I just don't get the Chucky fascination.
I can only speak for myself here. The only real reason I ever bring it up is because he and MH communicate a lot from everything I've read.
That and the fact as was mentioned, if you build a good team for him he can win with it.
So the combination of those two factors seem to me to be one of the logical ways that MH might move forward with the HC position should Gini fail.
In all honesty, with MH working with Gini, I think we have a bright future as is. And I feel if MH didn't believe that himself, Gini wouldn't be here now.

I don't blame those guys for getting out on the field and spending some football time. Doesn't mean they're plotting some kind of takeover, it just means football is still in their blood.

My point was, which I didn't expound upon, is that with MH and TH being here, they would be doing the draft and have control over personnel acquisitions. All Chucky would be is our HC.
Thus they would be the one's to actually be building the team, not Chucky.

In our case, we wouldn't be "handing over" the reigns to Chucky, which is pretty much what they did at Tampa Bay and thus the "screw up".
I'm not advocating the guy. What I'm saying is when he gets to make the call in regards to who a team acquires and pretty much has most of the say in regards to who is drafted and signed, that's when the ship sinks.
Point being, if MH and TH are here, that wouldn't be the case.
At least that's the way MH might see it.

While one cannot ASSUME anything that Holmgren out on the field means something. which i agree and i will add one cannot assume the opposite. Holmgren will NOT sit tight for that crap we called offensive coaching and gameplan last year. Holmgren walking around talking to players means much more than Lerner, who has no expertise, doing the same. I think Mangini is on REAL THIN ICE and his little Caesar rouine with the players will not fly this year. Mike already told the king of queens that mcCoy was [His} guy, and I am not Referring to Mangini.

I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that Holmgren was out on the field with the players.
I would be out on the field too, if I were the president of the Browns and these guys represent my 1st draft in that roll. The guys that where on the field represent the future of the organization he runs. What is it that he could have done that would be more important? In fact if you go around the league I bet there wasn’t a team president or GM that wasn’t at rookie camp.
As a long time coach/ teacher/ delegator Mike will respect Mangini’s wishes as far as his involvement in the team goes. I have to believe that Mike asked EM if it was Ok for him to put on some shorts and come out onto the field. MH knows where the line is between being helpful and trusting the coaching staff to do their jobs and interfering with what the coaches are trying to do. Mike has never been a micro manager and I don’t think he will start now.
The thing people need to get over is that yes Mike is the team president and he does in fact have final say so, but he knows from having been a coach the pit falls of interference, and he also knows how important it is to support and give a coach what he needs to do the job and to get out of his way and let him do it.
This is EM team on the field 100%, EM will decide who what when, when it comes to this football team. I would think that EM being a smart guy, would tap into MH whenever and where ever he can, but ultimately he is the boss on the field. I don’t think MH ever told EM my way or the highway, he simply asked what EM was trying to do, and why? The 2 fit together like a glove and so EM was brought back.
But he wasn’t brought back to tow MH line he was brought back to continue to build off the positive aspects of what was started here last season. Now some will argue that there were no positives, but I don’t agree and it would appear that neither does MH.
Thinking this team is being run on the field by MH is a mistake this is all EM, all the time. MH is here to do exactly what he said he was here to do help the coach be successful on Sunday, period. If that means helping develop CM it will be done with EM blessing, and lets face it EM would be foolish not to use MH as a resource to help in this area and in other areas of the team as well. But MH is not micro managing this team, and won’t. This is EM show all the way come TC and season.

BTTB,, Yeah, most of us on here have agreed that him being out on the field represents nothing more than his need to keep his finger on the pulse of the team.

There is no doubt though why he is there....he's watching... MH isn't foolish enough to undermine his own coaching staff...we already know that EM was thrilled to have a guy like MH to talk to about qb's. I see this as more of an overseer type of role.....MH is gonna be there...watching practice....both the coaches and the players..... then later in private meetings with the coaches he'll offer his opinion....he'll have a huge amount of input into the qb's, cause thats his thing....but it will be in the form of opinion, and suggestions....to the coaches.... they in turn will incorporate those thoughts and opinions into how they coach the players.....but it's still the coaches that are coaching.... MH is a sounding board....a wealth of knowledge to be tapped...a resource to use so to speak...he's 'google' for coaches
Attitude is everything....FEAR THE ELF!!!

saw a rookie camp film clip of McCoy on the NFL network. Holmgren was watching in the background.
MH wil be more involved than he claimed previously. He just can't stay away from the field.
Lemmie ask everyone one simple question for thought..did U all think MH after claiming this mess of a franchise and how it's been handled was going to sit in the background like a big freaking sunset and not make sure the product being assembled was not going to be handled the right way??? If I was the Walrus I'd be out there too no matter what I said..and oh BTW he said he was going to drop some knowledge when he could..he merely said he wasn't going to coach the team..doesn't mean he won't advise them and he should.. I certainly want to see Genius and Dazeboll being watched knowing this year someone is looking at them and holding them accountable....

Carmen Policy used to make the rounds of every camp, OTA, and training camp with Al Lerner as well.
I wouldn't read too much into it other than maybe a desire to see how the assorted players in this rookie camp do. Once training camp hits, he will likely be there to see what the team looks like, and so he can have first hand observations when they have personnel meetings.

Policy would do it in a suit and tie. Minor differences that have a huge impact.

How many times have you seen Holmgren in a tie since he got here?
Did he even wear a tie to his introductary press conference?
Besides, Policy would have worn a suit to cut his lawn ..... if he actually cut his own lawn. He was a lawyer ..... he lived in a suit.

Policy wouldn't have a lawn. Just rows and rows of grape vines.
Now, he would smash his grapes with his bare feet while wearing a suit though

Attack, have you ever been to Training camp? I ask only so you have a frame of reference for what I'm going to say...
If you have, then you know that in the back of the facility facing the practice fields, there is a huge window area behind which I suspect are offices or conference rooms etc..
The VERY least I expected from Holmgren was that he'd be sitting at those windows with a pair of binocs looking at what was happening.. That's the LEAST I expected....

You would be correct. Those are offices. I have had the privledge of being all over that building in the past. Back when we still had Kenard Lang on our team a bunch of people from Berea got to go on tours and hang out at the place for a few hours, this was around '02 I think.

As the president of the team, and with unlimited power, I hope he is paying attention to every thing the team does. He knows the game, he knows how to coach, and I believe he knows how to win. If he's not paying attention 24/7, then he needs to give back that 50 million or so he's making.
Him being around the team in any fashion is an asset IMO.

I feel that Lerner is finaly going to get his money's worth. And that will benifit both the team as well as us as fans. We finaly have the ingrediants needed for success with a track record to prove it running the show IMO

Yeah, with the way this organization has been run in the past 10 years, it's no wonder none of us would know how to recognize a healthy organization when we see it.
MH will be around the field as much as everyday, I hope. He is a wealth of knowledge both fundamentally as well as psychologically. He has taught some premier NFL teams and he is a master at dealing with players and egos. He does it with a sense of calm and an aire of intelligence that we just haven't had here in a LONG time.
He and EM seem to have a very good relationship built on respect. They've both said and done the right things from the very beginning and the structure of the team has been well undersood by everyone. EM has made it known that he would love to get MH's opinion on football stuff and MH has dispelled any notion that he would be coaching.
One of the knocks against Savage was that he was never around. And while that would be an issue, our current structure has MH around a lot, Heckert doing his thing and EM in check.
This is the way it should be....finally.
I couldn't be happier.
