He also says we are looking at Ramon Sessions. I'd take a chance on him. His contract is very reasonable, and he seems to be expendable in Minnesota now. Can't say I've seen much of him, but hoopshype says he is "quite a playmaker" and "unselfish." Sounds perfect for Scott's up tempo offense.

Eh, I thought that was a bit weak. Wouldn't say he really ripped into LBJ, seemed more like Cleveland bashing to me.

Agreed, very weak.

I do like that LBJ was booed upon the announcement of his name.

I did like the part about "Don't feel too bad Cleveland. Literally every franchise that has ever won an NBA Championship has done so without Lebron".

I do think, though, that ESPN will have an orgy should Miami win an NBA championship ..... even if Lebron only scores 3 points in the series. They will point to a dismantled roster and proclaim hos he could never have won with that supporting cast ..... and all of the usual BS ........

Makes me glad that I do not have cable anymore, and that I do not watch ESPN.

One thing I've come to notice over the past week or so is that Stuart Scott either takes himself way too seriously, or that he has ZERO sense of humor. Granted I'm tired of him from his "knee-pad" coverage of LeDouche, but did anyone else notice him last night during the opening monologue? The cameras showed him twice and he looked horrendously unimpressed by what was going on around him. No laughter, no smile. What a pompous you-know-what.

Guess I'll keep an "eye" out for him during football season to see if he's changed.

Despite such evidence to the contrary, LeBron James seems to think he needs a ring to change his life and secure his legacy. Maybe he'll get one, maybe he won't, but it's probable that no amount of rings will ever remove the stench he wallowed in last week. LeBron may yet find that in the court of public opinion, just as putting on a tux can’t make a guy a gentleman, winning a ring can’t make one truly a champion.

- Bryant Gumbel

I'm completely shocked this came out of Gumbel's mouth.

Thanks BG. I'm glad you didn't take the Steven A Smith and Stewart Scott route.

i can't stand stuart scott. he always comes off as arrogant. i hate when he goes on mike and mike and spews out his worthless opinion. just get back to reporting the scores and saying boo-yeah. that's about all you're worth.

i find it funny he was defending lbj. he knows the decision will go down in sports history as one of the worst ideas ever, and he was just trying to save face.

seems like he wants to be the next bryant gumbel, but nobody will ever take him seriously since he coined the most worthless sporstcenter phrase "BOO YEAH!"

and nobody ever will. which i think is awesome cause the guy sucks.

What aggravated me so much about Stu Scott was how he fawns over the fact LBJ's commercial money went to charity from "The Debacle". If the guy had an ounce of brains, he would have seen that for what it was; a human PR shield made up of children.

a fraction of the money went to that charity. wasn't it like 2-2.5 mil of the 6+ they made?

I'm not sure Eyenga is ready for the NBA or if getting 5-10 minutes a night will help him more than getting more playing time where he's at. But, we definitely should bring him to camp and see if he's ready.

As for Sessions, I have not been impressed. He is not very good in the open floor (priority in Scott's system) and he has not grown his game like many thought he would. He also has never paid much attention to defense.

There are definitely worse options, but I would hope to get someone better.

Are we able to bring him to camp if he's not under contract yet? I don't think he has signed his rookie deal with us yet.

He's playing for our summer league team, but you may be correct on bringing him to Oct camp.

Windhorst also wrote that we were looking into Mike Conley. As an OSU homer its hard for me to be non-biased here but I would love to see him in a Cavs uni.

I am more of a fan of Conley. He can be a playmaker, is good in the open floor, and is a good defender (on smaller PGs).

he can't really shoot, but that is less of a concern if he's just running up the floor and driving the lane all the time (he needs a mid-range game to truly be effective though)

Isn't Andy's contract around $6.5 million? IIRC, 6 years/ $42 million?

