5/6 teams and all in the right spot. Thank you Landon Donovan.
I think my problem with the NCAA tourney must be I watch too many games. I know less about the World Cup than any other bracket I've filled out and I have never done this well
The wife is standing strong atop the standings right now. She's got 20 points (19 for you no_logo & 17 for me). 20 points puts her in the 99.3 percentile in ESPN. Not bad.
For Group H: I have Spain #1 and Switzerland #2 The wife has Spain #1 and Chile #2 No_logo has Spain #1 and Honduras #2
Chile and Spain play each other at 1:30 (while the Swiss play Honduras)
Honduras needs to beat the Swiss 3-0 and have Chile beat Spain 2-0 to get in. I think.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
i ripped this from my uncle, but i think it's pretty funny
Quote: Why is the World Cup like WW2?
The war turned on African Soil... The French surrender early... The Italians give up.. ... England are left to fight the Germans.. USA arrive last minute and.... No one saw the Japs coming

This goes to show how knowing less is more. Going in, I knew that Honduras had beaten Chile, US and Mexico in qualifying. And got to replay Chile here. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I am sort of cheering for South America to stay undefeated though. How long can it last?
Spain up 2-0. Looks like they'll advance. Good for them.
With them being up 2 goals, it knocks Chile's goal differential down to zero, same as the Swiss. So if the Swiss can score just ONE goal, they'd tie Chile in total points and get in on goal differential.
COME ON SWITZERLAND!

Kind of off topic ... but remember that cool Nike Ad:
I was mentioning this on another forum ... it might just rival the Madden Curse in terms of destruction.
You've got Drogba ... breaks his arm right before the cup, and Ivory Coast doesn't even get out of the group stage. Cannavaro has a horrible tourney as well and can't get to the second round either. Ronaldo and Rooney both player horrid too, with a goal between them ... and both leave in the first elimination game. Ronaldinho doesn't even MAKE the Brazil national team, and they got eliminated in the quarters ... and then there's Kobe Bryant! The ONE game he shows up for (Ghana) is the only game the Americans lose!
Quote: i have a question for you soccer experts...
we saw today and i think one other time in this world cup, guy gets a handball right at the net and gets the red card, and the team gets the pk kick.
do you still get a red card if that situation happens and the ball still goes in the net?
Excellent question and I believe the answer is no. The red card comes automatically for a 'denial of a clear scoring chance' so I believe a good ref would award the goal and a yellow to the handball offender. I could be wrong though.
That is an excellent question! I think that if the ball goes into the net and the referee has not blown his whistle the goal is awarded and the player gets away with the 'attempted' foul. It is not a professional foul because the goal was scored. Had the handball happened further out and the referee blown his whistle before the ball went into the net it would be a red card and penalty.
Now from a moral standpoint Uruguay are in the semi finals because they cheated. Suarez is suspended for the semi, but if you are a Ghana supporter you have to feel really gutted.
I did feel that Holland would beat Brazil, the indiscipline of Melo was unbelievable. Sneijder has to be up there for player of the tournament, along with David Villa imo.
Really looking forward to Argentina Germany its a shame both cant lose but I fancy a semi final lineup of Spain v Argentina
I still have 3/4 semifinalists alive, which is my only hope to catchup at this point (Go Germany and Spain....thank you Holland).
Well, that went well.
From here: 16 points per win in the semis. Another 32 for picking the winner. I'll put what people have after the standings.

That is 7 of 8 permutations. The 8th is if Uruguay beats Germany in the Finals. In that instance, I would also win (only because noone picked Uruguay this far).
Do you have an EPL team or just watch whoever is on? I've been following Randy Lerner's Aston Villa since the last World Cup and it's been a pretty fun 4 years ... granted, they frustrate you just as bad as every other Cleveland team.
not really. i just kinda watch whoever is on. i seem to catch madrid quite often as well.
i know i won't root for manchester united, because that's just too easy, and me being a cleveland fan, i would rather go down the route of like an aston villa, a decent team.
i like chelsea too, only because i rocked the hell out of them in fifa 07, drogba must have scored 200 goals.
Ya, it was a great game of back and forth action. I think the N'drlands 2nd goal might have been offsides but I can't be 100% sure the dude redirected the ball.....it was close either way. And then they closed any doubt by scoring a 3rd right away.
GOOOOOOOOOO GERMANY!
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
Pick a team ... it helps you follow the league a lot better.
Don't pick Chelsea though ... they are like the Yankees/Man U ... if only they were owned by a Russian Billionaire with sketchy mob ties, who needed a way to launder his money.
Same thing with Man City .... they're owned by a Dubai'ian Billionare who's looking to buy his way to a championship. Arsenal is one of the "Big 4 teams" I can actually respect a little ... but some people don't like them because the vast majority of their players aren't English.
Good teams to pull for:
Villa - American owner, American Keeper (Fridel, who is also from Mentor, OH), American Back-up Keeper (Guzan, also on Team USA). Been one of the better teams in the league for the last few years.
Spurs: Just broke through into the "top-4", so it might be a bit of a bandwagon pick, but they aren't really one of those "New York Yankee" picks either.
Fulham: Have a number of Americans including Clint Dempsey, but are usually struggling to be better than average.
Everton: Have Tim Howard in goal, and recently had Landon Donovan on loan. They also usually find themselves near the top of the league, and aren't one of those "NYY" teams.

why would i do that when i can just follow the nets?
villa's netter is a mentor guy? is that through randolph or just a coincidence?
