That attempt at a save is as bad as the post itself.
Your "smack" is as bad as your blatant refusal to read what I typed.
I said they are based off of the same thing.
Ergo, they are all related.
You are the one that chose to twist what I said into something else.
Me saying they are based off of the same teachings, codes, passages, etc.. is because they are.
You saying:
Your claim that Christians claiming that their religion is the only true religion is utter BS. Yet, sure enough here in this very thread you have Christians condemning Islam while endorsing Christianity which has many of the same violent texts in its "Bible".
So, you go ahead and claim that Christians don't dislike Islam. You go ahead and claim that Christians have always like Islam. You go ahead and deny the Crusades. You go ahead and deny the messages that SIOA are spreading. You go ahead and deny the blatant anti-muslim sentiments found throughout this thread.

LMAO!! Keep trying. You said that the argument between the major 3 is "My God is better than your God". Your exact words. I corrrectly pointed out that they all worship the same God, nothing was twisted or misread. You were simply wrong, and there is nothing you can say now that will correct your bogus statement. There's nothing wrong with admitting a mistake.

No, you keep trying.
Read my post i blatantly stated:
b]Islam, Christianity, Judaism are all based off of the same beliefs.
So, I was not wrong. They are based off the same beliefs. They are all based off of the Torah. So, no, I was not wrong. You simply chose to see what you wanted to see.
It all boils down to Christians thinking they know what is right and that their religion is the right religion.

Swap "God" with "faith" and I think that's what he's trying to say.
All of this is irrelevant. People are stupid. There are idiots working at every company, morons in each political party, and goofballs practicing every religion. Characterizing a religion by the followers that happen to make the news is poor logic, at best.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Sorry, Charlie. Your post also blatantly stated "My God is better than your God" at the beginning, and repeating it several times made it the theme of your argument.

But you were wrong, Charlie. I chose to see exactly what you wrote....word for word....several times. "My God is better than your God". That statement indicates seperate Gods any which way you look at it. Twist it any which way you want, bring up something you wrote later in the post.....you still said it, it's there for all to see and you are wrong. Like I said, we won't think less of you if you admit your theory was bogus.

this is clearly a simply misunderstanding. charlie has been consistent in his message.
the statement "my god is better than your god" does not imply there are two gods. it's merely a very common attitude shared by many lower-thinking people of any religion and charlie was saying that they say this despite not knowing they share the same god.
when i say "my laptop is better than your laptop" it does not imply that we even have different laptops. the only difference factually supported in that statement is *who owns it* is different.

You win Charlie. How about this now? I'll go to the south. The hotbed of the Bible Belt and carry a sign with a picture of Jesus and a picture of Muhamed. You can take a copy of the same sign and walk through a random Islamic country. Say Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. We'll meet up a week later and tell stories. They should be pretty identical. As there is no difference in the religious thinking. I'm done with this conversation.
Soccer still sucks.
No, that is apples and oranges. In Christianity it is not considered sacreligious to have a picture of Jesus. In Islam, it is to have one of Muhammed because it is a form of idolotry.
But, if you really want to be equal. How about I go to Mecca and bring along a pig to slaughter in the name of Allah. While, at the same time, you go to Rome on Easter Sunday, defecate while in the square and throw it at the Pope.
One day later we'll meet up, assuming we are not dead.
You've proven my point. I don't care that carrying a sign with Muhamed is sacriligious. Any religion that then PROMOTES killing/beating/stoning that person carrying the sign is a religion that PROMOTES VIOLENCE. It's not as though a gentleman would come over and ask, "Sir, could you please lower your sign. As in our counrtry, and faith, that sign is deamed sacriligious. Many here would find it quite offensive. Thank you for your understanding." No. Instead they drag you behind a truck or some other sociopathic display and do it in the name of their religion. See.?

There is no misunderstanding. I have a very good idea of what Charlie's thoughts are in regards to Christianity and religion, and in this particular case his theory was wrong. He did not say that only the "lower- thinking people" believe "My God is better than your God". He didn't say the conflict was "my faith is better than your faith" (which I wouldn't have argued). He said "My God is better than your God" , I took it literally (repeating it 3 frickin' times leaves you no choice) and it is wrong, as all 3 religions worship the same God.

Go ask the family of George Tiller how Christians won't kill other Christians in the name of their religion.
Tiller was even killed during a church ceremony. So, Christians won't even observe their own religion to kill people they see as doing somebody "sacreligious".

This is all about the same old line.
"My God Is Better Than Your God"
Christians look at Muslims and say:
"My God Is Better Than Your God"
Islam, Christianity, Judaism are all based off of the same beliefs.
Yet, even though they share many of the same morals, passages, codes, and beliefs they still go to each other and say:
"My God Is Better Than Your God"
Please read the parts that I put in BOLD again.
It is clear from that post, which is the same one that you are referencing, that I know that they all worship the same god.

Yes Christians kill Chirstians. There are a few wackjobs in all walks of life. Lawyers kill, docotors kill, alcoholics kill, crackheads kill. This is a known. All walks of life have their people strattling the edge of sanity. But let's look at the numbers. Are the Christians strapping explosives onto themselves and taking out bus stops and pizza joints in this or any other country in the civilized world? On any kind of a regular basis. And doing it in the name of Christianity. Is this part of what is being tought in the Christian teaching churches across the country?