That's barely above the mid level exemption, and hardly what I would consider to be ridiculous. (at least in NBA terms)

not sure what the exact numbers are, but i know it was 49m, but some of that was tied up in incentives. so we don't really know the exact number.

Hoops hype says 7 million for 2010/2011

I'd like Conley as well. He'd be a Ty Lawson type for us. He'd just blow past people and just be responsible for geting others the ball. If he had a more consitent shot he'd be deadly.

I hope we do trade for Marvin Williams and Mike Conley:

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2010/07/thwarted_in_bid_for_lowry_clev.html

Some young guys that are talented but just haven't met expectations.

PG: Conley
SG: Eyenga
SF: Williams
PF: JJ
C: Andy

That is a very atheltic and fast lineup, the good part is that we'd suck but be able to grow and get high draft picks.

LeBron pendant now center of police investigation
Woman says she was forced to hand over pendant
Posted: 9:22 PM

By: Curtis Jackson

WADSWORTH, Ohio - Just a few days ago, Vaneisha Robinson believed her dreams were about to come true. As NewsChannel5 and newsnet5.com first reported, Robinson paid $5 for a pendant in the shape of LeBron James' number 23 jersey at a yard sale four years ago.

Robinson thought it was costume jewelry until she had it appraised and certified by International Gemological Institute, which said the diamond-studded, gold jewelry was real and valued at nearly $10,000.

The amateur boxer put the pendant up for sale on eBay, hoping to use the proceeds to open her own gym.

On Wednesday, Robinson said she got a phone call that turned her dream into a nightmare. Robinson said it was Katherine L. Powers, the mother of Maverick O. Carter. Carter is the CEO of LeBron James' marketing company, LRMR.

"[Powers] said that LeBron James was at her house and they wanted me to come over there. They were going to make me an offer that I couldn't refuse," Robinson said.

It turned out the one-of-a-kind pendant belongs to Carter, who claims it was stolen. Robinson said she and her mother went to the Wadsworth house Carter shares with his mother, believing James was going to buy the pendant and give it back to Carter.

"When I got there, LeBron James was not there. It was about eight or nine other people there," Robinson said. "They pretty much accused me, they threatened me and they used their authority to they (sic) best ability to get the pendant in their possession."

Robinson said she and her mother drove to Carter's house in the 500 block of Caledonia Drive in her mother's pickup truck.

"They blocked her truck in the driveway. They told us that we weren't going anywhere until they got that pendant. I was scared for my life," she said.

Wadsworth police said they were called around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night by a woman visiting a neighbor of Powers. According to a recording of the 911 call, the woman heard loud arguing. She said she called the police at Powers’s request.

"I walked away from that. I just kept walking just in case something was about to happen," the woman told the 911 dispatcher.

A Wadsworth police spokesperson said Robinson and her mother had already left when they arrived on scene. Powers was the only one there. She had the pendant.

"Ms. Powers showed me the pendant in question and I was able to determine that it was a one-of-a-kind item and it did actually belong to Mr. Carter," said Sgt. James Elchlinger.

Elchlinger said Carter was not at the house during the incident. A receptionist at LRMR told NewsChannel5 Thursday that Carter was unavailable for comment. Powers was not home when a reporter stopped at the house seeking an interview.

The case is under investigation.

Robinson did not call police Wednesday night, but showed up at the station Thursday afternoon. Robinson said she was advised to get a lawyer.

Police are trying to determine if the pendant was ever reported stolen. But Robinson maintains she could not have had the jewelry certified by the I.G.S. if it were stolen property.

The boxer vowed her next fight will be in a court of law.

"There was no serial number on that pendant so it's untraceable," Robinson said. "That pendant is mine. It belongs to me. I want it back."

Wade defends LeBron from Gilbert

MIAMI -- They've been teammates for only a week, and Dwyane Wade is already standing up for LeBron James.

