I guess this probably means Brown goes to safety

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Loved the pick, was my choice after Berry who was gone already. Bring on the defense!

I would have much prefered Safety. We now have Sheldon Brown, Eric Wright and Haden. I guess it'll be a rotational thing.

Not surprised we didn't take Clausen but there's about 3 players I might have felt better about.

That said, Welcome Joe, be the man!

I expect this year to have Wright and Brown start at corner with Haden at the nickle until he has some experience at the NFL speed under his belt and then we'll move brown to Safety.

I guess so. I expect my early 1st round pick to be an immediate impact starter though. Maybe Sheldon moves to Safety this year? I doubt it though.

Brown can be moved to FS.

I don't hate it but I am not in love with it. It depends on how he pans out. If he becomes an NFL shutdown corner, it'll be a great pick.

Could definitely happen. If he's that good he may not need the time to adjust but most young corners do make mistakes at first so it depends on if they are willing to live with them being made against a #1 or #2 receiver or against a slot receiver.

Welcome to Cleveland Haden.. You still get to wear a little orange.

Our corner depth is perfect right now.

Is this going to be deja vu? Notre Dame QB free falls in the first round and the Cleveland Browns trade up to get him. Sound familiar?

Could have traded down? That is assuming someone wanted to trade up? The phone may not have been ringing . . .

Would have loved to have Berry but I like the pick none the less.

I'm hoping we draft Allen the safety with our next pick, that would do wonders for our defense imo.

We will draft another CB/S at some point in the draft for depth/development, but Haden/Wright will be the CBs, and Brown/Elam wll be the safeties. We aren't drafting another starting caliber safety early.

I would have taken Thomas too.

I think that Haden is a talented kid though. I just hope that we find an enforcer for the Safety position later in the draft.

Unfortunately, the Seahawks didn't cooperate.

Exactly my opinion as well. Yes it was a bit of a reach, but it's a player who fits. We still have a bunch of picks (didn't trade the draft for Bradford) and this was a need. It helps in the d-back rotation all around. Plus the guy is a run stopper, not Deon. His speed was much better at his pro day than the combine.

A little reach, we pay a little too much (in an uncapped year) but at least we didn't take someone we don't need or who doesn't fit just because they had a higher rating.

trading down is always a nice option, but you need to find someone willing to deal with. If no one wanted to trade, hard to knock us for it.

Haden is not a reach, and was rated by everyone as a top 10 pick. This move accompanied with Brown moving to FS gives us a much better secondary

I personally don't like this pick...Haden is over-rated..he doesn't have elite speed...

im a bit upset...Spiller has Thurman Thomas written all over him...he was clearly BPA at that point...

it took the Bills all but 15 seconds to punch his card...they are laughing at us...

Spiller will be prolific..

figures..Tomlinson falls in our lap and we pass on him, and now we pass on Spiller..typical Browns to pass on a franchise RB that falls in their lap...

this makes me not even want to look forward to this coming season....we haven't had a bonafide RB since Earnest Byner...Jamal Lewis was on his last leg..he limped here from Baltimore..Droughs? please......

don't even tell me Davis, Harrison, or Hillis are franchise RB material...please....they are nothing more then a ham salad sammich....

i can't believe we passed on a franchise RB....unbelievable...

welcome to Cleveland Joe...good luck...

Spiller a franchise RB? GMAB, he's good, but not an elite back.

He is an elite back...people said the same things about Peterson

Spiller may be even better...the guy had over 20 TD on plays of 50 yards or more

the guy is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball

and as the guys on NFL network said:

"Spiller DOES NOT need perfect blocking or an elite Offensive Line to break away"

that guy could have made a major difference for us for years...a major difference as in 1600 to 1800 yards rushing and 300 to 500 yards receiving...think Marshall Faulk...

the kid has the record for the most All Purpose yards in the nation for college...

Maybe, maybe not. But I can't see taking a RB that high, especially when a very good DB is there and feels a need.

But even with the elite status of Adrian Peterson, he doesn't make the team. He makes it easier for Favre and the receivers. The days of a franchise running back are pretty much done.

Thurmon Thomas? How did you come up with that comparison? They both play/played for the Bills? I don't see it.

Let's use this thread to talk about Haden.

Welcome to Cleveland Joe Haden. I'm very happy that this is our pick. We couldn't get Eric Berry, this is my next guy in line I wanted. Only other player I considered (besides QB which is a subjective position) is Trent Williams.

But Haden is great. Premium position, he can play for us for a long time. No character issues, young guy, lots of talent. Only thing that sucks is that I think he's from Baltimore. I can definitely get over that.

People complain that CB isn't the same need it was before because we have Brown, but we can experiment with Brown at FS or else we can have three good corners, which sounds great to me.

As I said in the chatroom, here's to no more Mike Adams or Brandon McDonald covering top receivers! Now we hopefully won't get killed by the underneath passing game

Welcome Joe, I'm very happy

I don't believe that....there haven't been any "franchise Rb" to come out of the draft recently...

Tomlinson and Peterson are the last 2 frnachise backs to come out since what 2001?

Franchise Rb are hard to come by, but if you get one...it changes the whole team

Franchise Rb can play "all 3 downs" Spiller could do that...he can block, he is a threat to catch the ball, and he can run inside or out

so on 3rd and 2 will it be a run to spiller? a play action? a pass in the flats to Spiller? a pass to the Te, wr? see where im going

the problem with "running back by commitee" is you "telegraph" your plays...big guy comes in you run, small guy comes in you pass

with a Franchise back...you no longer telegrapgh...the guy can catch and run..is good at running, blocking, and catching...suddenlly..D-coordinators jobs get much harder to predict the plays...

thats why a franchise Rb is so important...that is why the Bills pounced on him so quickly...

he will make the Qb, their whole team look better then they are...