Well, actually, if you must know, there are numerous Christian terrorist groups.
Here are a few
National Liberation Front of Tripura which engage in terrorist action against India
There is the Lord's Resistance Army of Uganda which is responsible for massacres, abductions, mutilation, torture, rape, and forcing women into sex slavery. All done in the name of Christ. Led by Joseph Kony who declared himself to be a spiritual medium who believes he communicates with the Holy Spirit.
Let's also not forget Jim Jones and David Koresh.

That's like saying that a man who knows the human body inside out can't be a doctor unless he knows primates physiology as well. Or that one cannot be versed in English Literature unless they also study Greek and Roman Literature as well. If I want to be a doctor, I don't study the practice of using spells to cure a patient. I don't consider that to be part of my belief system.
Haha, I think you're reaching a bit on that one. I'm referring to when anyone (of any faith) acts like they're "absolutely sure" that what they believe is right and the only view of truth- despite only being immersed in one religion (the one they're brought up in)- and try to pass their beliefs off as truth. It's such an abstract matter of thought that to know just one possibility for the answer of a cosmos/morality/purpose/etc., is- if anything- like only listening to Nickelback and claiming them to be the best band of all time without trying out some Tool, Metallica, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc. Another analogy I find more fitting would be to eat only a burger from Mickey D's and claiming them to have the best burgers in the country. Get what I'm saying? I say short-change on the basis that when faith is used in this way, it's a simple limiting of possibilities in a matter which is of abstract thought. To not ponder the other possibilities and their potential for truth is to succumb to a state of willful ignorance, if you ask me. If it works for you, fine. Just don't pass off beliefs as truth.
As a side note (this I know will probably not go over well but it goes along with the motif of getting ideas flowing), I find faith (belief in something without evidence/proof) to be a false, actually negative virtue. It's really irrational and cruel that an individual soul could experience hellfire for eternity simply over non-belief. I say so mainly because it perpetuates two bad ideas. First, it implies that the one thing God most wants from you is belief in him ultimately. Secondly, that being faithful puts you above others who are not and will be rewarded in the afterlife. If God is so vain and jealous to the point where he wants to eternally separate himself from me over the idea of me not believing in him because of a lack of evidence, then he can shove it. If I were a supreme being- if anything- I'd be glad to reunite with love and joy with the lost son (kind of like that parable of the Prodigal Son ). At least that's what I think a real God of love would do. It is when faith is taken to lengths of blind, unquestioned modes of group thought and never-ending degrees of gullibility that I denounce it's worth. The idea of "accept my son as your savior or go to hell" without any evidence is ludicrous to me. If that's the way it really is, I'm happy to surf on the lake of fire, my friends.
Good things can come from religion. It's just the rigidity of thought and means of control I can't stomach. My intent isn't to crap on others' beliefs. I know I may come across as bitter and scathing, but I really would just like to see a more well-informed, broadened population that is capable of self reliance and independent critical thinking. Ytown, you know when I look at history (as I recall you, yourself, are quite into that subject) why I have a distrust for the middlemen/agents of religion or politics because of how vulnerable and easily taken advantage of mankind can be from unquestioned modes of thinking. That's why I fight it and want ideas flowing. I don't enjoy just arguing for the sake of arguing.
At the end of the day I'm just of the brand of Epicurean philosophy that says we humans have nothing to fear about the afterlife or our souls. This is all so out of our control in that sense. We don't know why or how we are here (though we can theorize all we want), we just know that we are. What we do with our time on this earth is up to us. I think we all know damn well that the more well-rounded and broadened our world view is, the farther we can go as a unified human race. Knowledge is power. Let's not be content with what we know, but actually keep growing and learning.

In your defense, Portland (mine as well)...
A.) The story is about people taking their religious beliefs to an extreme because someone watched World Cup instead of pretty much jerking it to their set of beliefs. I find the subject at hand to be much more closely related to religion than World Cup on those grounds. The fact I believe we have two other World Cup threads (one Team USA the other non-USA) doesn't hurt, either.
B.) Any thread on this message board is a time bomb slowly ticking that could turn into a pissing match between the believers and nonbelievers over dogmas, evolution, scriptures, etc. I know religion/politics always tend to ruffle feathers but talking about it and getting ideas flowing beats the alternative of just burying our heads in the proverbial sand on those subjects just because they may cause discomfort or tension.
Politicians are puppets, y'all. Let's get Geppetto!

