Quote: Jaguars bid farewell to John Henderson Posted by Michael David Smith on April 26, 2010 8:15 AM ET John Henderson is about to leave the only team he's ever played for.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Jacksonville will release Henderson today.
The Jaguars had been shopping Henderson in a trade, and Schefter reports that the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants had expressed some interest. But now he'll become an unrestricted free agent.
The Jaguars used their top two draft picks on defensive tackles, which made it clear that they wanted to get younger at the position. Henderson had two years and $11 million left on his contract.
The 31-year-old Henderson was drafted by the Jaguars in 2002 and has been a starter on their defensive line ever since. He has missed only four games in eight seasons, but now he'll have to find a new trainer to slap him in the face every Sunday.

I'd take him after he's lost a step like he has considering how good he was originally, his dropped off play is still better than a lot of the lineman in the league. And that has to also be the most intense player I've ever seen, I would love to have that and have it rub off. Hopefully we're at least making an attempt to get him.
It would sure be nice to be the team that nobody wants to play instead of having teams looking forward to having us on the schedule. Guys like big John Henderson would go a long way to making that happen.

It was reported on NFL Live that the Browns and another Team were interested in him before he was Released (Before the Draft), but that was all they mentioned.
He'd be a great pick up and could add tremendous depth for us.
If he has only lost a step. Often once a player losses that step the next 2, 3, 4 ... 10 steps follow quickly. One of the reason there are so many FA busts. Big names signed to big contracts because they "only" lost that one step when in reality it is much more than one step lost.
Not necessarily saying that is the case with Henderson. I haven't followed his career or the Jags. Just expressing a general sentiment.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no
he would be more of a Coleman type DE for us anyway. More focused on run-stuffing than getting to the QB.
in that sense, and with our concerns for our DL depth right now, I think he would be a solid add (at the right price of course).
however, will he choose us? not only from a perspective of us not being a contending team quite yet as he enters his twilight, but also from the perspective that he would be switching from a 4-3 DT to a 3-4 DE. He might not want to do it.
we'll see how much pull 'The Stache' has with convincing FA's to consider us I suppose.
i know there is no way i would ever sign up to be "the slapper"
i just couldn't pull myself to repeatedly hit a man that is that big and scary as he continues to get amped up and angry. i'd rather be safely in my seat or watching it from afar.
Browns | Have expressed interest in John Henderson

The Cleveland Browns have expressed interest in Jacksonville Jaguars DL John Henderson, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. Henderson will be released Monday, April 26, according to a source close to the situation.
That is true, but he was never exactly fast to begin with
He's only 31, which for a defensive lineman isn't really that old. Shaun Rogers is about to turn 30 or 31 himself and he's still a monster. He isn't going to be a long term solution but having him around would go a long way to bringing along the culture of toughness that we seem to be aiming to do now. If he has the desire to play end in a 3-4 and Lerner doesn't mind showing him the money in an uncapped year then he would be an awesome short term addition.

Let Rogers do it. As long as nobody gets killed it could turn into an interesting locker room ritual.

Or Geathers. After all, he has a 38 inch wingspan ......

Quote: According to NFL.com's Jason LaCanfora, free agent DL John Henderson does not have a visit lined up with the Chiefs on Wednesday.
The Chiefs have a definite need at nose tackle, but Henderson would be more suited to end in a 3-4 scheme. He's expected to visit with the Giants later this week, and the Falcons and Browns have also shown interest.
If he isn't better than one of our starting ends I'd be surprised. To me he has got to be the #1 FA target right now. Dline just can't continue to be that thin.
