Thank goodness for a bad Indians' pitcher to help out a badly sputtering Reds offense.
5-0 Reds in the fourth.

Other than our own sputtering offense and sputtering pitching we're doing pretty damn well this year.

We just claimed a guy off waivers who was batting .163 in hopes of jump starting our offense.
Might wanna hold off on any "good outing" talk.

Harang likely won't be starting by the later part of the season. This outing doesn't fool me. He's not the same pitcher he used to be.

I wouldn't be surprised if they traded him once Volquez gets back in the rotation.

They are also saying Chapman will be up in the next few weeks as a reliever. If he does well, he may not be relieving for long depending on how the starters are doing.... No matter what, I think Harang's days are numbered.

It will be good to see Volquez get back in the rotation, and if Chapman can prove to be a decent starter...that will add much improvement over Harang.
Sure would be nice watching the Reds going into July with some decent pitching, let's hope the bullpen can improve as the heat goes on.
Not fun making the 50 mile ride to Cinci and seeing Harang give up four runs in the first to the Dodgers and then losing 12-0 last week with a two hour plus rain delay. Glad I did not hang around for the end.

I have seen a lot of bad baseball in my lifetime as an Indians fan, but this team is unwatchable. They are lackluster in every way. Fielders don't know how many outs there are, pitchers not getting to 1st base on plays when they need to cover, hitters with no concept of situational hitting - something as basic as advancing the runner, pitchers who are up 0-2 in the count grooving a get-me-over fastball that gets smoked by opposing hitters, and a manager that makes Eric Wedge look like a drama queen and who conveys no expectation of accountability from his players.
The Indians are playing .361 baseball ... Manny Acta has a career winning pct of .382 ... a new, different kind of "Manny being Manny", if you will.
Acta is not the main reason this team is so putrid, but he doesn't appear to be part of the solution either. I didn't like the hire when they made it and I still don't. I wanted them to hire Tony Pena, and I still do. Someone needs to kick some ass in the Indians clubhouse and I think Pena would do it. Just ask Jose Mesa how he liked eating Pena's catchers mitt in front of a full house at Jacobs Field when they disagreed about Pena's pitch selection.

Wow .... it's amazing to me that we got anything for this guy ..... http://www.cantonrep.com/newsnow/x370835569/Indians-trade-Russell-Branyan-to-MarinersIndians trade Russell Branyan to Mariners The Indians traded 1B/DH Russell Branyan to the Mariners early Sunday morning. Cleveland gets minor leaguers Ezequiel Carrera and shortstop Juan Diaz in the exchange, which the Indians didn’t announce until after midnight. Signed to a one-year free-agent deal in the offseason, Branyan appeared in 52 games after beginning the season on the disabled list. The 34-year-old Branyan batted .263 with nine doubles, 10 home runs and 24 RBIs. Carrera, a 22-year-old outfielder, was batting .268 with six doubles, nine steals and 18 RBIs in 64 games with Triple-A Tacoma this year. He’s currently on the disabled list with a hip pointer. The left-handed hitter won a Double-A Southern League batting title last year with a .337 mark. Diaz, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound shortstop, was batting .295 with eight doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 41 RBIs in 70 games for Single-A High Desert. The 21-year-old is a switch hitter. Carrera will report to Triple-A Columbus, while Diaz is slated for Single-A Kinston. The Indians plan to fill Branyan’s spot on the big-league roster before Sunday’s game with the Reds.

shapiro does his best work with mediocre player trades.
Branyan came FROM seattle, so they are admitting a major mistake by not re-signing him.
worst case: Branyan hits some HRs, the prospects bust out, but even then, we still get LaPorta everyday MLB ABs.

