The Pittsburgh Steelers may have been dealt another big blow to what's already been a trying offseason.
Starting offensive tackle Willie Colon suffered a torn Achilles, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Colon will have more tests to confirm the injury on Tuesday, but the Steelers believe Colon needs surgery and five to six months of rehab, the source said.
"It looks like it's an Achilles [injury]," Colon's agent Joe Linta said. "We want to wait to confirm it, but that's kind of our worst fears."
Colon was working out in Pittsburgh doing agility drills Monday morning when the injury took place. Colon's injury was first reported by Scout.com.
Colon's potentially season-ending injury would be another big obstacle for Pittsburgh's offense to overcome in 2010. The Steelers traded receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets, and starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will serve a conditional six-game suspension to start the season after violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

Ouch. That sucks for him. I hate to see anyone suffer an injury like that.
I can't say that it upsets me a great deal from the "hurts the Steelers and Roethlisberger" part though.

They're going to get rocked this year. No ben for at least 4 games. No more Holmes. There defense keeps geting older on the D-line. We've seen what happens when Troy is out for them. So if he gets hurt there goose is cooked.

I don't like to see anyone get injured. But anything negative that happens to the Steelers is a positive for the Browns.
Now the Steelers will have to replace Colon with an unproven player, a 2nd stringer, or a guy of the free agency scrap heap. Sounds good to me.
And for the first four games they will have the highly immobile Leftwich at QB so he might get destroyed. Although maybe he will actually get the ball out of his hand unlike Roethlisberger.

Wait, didn't he get tagged in the offseason, or sign a 1 year tender or something?
That REALLY sucks for him, he is never going to cash in on Free Agency now.

I feel bad for Colon. Would have preferred a few dozen mental lapses on his part to hurt the Steelers. Never a season ending injury.

That's a bummer for them. Losing an integral part of an already porous line is not going to help their new offensive. I bet Ben is going to feel even more heat due to his century long decision making in the pocket. Unless they can miraculously fix this like we did with hank I can see the steelers along with the jets being the two biggest disappointments of the 2010 NFL season

It it's a complete tear, he's done for the season and probably his career. Same thing the finished off Jamir Miller.

Hate to see players get injured.. any teams players..
Best wishes for a speedy recovery..
As for it being thier loss and our gain, maybe it's just me, but look around, we beat them in December last year and all the negative nancys say is that we caught them when they were struggling.. so, having said that, I want them at full strength when we play and beat them.. that should shut the naysayers up....

I dont care about the naysayers, just win. No one is telling the Saints they only won because Dwight Freeney was injured. Injuries happen all over the NFL. I've heard this is a devasting injury and could put his career in jeporady (see jamir miller). That being said its a steeler and I wont be losing sleep over it.

Your point of "full strength" for the Steelers reminds me of a conversation I had at work with a Steeler "fan" about a month or so after that game. I was wearing a Browns shirt as I almost always do in the winter, he was wearing a Steeler hat - I wasn't being "that guy" after we won and rubbing it in.... I simply asked him what he thought of that last Browns/Steeler game. The rest is history.... and I quote....
Steeler fan - "Ya...ya know why Roethlisberger got sacked so many times don't ya?" Me - "No...why?" Steeler fan - "Because Pollum wasn't in there blocking for him."
I was literally rendered speechless because of his ignorance. I didn't know how to tell him the name was Polumalu and that typically star safetys don't play offensive guard or tackle. I know all Steeler fans aren't this ignorant, but to me... it kind of made my life, lol. It was the brightest example of hillbilly ignorance I'd ever come across.
Just wanted to share that nugget - maybe with Colon out Pollum can finally get his chance. lol

My neighbor Jeff (born & raised in Cleveland) became a Steelers "fan" when the Modell moved the team. He wears some hideous sweatshirt of theirs now and then. Ask him to name more than 2 players on their team though...he knows Ben and Troy, that's it. Usually if he sees me on a football Sunday afternoon he'll ask me if the stinkers won or not- he rarely watches a game. Yet, he will place bets with anyone willing on his favorite team and of course glow in their victories over the Browns. I just don't get it.
As far as Colon getting injured, I feel bad for him, but not the Steelers - we have had more than our share of bad luck injuries over the years. It happens.
Now Cedric Benson getting arrested is hilarious!

