I thought Holmgren said he wasn't going to be involved with the coaching aspect of the team? All of a sudden, the FIRST day, he's on the field in shorts amongst the players. Haha...great stuff.

saw a rookie camp film clip of McCoy on the NFL network.
Holmgren was watching in the background.
MH wil be more involved than he claimed previously.He just can't stay away from the field.

If anyone really thought that Holmgren wasn't going to have a say in some aspect in coaching, they were quite naive. And why would Mangini waste an opportunity to use him as well?
Of course he's going to be out there, he's been a coach his whole life and will continue to be a coach until he dies.

We've taken him at his word that he's not coaching.
I've been to camp a couple dozen times over the years,, and more than once I've seen Randy Lerner (once saw Al Lerner) out on the field talking to various folks,,,
Holmgren walking around doesn't actually mean anything but because it's him, the natural assumption is, he'll have a bunch to do with coaching the team.....(or at least the QB's)
and as you say,, Mangini should make use of his skills.. if he doesn't, he's a fool..

Who is Paris, he was catching balls at the end of the video. He was wearing number 23. I can't find him on a roster anywhere.

As for Holmgren, if I'm Mangini I want him out there so I can bounce ideas off of him and have him oversee the offensive coaching staff.
p.s. Daman's totally right about Mangini's demeanor. You couldn't fit a fiber optic up his ass last year he was wound so tight. It's like Holmgren sat him down and told him "You're a very, very bright coach, but trust me there's not just one way to coach and I have the rings to prove it."

The guys still a very young coach. Just think he's learned under Billy B and now Holmgren. That's gonna be quite a pedigree! If he's smart he's absorbing as much from Holmgren as he's trying to teach his players. In short, there's a possibility that Mangini could become a great coach!
And yes MH will have his hands all over McCoy. This organization can't afford another giant QB failure and MH and EM know that very well.

Holmgren being on the field doesn't mean he's coaching. I'm sure he is adding input to meetings after practice, but he is the face of the organization and knows it. I like that he wants to be out there encouraging the young players and the coaches as well. He has a lot invested in this team, and I'm sure if it were any of us, we would be out there too. He's been a coach for years, and old habits like being on the practice field are going to be hard to break. I doubt he is there to keep an eye on Mangini as some seem to suggest, but more to just be a part of the happenings and showing his dedication to the team.
One thing I noticed, is that Haden looks very quick. I also love the way McCoy releases the ball, quick with no wind up. To me he has a pro release, that should benefit him well. Would have loved to seen Ward, but sure I will in time.

Holmgren looked like he was enjoying himself.
I always thought Holmgren would do what Holmgren wanted to do. I didn't see a whistle around his neck but that wouldn't surprise me either.

Holmgren looks really good in brown and orange. So do Haden, Hardesty, and McCoy from what I could see today.

Allow yourself to dream...it's OK. No harm in picturing an accurate McCoy pass to Hardesty coming out of the backfield for first down and goal. We've all been living a nightmare the last 7 months with DA and Quinn at the helm throwing brick and after brick to the feet of who knows who.

I don't expect Holmgren out there running drills or anything.
I do expect him to hover around QB's, giving advice to the QB's and being a big part of their game off the field, though. Same thing with Daboll and Haskell.

I see no big deal in Holmgren being out there. If it were me, I'd want to get a personal look at the players brought in by the people I untrusted to help me rebuild the team.
Actually I'd be surprised if he wasn't out there.

You might have thought that was rather strange. But IMO, you have to encourage and enforce young talent that you believe in them and are there for them. Like they're family so to speak to increase the odds of their success.
I would venture to guess that he's had some pretty friendly and similar interraction with all the rookies. We just didn't see film of it.

Holmgren set up the front office to run without him. When he got the guy from Miami.. I knew MH is just waiting.
Why wouldn't he?? He is a amazing coach and teacher - plus he is a guy I dont think would have ever came here as just a coach. Now that he is here, lets see if Mangini can do something in the first half of next season, because if he doesn't.. Gruden or Homgren is going to be the coach.
I think Mistake #1 for Mangini was in Practice #2, when he reversed what Holmgren has been saying since the draft has been over... McCoy "might" play.

Not really a mistake. He is the head coach. Holmgren said that and kind of left it open by saying I don't think so but it is Erics call. I agree he didn't need to say it, but why would a coach come out and actively rule out any player he has for the season? If Colt is the best QB on the roster, maybe he will play. I think he should sit and let Jake start, but ultimately it is EM's call and no one else.

Couldn't agree less with you Drunk.. I don't believe for even one second that Holmgren will fire mangini in the middle of the season, no matter how poorly the team is playing.. Won't happen.. Holmgren isn't classless. As for Gruden, he's got a cushy job on TV.. I'm not sure you will ever see him on the sidelines again...anywhere. And here is an important thing to remember (and I'm not going to look it up for you) But, Holmgren himself softened up on his stance about McCoy not playing by making the statement that it's ultimately Manginis call. Basically, except for the part of your post where you compliment Holmgrem, I think you are off base... but hey, that's just my opinion.....

I'm pretty sure that's Robbie Parris from Notre Dame & Saint Ignatius....one of Cleveland's own
Watching the videos, you can see when Ward and Haden were playing together that Ward has a much bigger upper body. Although it was only one clip, I liked the interception drill where Ward went up and snatched the ball...receiving skills looked really natural

Waiting? On what? MH could have fired Gini on the spot and either hired someone or named himself as interrum coach any time he wanted to.

And where did you acquire this information from? So you think a real "football guy" like MH is going to upset the apple cart mid-season by firing his HC that way?
If there is any merrit to what is nothing more than pure speculation by you, then he's setting Gini up to fail. Between last year and this year there will have been a HUGE turnover in our roster. I believe anyone with a common grasp of the game understands that it will take time for this motor to click on all cylinders.
So at that juncture your speculation leads to MH setting Gini up to be the fall guy.

He didn't say "might". Nothing of the sort. He said it can't be ruled out. And it can't. Give MH this scenario and see what he says.

We don't know if MH ever talked to Gruden, but it appears from the candidates out there, he chose to stick with Gini.