Here's a little more info on the prospects we got from a pretty good site called Indians Prospect Insider:Branyan Traded To SeattleSunday, June 27, 2010 The Cleveland Indians announced they have acquired outfielder Ezequiel Carrera and shortstop Juan Diaz from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for infielder Russell Branyan and cash or a player to be named later. Carrera, 22, has spent the entire 2010 season to date at AAA Tacoma as he has hit .268 (57-213) with 24 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 triples and 18 RBI in 64 games. He has stolen 9 bases in 14 attempts this season but is currently on the AAA disabled list with a left hip pointer. Before being injured, Carrera was hitting .311 (19-61) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles and 6 RBI in 18 games during the month of June. Prior to the start of the 2010 season, Carrera was ranked as the 15th best prospect in the Mariners organization by Baseball America. Last year, the left-handed hitting outfielder won the Southern League Batting title as he hit .337 (111-329) with 68 runs scored, 12 doubles, 4 triples, 2HR and 38RBI in 91 games at AA West Tennessee while being named to both the Southern League All-Star and also the Topps Double-A All-Star team. Carrera also posted a .441 on-base percentage which led the Southern League and was 3rd best in all of minor league baseball. The Venezuelan native was named the best defensive outfielder in the Florida State League in 2008 by Baseball America. Carrera was originally signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2005 and will report to AAA Columbus in the coming days. Diaz, 21, a 6-4, 170-pound switch hitting shortstop, has spent the entire 2010 season to date at High Desert of the California League batting .295 (75-254) with 39 runs scored, 8 doubles, 3 triples, 7HR and 41RBI in 70 games. He has also stolen 8 bases in 10 attempts and has an OPS of .779 (.345 on-base % & .433 slg. %). Last year, Diaz batted .311 (101-325) with 55 runs scored, 22 doubles, 5 triples, 4HR and 29RBI in 84 games at High Desert as he was named to the California League All-Star Team. The Dominican Republic native was on the disabled list from June 25-August 4th with a fractured hamate in the left hand however came back to finish the season and played for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Seattle in 2006 and will report to Kinston in the coming days. Branyan was signed by the Indians on February 24th and hit .263 (45-171) with 24 runs scored, 9 doubles, 10HR and 24RBI in 52 games for Cleveland this year. The Indians will make a roster move prior to tomorrow’s game with the Cincinnati Reds to fill Branyan’s spot on the Major League 25-man roster. http://www.indiansprospectinsider.com/2010/06/branyan-traded-to-seattle.html

He hasn't been giving up that many ER in recent starts...hard to fault him in the Mariners game where he gave up three hits and one run but was tagged for the loss.
And speaking of things that have been numbered.....remember how there once was a thread for every Indians series against a new opponent? Where'd they all go????

Now trade Kearns, and bring Brantley back up to play everyday. He has been playing well since being sent down.

I'm thinking we need to wait out with Kearns until after the allstar break. He actually has the numbers to back up a decent trade to a contending team, so we most likely get more then.

It's true that Harang hasn't been pitching terribly lately, but he isn't even close to living up to his contract. With Volquez coming back, and five other guys pitching well, it makes sense that Harang is the odd man out.

(the following spoken in my uncle's thick greek accent):
Ok, ok, you twisted our arms. You can have Peralta for him. No? You are killing us and our families. We will go without pitching without him and Peralta is bound to break his slump. What if we throw in a Luis Valbuena? Deal? Say deal...one word, one syllable. Very easy to say.

For anybody: Is there a radio station that does Reds games I can find on the 'Net without signing up/paying? They've turned into my favorite NL team, and I'm thinking about buying a Reds hat (the older ones that are all red with just the white 'C').

Thanks but I don't have a credit card. Shows how much I followed baseball the past 10 years: I didn't know Cabrera was as good as he apparently is, 2nd in SS fielding statistics in the NL. BTW the ESPN stat site blows.

more pricey, but for $60 more, you get MLB TV. Live streaming of any live game plus any completed game.
very cool features of being able to skip to specific innings/ABs on the completed games and for live games being able to pull up the box scores/highlights and overlay them while watching live.

also, the Fury is doing what the Fury does. Giving hope to the opposition but squeaking out unharmed.

http://www.myp2pforum.eu/threads/41238-Streaming-MLB-Today-Sun-June-27Follow the directions. Download Stream Torrent. Link Afterwards, click on the game link. It does take between 3-10 minutes for the stream to start, but they are generally pretty stable once going. It will show "This website could not be displayed" or some such crap until the streaming starts. I didn't tell ya about this one though.
