Drew Drees is 6'0 according to NFL.com.. I am just trying to make sense of these height comparisons with successful quarterbacks that would be considered somewhat short by NFL standards...

All the comparisons between McCoy and Brees and Montana etc.. maybe they'll make sense in a couple of years if McCoy proves worthy.. Until then, they are numbers on a page..

IMO a QB having to be 6'4'' is a myth. Sure it helps them see down the field, but it is not a prerequisite to be good. McCoy is 6'1'', but he is 216. That is not a little guy. Many act as if the guy weighs 185 lbs.
If a QB has it, being 6 foot tall will not hurt them. I think being a tall QB is overrated. It has it's advantages, but doesn't improve the player if you ask me.

True, but I think the point is that while everyone considers the "much" taller 6' 3" - 6' 5" frame to be "ideal", there is PLENTY of precedent - both recent and historical - for 6'-ish QB's to have a high level of success in this league.
You have the likes of Montana, Brees, Garcia, Flutie (5' 9"!!), Favre (at only 6' 2", 222), Namath, Tarkenton, etc...
Browns is the Browns

absolutly Purp,, and that's why I believe that trying to predict what A QB is going to be like in the league based on his height is like judging a book by it's cover..
Too damn many varibles.. way to many variables....

I don't see 6'1 being a problem for McCoy.. Especially with the rules implemented in recent years to protect QB's, they don't need to be built to absorb as much damage. And I am glad that's the case because I see a rough blindside hit to a vunerable QB in a similar fashion to a blindside hit in hockey. Use enough force to take the man down. Concussions are not enjoyable, especially long term!
Anywho, 6'1, 216 is not a small man & as long as McCoy is physically capable of playing at the NFL level, I don't think his height is going to impede his maturation.

Quinn will be a fine QB, but for Denver because of the dolt we now have as a head coach. the best thing McCoy has going is Mangini will be the Former coach after this year.

I think that you have it backwards .....
Quinn is a bust at QB, will be both an Ex-Brown and Ex-Bronco by next year (and possibly 3rd string this year ..... if he remains a Bronco) .... and Mangini will be Browns Head Coach for many years to come.

They sure gave Quinn a vote of confidence with the draft. Drafting a first round high profile player like Tebow is not something you do when you're convinced you have your QB already on the roster. I wonder what they were thinking?

They traded up to get him, too. Four picks, I think. Huge vote of confidence there. Not only did they think they needed to draft a QB, but they traded half their draft to do so.

Joe,, you haven't been paying much attention have you.. not that this is for sure., but it's interesting isn't it... Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Josina Anderson of FOX 31 Denver reports that the Jaguars have interest in Brady Quinn and an unnamed pass rusher on the Broncos' roster.
The pass rusher, specifically a "DE/OLB," could be former first-round pick Jarvis Moss, who's been a bust in Denver and is likely available for cheap. Jags coach Jack Del Rio has been a fan of Quinn dating back to the 2007 draft, when he allegedly wanted to select the Notre Dame quarterback before the Jags took FS Reggie Nelson. According to Anderson, Nelson is available for trade. The Broncos' level of interest in him is unknown, but they're probably willing to part with Quinn after selecting Tim Tebow in the first round.

Don't know that I'd call him a bust until I see what he does in Denver. And at this point I don't see how anyone can say that Mangini will be the HC here for many years to come. Hell, he starts 0-5 or 1-4 and he won't last the year, IMO.
Time will tell on both scenarios.

He isn't a career bust,,, his career isn't over yet, so people can't say that.
He was a bust here in Cleveland and I'll admit there was more than one thing that contributed to his lack of success.
He isn't a bust in Denver.. he hasn't played yet... If Orton beats him out, you still can't say he's a bust... but you can say he wasn't thought to be as good as Orton.. If Tebow beats him out,, for the #2 spot,, I think it's very safe to say,, McDaniels would be thinking, he's not going to cut it.
If he does get traded,,, then I don't know what to believe yet..
That's just my opinion..

I'd kind of like to see him traded. He's not in a very good place at Denver now. If he's ever going to be able to produce he needs to be somewhere where they REALLY NEED him and will be able to stick with him for a full season. I don't know where that might be.

I wonder how our compensation from Denver would be affected by a trade.
as in: is it worded that he needs to start X number of games "for Denver" or take X % of snaps "for Denver"
or is it just for whatever team he is on?

If McCoy gets 4 games, it doesn't matter what he does because the rest of everything will have gone to hell in order for him to see the field.

That's exactly the way I see it as well.
The coaches and FO will know where McCoy is at, not us. I believe based upon that will determine wheather we draft a QB early next year or not.

I'm not sure I'd say "wow" but I would change it somewhat.
He was a bust here considering the investment paid and where he was picked verses the reward we got from his play.
Denver gave up very little to get him. So if he does anything at all to contribute in Denver, he was worth what they paid.
Career wise, he's still very young. So in that respect I think you could qualify him as a bust to this point. As was said, IF he can beat out Orton and start, how he does could be the determing factor when you speak of someone's "career".
But I don't see the odds being in his favor.

Dude, as the world's biggest DA lover I think your right to make fun of anyone else's QB comments is null and void.
Frankly, as far as the Browns are concerned both guys that are no longer here would probably be considered a bust.
But considering that, combined, I don't think we paid those two more than $10 million for their services I don't think they're worrying about it in Berea. So we probably shouldn't either.

I agree that you firmly believe that but Quinn is a bust after 12 games. While you are ready to play make believe that a 35yo broke down nag who has tossed 24 ints in his last 12 games and only the same number of TDs will be fine. Quinn will outgun Jake hands downs. Mangini will be T O A S T.

The difference between JD and BQ is that JD has at least PROVEN he get's it and knows how to compete in the NFL. After 12 starts for BQ he still plays like a rookie taking his first snap ,....probably worse.

All I'm concerned with at this point is that the team comes together in the Holmgren era, and we start seeing a winning team on the field.
I don't care if it's Delhome, Wallace, McCoy or someone not even on the radar right now at QB. All that matters is that this team gets back on track and becomes a competitor week in and week out. At which time, no one will care if Couch, Quinn, Anderson, Garcia, Dilfer, etc, etc, etc, had a fair shot here.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Here's an interview I read with Josh Cribbs, I thought this was interesting and a pretty honest answer... Quote:
I have to ask, do you think that Brady Quinn got a fair shot at being this franchises quarterback?
Like I said before, in this league you have to perform when you get that chance. If that means in a game, great. If you aren't getting into games, you have to make your mark in practice. Make the coaches put you in the game. So if you think about it in that sense, yeah Brady Quinn got his shot to be the Browns QB.

Joe is just mad that everything he thinks is going to happen with the Browns, ends up being the opposite....Quinn to be a star and Mangini to get canned turns in to Mangini being a star and Quinn getting canned.

Quinn may have gotten "canned" (although that could still come back to bite us in the ass) but I think I'll wait until at least game 8 to declare Mangini a "star".
This could be the most interesting season since the return in '99. For many reasons.

Cribbs really and truly says exactly what's on his mind. But he does it in a kinder, gentler fashion than some would want..
He said in essence: Yeah, Quinn got a fair shot... But he didn't say it in a way that belittles his former teammate.. Cribbs is a stand up guy.. A real class act... thumbsup:
