the 3rd.....then I thought I guess we can trade back into the second to get him......and now it seems we will have to use our top 2nd (or possibly move up to get him). That is just too high I think. I don't know if the value is there, there will be so many good players on the board when we draft in the second. But what do I know....thats just my opinion.

That all depends on how you view it.
At this time last year we were talking about how McCoy would be coming out in this draft. Of what a great QB he will be. A lot of people were drooling about it.
But somehow, over the course of a year, the media has blown up both Claussen and Bradford. It certainly wasn't poor play by McCoy that caused it.
So the difference I have that may differ to many others, is that I believe McCoy is every bit as good of a QB as he was taughted last year. Only now he has yet one more year of experience and has shown that through all four years he's been consistantly accurate, a consistant winner and still a very good team leader. He threw for over 70% this year, has averaged over 70% through the four years he started, and has done nothing that should have effected his draft status from last year.
So to me, I see him as a steel as early as late first/early second. Can you name anything in his performance or skill set that should have him "dervalued" him from last year to this year?

Because he looks like Doogie Howser? I don't know. You're the board expert on him. I read in a lot of places that his arm strength is questionable. He threw a crapton of short, short passes. He's a little small. I'm pretty sure that sums up the digs on him besides all the Aggie fans calling him "Cart" which, while funny, you do a pretty good job arguing against. Quote:

I thought Bradford's stock went down a bit this year. Clausen has been pretty danm good in college no matter how wierd he acts or how ugly he is.
You like McCoy better than these two guys? Nothing wrong with that, he could end up better easily, it's pretty hard to say for sure. One thing is certain, Holmgren and McCoy have been talking about each other a bunch lately. Just posturing? We will find out soon.
Don't know if that answers your question. You weren't asking me anyways.
I can't wait for the weekend to be over so we can all argue over weather it was a good draft or not.
BTW spelling police might be knocking on your door for that one, Pit. Gruesome.

The St. Louis Rams remain open to trading out of the top overall pick and have been fielding exploratory calls from NFL teams to gauge the cost of moving up to draft University of Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.
Although the Rams are definitely willing to listen, a trade is regarded as unlikely to happen.
The Rams remain sold on Bradford from a medical, ability and character standpoint and are prepared to pick him.
We're told that some NFL teams have reservations about Bradford medically, but it's not about his surgically repaired shoulder.
Instead, they have some concerns about his knee.
It's not expected to affect his draft stock dramatically, but it is an issue that has been raised by NFL team doctors.
National Football Post
Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. If he had issues with his knee we would have heard about it a long time ago. To me it looks like someone is leaking bad info hoping Bradford will fall because of it.

My dark horse favorite...Max Hall from BYU. Not the most physically gifted but a big game performer.
Plus he won't get into any trouble with guns, liquor or women as he's LDS.

I love the kid too....I just think that he has shown to be a little fragile. His redshirt soph year he had some stinger issues and what happened this year is well documented, I just worry a little about his frame and size.
His arm does not worry me at all, he does not have a DA arm, but he can make all the throws and is accurate as a pin. I mean I have watched practices and he does not work on completing passes.....he works on putting the ball on the correct shoulder and putting it where his receivers can catch and run, he really is perfect for the WCO. I just think his size and frame are a question mark and I always thought he was a high 3rd guy and maybe a low second.
On the bright side he has never been banged on a pass play, he was hurt as a soph on a sneak, and this year on an option. He is scary smart and knows how to avoid contact in the pocket.
I still say any of Colt, Lefevour, or Tebow would be fine with me as a young QB.

Colt Mccoy's shoulder is not even in the top ten of concerns.
Now his concussion problem, OTOH...yeah, major problem.

if it was contagious, then I would definitely draft him. imagine a team that can't drink, gamble or screw around. they would have nothing to do but football.
