WOW....one of the many great voices of rock and roll who lost the battle to cancer.

I seen him in concert several times, a true rock and roller who seemed to be a great person as well.

Yes, the times on that are Saturday night/early Sunday morning. His official site had the same announcement I quoted, but has gone down under the amount of hits to the site.

That sucks. I'm really not much into a lot of the music that was popular from around his era but I liked a lot of his stuff, I actually have a few of his albums. Sad to see him go.

Never knew he had cancer. Sad to see him go.

Yes he was American.

Just googled him, he was born in New Hampshire and I did not know he was 67, I would have said mid-50s.
Wow, he kept his pipes in good shape.

A true icon of Metal. Saw him on the The Last in Line Tour and Sacret Heart Tours in the mid 80's.
His stuff with Rainbow was tremendous.
Never had a negative word to say to anyone.
Very humble guy when I met him on the Dehumanizer Tour around 92.
He will be missed.

Metal rocker Ronnie James Dio has died, wife says

Heavy metal rocker Ronnie James Dio died Sunday morning after a battle with stomach cancer, his wife announced.

"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45 a.m. 16th May," Wendy Dio said in a message posted on his official website.

Dio, 67, followed Ozzy Osbourne as Black Sabbath's lead vocalist in 1979.

"Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away," she wrote. "Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all."

Born Ronald James Padavona in 1942, Dio's professional music career began as a high school student in the late 1950s.

His 1960s rock group The Electric Elves evolved into Elf by the early 1970s, when the group played heavy blues rock.

Dio's rock became darker with his band Rainbow, which he left in 1979 to join Black Sabbath.

Black Sabbath released three albums with Dio, including "Heaven and Hell" in 1980, "Mob Rules" in 1981 and "Live Evil" in 1982.

Dio left that band in 1982, but he had a brief reunion with the group a decade later. He formed the group Dio in 1982. The group continued to perform until his illness.

His last public appearance was in April at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards when he accepted a vocalist of the year award his work on last year's Heaven and Hell album. Dio appeared frail, but he was able to speak when accepting his award.

I also forgot to mention that Dio was one of the very few heavy metal rock stars of the era to stay away from drugs entirely, and in a very public manner. I remember hearing an interview with hiw way back in the late 70s or early 80s where they talked about drugs and how he didn;t use them, and he said something like ...... life's too short to go through it like that .... or words to that effect. I really thought it was a strong statement for someone in a business that had drugs and alcohol as such a huge part of the culture.

I found a much later interview where he discussed the subject ....

Rock Link

In my opinion, this autobiography will be a lot different than other rock autobiographies. The usual rock autobiographies are about being addicted to drink and / or drugs, and then becoming clean, but obviously, you've lived a clean lifestyle haven't you Ronnie?

I have. I've lived a good lifestyle, and I've been very aware of what the horrible things that are out there can do to you. I've seen it, again, through the eyes of those people that I'm writing about, and it's so sad to see people that you like pass away, or to see their lives suddenly swirl down the toilet, because of anything that they've done to themselves so early on. I said to myself that I'm not gonna do anything like that, not that I don't drink much and that kind of thing, but as far as being someone who's abused a lot of mind-altering drugs or something, no, I've not done that. I tend to stay away from people who do that - I think you're judged by the friends that you keep, and I think you're a better person if you have good friends. Yeah, I've been someone who's not really dealt with that. I just think we don't have enough time on this Earth - why throw it away doing that?

I agree. And obviously, because they're affected by drugs, such people are probably somewhat difficult to work with - due to their addiction, and everything.

The difficult part about it all is the time that you've lost - that's what it's all about. There are a lot of people who've recovered from it, and good for them; people who've gone into rehab, and not gone back to that, and now have a better lifestyle, and are more successful, some more than others obviously. But it's that big gap of your life that you've taken away, and normally, it's the youngest part of your life, which should be the happiest and the most brilliant learning experience for you, and times to build memories that you'll cherish for the rest of your life. When you've got a void of seven, or eight, or ten, or twelve years from extended drug use or whatever you've done to yourself, you've lost that time, and it can never, never come back. That's the thing I never wanted to do

May his legacy live on with the horns on our hands! \m/

I'm disappointed because I was never able to see him live.

I am however blasting some serious Dio today, tomorrow and some of it will still be in my rotation for at least a couple months easy.

The Westboro Baptist Group, known for picketing graveside memorial ceremonies for fallen soldiers and others with inflamatory signs like "God Hates Fags" and shouting that dead soldiers are proof God hates America. Now the group has announced on it's website that it will attend the public memorial for Ronnie James Dio May 30 at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.

Here's the text posted on the church's website:

"WBC to picket this public memorial to remind you who worship that old Serpent, Satan, that your time is very short.

You know 67 year old, Satan-worshiping (or at least one of their enablers) Ronnie James Dio (of showing his devil horns to the world each time he goes in public) Black Sabbath fame is dead, right? We'll be there! Just because the chances of any of God's elect being amongst this group of heavy metal sycophants is slim to none does not mean they should not get some good words. Yes, it is true that Ozzy Osbourne did "accidentally" bite off the head of a bat, but THAT is the least of their sins (little nasties!), they currently do not do that, but they throw raw meat to the audience and encourage violence of EVERY FORM!

Here you have the list of admitted sins of this now dead and in hell pervert:

1) He hates his neighbor(s) starting with Ozzy Osbourne, and continuing down to his pornography star niece Gen Padova!

2) He hates God. Pay especial attention to the fact that he changed his original sir name from Padova to Dio, which means God in Italian.

3) Ronnie the simpleton enabled, and encouraged Sorceries: everything he was about including the little finger horn thing (he got this from his mother which is an incantation to ward off the "evil eye") to the drugs, bloody raw meat and his fellowship with those pentagon necklace wearing freakish band members.

Yes, Ronnie James Padova (NOT DIO) is currently residing in hell. When all those who worship him and his false gods meet him in hell it will be just like this: Isaiah 2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: Isaiah 14:11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. Praise God all ye, His people. The Great Day of the Lord draws nigh. AMEN!"

I think the rocker crowd just might handle these idiots a little differently than grieving military families.
