That Ben Roethlisberger left his mark at the Country Club at Muirfield Village last week is not in question.

The nature of the mark is.

Multiple reports yesterday suggested that a Dublin homeowner saw the troubled Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback urinating on the course during a round of golf early Friday evening.

The woman reported the incident to the club and then called police, who investigated. But Roethlisberger and his friends had left the course by then, the woman did not press charges, and no citations were issued.

A source close to Roethlisberger told ProFootballTalk.com that the man seen urinating was another member of Roethlisberger's group.

A woman who answered the phone at the club, after hearing the caller describe the man, reportedly told the caller that it was Roethlisberger. The caller then told police that it was Roethlisberger, according to the police report.

A club official told The Dispatch yesterday that it wasn't verified whether Roethlisberger or either of his playing partners was the culprit.

The official said an employee was sent to the area between the 17th green and 18th tee, where the incident occurred, and found no golfers there.

The woman's home on Davington Drive is adjacent to the 17th hole at the club and within view of the area where the incident occurred. She did not return a call from The Dispatch yesterday.

Roethlisberger's agent, Ryan Tollner, did not return a call from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Roethlisberger, a Findlay, Ohio, native, is suspended for the first four to six games of the NFL season after a college sophomore accused him in March of raping her in a Milledgeville, Ga., club. He was not charged.

He also was sued last year by a Nevada woman alleging that he sexually assaulted her in 2008. He was not charged in that case, either.

Before playing the Country Club at Muirfield Village, Roethlisberger attempted to get a tee time at the more prestigious Muirfield Village Golf Club across the road. But according to a source at that club, he was denied.

"His reputation precedes him," the source said.

I can tell you for fact, Ben is not the only one to have ever done such a thing.

Well hopefully he walked a few yards into the woods before he did, instead of watering a fairway or something.

If he was between the 17th green and the 18th tee and if he was drinking beer, then that was probably about the 4th time he urinated on the course that day.

As long as he wasn't urinating in her yard or in plain sight of her house... if he was trying to be discreet.. .then big deal.

Considering how much I did this when I played golf back in the day, I should be a Pro-bowl quarterback by default.

+1

I've done a lot worse on a golf course too.

You know you're butt is in the crosshairs of the media when they're reporting you "might" have urinated on a golf course. Jeez!

I'm sure he's not,but the other guys aren't news worthy.I don't like Ben but they really need to get off his back about stupid stuff like this.

If it's such a big deal, they should put porta-potty's around the place.

Wonder if the woman had her binoculars out?

I mean, he pee'd on a golf course. Not a big deal. Everyone does it.

But seriously, how dumb is the guy. You're an NFL QB, find a restroom.

I have no problem with what he did, but I just can't help but thinking... Why would he do ANYTHING that might possibly make the news right now?

That's actually pretty disgusting. Why don't they put johns in various places if it's so common?

They do, but if everyone elses game is like mine, you're going into the woods to find your ball anyway, so why not?

Johns are usually at the clubhouse and the 9-10 hole area. Which means if your on 5 and need to go, well, you need to go. Most people find a wooded area and hide.

Plus, add in 3-4 beers....you have to go when it says so. You wouldn't want to get uromysitisis for holding it in.

They do. You always have a bathroom at the clubhouse, which is where you start, where you make the turn between holes 9 and 10, and where you finish.. In between most course will have 1 or 2 on the course and they try to put them where multiple holes come together for maximum efficiency but sometimes its slow play, sometimes its one too many beers.. there are tons of reasons you might have to go and not have a bathroom handy.... so you pee on a tree. It's not a big deal really. Trust me there are so many fertilizer chemicals on the ground at a golf course that a little urine isn't making much difference.

Absolutely.. Big Jack isn't letting that bum play the big course!

On another note, looks like Ben still has the posse and the booze. You would think he's learned by now that he is in the crosshairs of the media and the public not to mention Goodell's. It's only a matter of time before there is another incident and he crashes and burns. I can hardly wait.

Why is it that every animal in the animal kingdom gets a pass on this except humans? We even run around picking up poo from dogs off the ground and carry it with us and Fido gets a "Good boy" and milk bone for moving his bowels. Guys pee on trees and women get disgusted. (I think its just jealousy of the good Lord's plumbing job)

That was my exact thought as well......you KNOW you're under the magnifying glass and that your behavior may dictate how much longer you can live the life of Riley by playing a game, don't put yourself in this situation.

Especially in Ohio where there are Browns fans watching and waiting to report your dumb ass.

Right, I mean God forbid if the man goes golfing and someone IN HIS GROUP pees on the golf course.. Like Ben is responsible to another person's bladder functions?

PITTSBURGH -- Police in Dublin, Ohio, have confirmed they investigated a complaint that a member of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s golf foursome was caught urinating behind a tree while hitting the links, according to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLive.

However, Dublin police said they didn’t issue any citations after investigating the alleged incident, the Trib reported. The female property owner didn't want to press charges.

Roethlisberger was not the person seen urinating Thursday afternoon between the 17th and 18th, holes and the country club agreed to handle the matter by reminding members to use restrooms, according to the police.

An earlier report on ProFootballTalk.com suggested Roethlisberger might have been the culprit, but that appears to not have been the case.

A source close to Roethlisberger confirmed with the site that he was golfing in Columbus but that it wasn’t the QB who urinated under a tree, rather another in the group.

Currently, Roethlisberger is serving a four to six game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. A 20-year-old Georgia college student accused Roethlisberger earlier this year of sexually assaulting her. No charges were filed against him.

Also not out of the question that one of his goons didn't take the fall for him.

I admit that this reeks of people just wanting to pile on Big Ben.

Still, the guy is just too dumb to leave home unless its for something Steelers related.

In Ben's defense, this is some trumped-up stuff, for sure.

OTOH, this kind of stuff didn't happen before the (alleged) sexual improprieties came to light... so, in some ways, he's still responsible for the attention being heaped upon him.

If he's smart, he'll do everything necessary to keep stuff like this out of the papers. Given his notoriety, that pretty much translates into hiding out in a monastery until he's allowed back onto the field.

If this was a golfing party that included Joe Montana or Drew Brees, the citizen's phone call most likely wouldn't have happened at all.

This incident may have been unfair and trumped up, but let's be honest here... the only one who originally placed the target on BR's back is BR himself. What's happening to him now is what's known as 'natural consequences.' He's GOTTA know that he's a marked man right now... and it's important to let this reality govern his behavior.

no more bars
no more booze
no more bimbos

If he wants all this to go away, he's going to have to 'do his time' whether he likes it or not.

I never thought I'd say this about a 2-time SB winner, but:

...sux to be him.

I think that he should be taken out and flogged just for having one of his party peeing on the greens .......

Then again, I think that he should be beaten just for breathing .....

Unless you're the tree.

I concur with everyone who's had to whiz on the course. Done it every time I've gone golfing. There's nothing wrong or unusual about it what-so-ever. Unless, that is, you're Big Ben. Then it's a disgusting vulgar display of his typically inappropriate behavior and so his suspension should be increased to eight games because of it.