When you compare faith to Rock bands and fast food, it is worse than comparing apples and oranges. I believe my wife is the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, I dont need to sleep around with a bunch of women to discover if I'm right or not. I do not have a religion, I have a relationship with God, who has given me peace and purpose, answered my prayers, and blessed my life ever since I became a Christian..
Compare the nations that were founded on Christian principles and those that were founded on Budhism, Islam, or Hinduism. America became the greatest nation on earth because our constitution, Bill of Rights, etc were founded on Judeo-Christian principles, although our practice has not always lived up to the lofty standards of the constitution and the Bill of Rights. Have you noticed that the minute we began to suppress Christianity and Judeo-Christian ethics our country began to go into decline. What happened to cause the rampant school shootings and violence, teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, etc. These things dramaticatically increased when we ceased to be one nation under God.
Compare the ammount of freedom in countries that largely worship the God of the Bible and those that worship Allah or Budha or Hindu gods. And now that America is turning more and more away from the worship of the True God, we are losing our freedoms, we are divided more than at any time since the civil war, and our economy is failing.
Read the Book of Proverbs, Jesus' sermon on the mount ( Matthew 5-7 ), and all of the teachings of Jesus IN CONTEXT and tell me these principles are not wise, and don't give me all the examples of the Old Testament that you don't agree with, because many of those laws were for the nation of Israel only, and for the purpose of preserving the Jewish race and preventing them from losing their identity by being assimilated into the nations around them.
That is another incredible evidence of the Bible, the survival of the Jewish race and culture despite several invasions, captivity, dispersion, attempted genocide, and attempts to take away their Jewish heritage, ( see AntiochusIV). This preservation was due largely to the laws that many in this site mock because they don't know their purpose.
Of course we don't kill adulterers, Idolaters, etc anymore, because the kingdom of God is no longer a physical kingdom that needed to be preserved from the horrible paganism around them, ( which included child sacrifice). Now the true kingdom is spiritual, in the hearts of men, for Jesus said My kingdom is not of this world
And back to the point: Just because these people wanted to watch a gospel show and killed someone over it doesnt mean that is what Christianity stands for. We all know that their are unstable people in every religion and in every walk of life.

Do you know the difference between orthodox Christianity and bizarre wacko cults. Jesus said that many would come in His Name and deceive many. Think about it. For the sake of argument, let's assume that there is a God and there is a devil who is God's enemy. What better way to attack God's kingdom than to send out a bunch of counterfeits who claim to be following Jesus, and deceive them into doing a bunch of horrible things. Then the devil can tell the rest of the world, "look at how evil and violent those Christians are."

I find the whole premise of Christians absolutely sure in their faith laughable when the vast majority (we can safely say) have NEVER so much as cracked open, let alone read through the entire sacred texts of other religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism, etc. To know one religion is to know none.
As for the content of any sacred texts and any significant "truth" coming from them, it's the isolated, random opinions and interpretations of what are simply other men (from thousands of years ago, mind you) and what they personally thought the message and idea of God was. How's that for context? Why not- if you believe in a god(s) or any type of high power- decide for yourself what that truth is in that being as opposed to blindly adopting those simple opinions/interpretations? Looking at how sporadic, hateful, intolerant, jealous, absurd (with all due respect- I'm talking about the notions of kings worshiping an infant and virgin births- AKA absurdities)- particularly the Islamo-Judeo-Christian texts are- (despite what I find are some good writings, proverbs, parables, and the like here and there), I find to put all, if not most matters of ethics/morality solely in the hands of the Bible or Koran to be short-changing to yourself; and morality and philosophy in general.
Seriously. Just ponder this. Remember when Clem put up a discussion about confirmation biases? I don't find deciding what you want to believe and then looking for evidence to support beliefs a good model for thinking. People (especially in America and on this board, too) do the same thing with their religion. It's pretty much all relative, folks. If you were born a woman in India you'd probably have an arranged marriage and no one thinks a thing of it. If you're born into Christianity/Judaism/Islam and indoctrinated as a child, you're probably just going to stick with that (depending on what agents/middle men of the faith you're dealing with if at all, it may be peaceful and seem personally rewarding or may be of a militant, skewed
_________________________________________________________________
You made a lot of assumptions there, like Christians cannot decide for themselves what is true, that Christians uncritically accept what has been taught to them, and that Christians decide what they want to believe in and then find evidence to support it. These are all monstrous assumptions and stereotypes. Do you realize that many Christians are former atheists, evolutionists, Hindus, Budhists, Moslems, Jews, occultists, and even satanists.

To claim to be a Christian is very different than to practice in faith and be a Christian.
I can claim to be a fisherman, I can even catch a fish, it does not mean I truly possess that which defines a true fisherman.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

They are still Christian though. So, don't go dismissing them because you don't agree with them. They are still Christian. You stated there were no Christian Terrorists, well I just showed you two such examples and you are trying to dismiss them?
There are several other groups as well, such as the Maronites in Lebanon (they in general they have been peaceful, with a few bad eggs).
The message I am trying to say is that there are Chrstian terrorists as well and to demonize Islam due to a few terrorists is an extreme reach. You are so hell-bent on turning this into a modern-day Crusade between Christians and Muslims that it is quite sad. There are over a billion Muslims in the world and you are acting like each and every one of them are terrorists, which is not right. The majority aren't terrorists the minority are.

Hey Charlie, you have me confused with someone else, I never even mentioned Muslim terrorists. I know there are terrorists who call themselves Christians, but just because someone calls themselves a Christian doesn't make them one. Also, I certainly know that not all Muslims are terrorists. I would never stereotype a group of people like that.