Flozell Adams visited the Steelers... Quote:
The Steelers may go outside the organization to find a replacement for injured right tackle Willie Colon.
Mammoth free agent tackle Flozell Adams (6-7, 338) was at the Steelers' practice facility today visiting with the organization. Adams went through a workout and physical with the team.
Adams, 35, was a five-time Pro Bowl selection with the Dallas Cowboys after being drafted in the second round in 1998 out of Michigan State.
Adams started 173 of his career 177 games with the Cowboys, most of which came at left tackle. Adams played his first season in the league at right guard.
Adams asked for his release earlier this year when it became apparent that the Cowboys were going to release him. He was due a $2.5 million roster bonus in April to go along with a base salary of more than $5 million.
Adams had the longest tenure of any Dallas player at the time of his release.
The Steelers are looking for a replacement for Colon at right tackle. If signed, Adams could be put at left tackle with Max Starks moving to right tackle. Starks played right tackle his first four years in the league before getting shifted to left tackle. Adams could also play right tackle.

Well, I hate the Stoolers with such intensity, I'm fighting with the urge to be happy about this. I know it's wrong to feel good about something like this. And I know that the majority of Stooler fans would/have laughed in delight whenever we have super important guys go down - the scum.
At any rate, it looks like these guys are gonna really struggle this year.
FWIW, in true Stooler fashion, the general reaction over on their board is that he was totally over-rated anyway and they won't miss him at all.

Unfortunately for Steelers' opponents, I think they're fairly on the money with that one. Colon is a bum. Actually, just about everyone on their oline is a bum.

A "gift win" is a BS concept. When Pittsburgh was beating us with 4 lineman out with injuries, or when Gradkowski had to start after being on the team for a month, or the same game when we were playing a TE off the street, they reveled in it never acknowledging that they were beating a decimated team.
For years many of our fans have made the comment about beating them full strength. While it would be nice, beating them without Polamalu is just the same. The Browns have had many seasons over the past ten years where injuries have really hurt the team, no one that beat us felt bad about it.
IMO, full stength or injury riddled, in the NFL a win is a win. There are no asterisks next to losing teams that state their injury situation. The stoolers have beaten many teams at less than full strength, and bragged about it like any other win. All teams do this. Any win over them is good, them having injuries doesn't lessen the win even the slightest. Those who use that argument are fools. A win is a win, no matter how it happens.
As for the comments about our win last year being against a slumping team, so effing what! We've been slumping for a decade, noone gives us the benefit of the doubt. We beat them up. They played inferior football, and they lost. That's how it works. It wasn't a fluke, it was a long overdue ass whooping.

I'm really sick of the BS comments today from folks that don't take the time to read what's said within context.. Go freakin read the post I was responding to first then come back to me.., Pittsburgh wasn't even in the conversation..

Easy Daman...I wasn't calling your statement BS. It was just that what you said made me think, and I wrote what I was thinking. I didn't mean for you to think I was targeting your statement...so sorry if that offended you.
My main point was ...a win is a win.

If the browns start to win again watch how fast these fairweather fans will come back.
I also have a friend that is a steelers fan and when they were beaten last year he told me, "Big deal, come talk to me when the Browns win 6 superbowls." That will be their answer every year if we beat them......God I hate Steelers fans.

Having grown up in Western PA, my entire family back there are steelers fans.. So I hear that all the time.. it's funny how they forget that the Browns have quite a few championships as well.. Just not Superbowls.
It's funny, they forget that there was such a thing as a championship BEFORE they started calling it the Superbowl...

LaVar Arrington said that Adams is washed-up and a dirty player. Adams is big but slowwwww. Put a speed rusher on the edge and watch him turn into a turnstile.
Maybe Grossi is right, the Stoolers are in decline.