Wade defended the NBA's two-time reigning MVP on Thursday, telling The Associated Press that James "didn't quit" on Cleveland during the playoffs. That was the accusation made by Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert last week, not long after James went on television to reveal he was leaving Cleveland for Miami.

"He's not a quitter," Wade said. "He didn't quit."

In an interview with the AP on July 8, Gilbert not only levied the quitting charge, but said James got "a free pass" for too long. The NBA fined Gilbert $100,000 earlier this week for some of his comments, with commissioner David Stern saying they were too extreme for the league's liking.

Wade said he watched every game in Cleveland's second-round series against Boston, the team that eliminated the Heat in the opening round of the postseason. The Celtics used a similar defensive scheme against James as they did against Wade to open the playoffs, throwing a slew of challenges in the way of both.

"LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant, guys like that understand what Boston's defense was about," Wade said. "Their defense was built on not letting one player beat them. You either settle for the outside shot or you pass to your teammates. LeBron had one bad game in the playoffs. Other than that, he did what he could do with the defense all watching him."

The Cavs lost to the Celtics in six games, but Wade pointed out that in the series finale, James finished with 27 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists.

Nonetheless, Gilbert told the AP, "Watch the tape. The Boston series was unlike anything in the history of sports for a superstar."

The Cavaliers were beaten by 32 points in Game 5, a stunning loss at home. During the game, James appeared distracted and disinterested, often glaring at Cleveland's coaches as the Cavs tried to foul to get back into the game in the second half. James also made some puzzling postgame comments, saying he had "spoiled" people with his play over seven seasons.

In that Game 5 loss to Boston, James scored 15 points on 3-of-14 shooting.

In Game 6 against Boston, even as now-former Cavs coach Mike Brown tried to get his players to foul as time was winding down, James appeared to wave him off, seeming almost resigned that the season was ending and there was nothing Cleveland could do at that point. Gilbert also said he believes James quit on the Cavs in Game 6 of their series in 2009 against Orlando.

"I don't see where you can get where he quit," Wade said. "He just had one bad game. It happens. Kobe had a bad game in the Finals. They won. It didn't matter. LeBron's teammates didn't help him out that game and it made the way he played even worse. But he's not a quitter. He didn't quit."

As James pointed out in his welcome-to-Miami event on July 9, Bryant made only 6 of his 24 shots in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against Boston, which his Los Angeles Lakers won anyway for their second straight NBA title.

"He knew he had help and guys came through for him," James said last week of Bryant's Game 7 showing in the Finals.

James was the subject of countless jokes during Wednesday's ESPY Awards, and Wade saw the humor in some of them. Others, however, had him bristling.

"You get defensive with things like that," Wade said. "He's a good friend. You understand people say it because it's a hot topic. They wanted people to react in a positive way or a negative way, just because it's a hot topic to talk about. It's a punch line. They just wanted to have something to do with it. They wanted to feel involved in some way."

If I'm reading this correctly, Carter had his mom get the pendant back for him?

Really?

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

No, you read that incorrectly ... Carter had his mom hold a woman and her mother against their will, and intimidated them into getting the pendant back.

Man, it only took a week around LeBron for Dwyane Wade to start talking about himself in the third person.

Well I guess the dream of gettin gMarvin Williams for nothing from the Hawks is over. Windhorst reported that talks are all but dead, with neither side very interested anymore.

wow, lebron must be one cheap ass, his top guy can't even live out on his own?

and lolz @ dwyane wade. if he says lbj didn't quit, then he obviously didn't quit.

the fact that he feels he needs to make a statement about this, makes me feel even more confident that he did quit, and that dwyane wade probably had something to do with it.

Must be a new street because Caledonia in Wadsworth comes up but it's just a stub in a new neighborhood.. the houses are pretty nice. My guess is he owns the house and mom moved in with him... not that it matters.

Not only does he say he didn't quit, he also says he won't quit.. well, duh, of course he won't quit now.

I think he and LeBron thought there would be a little bit of backlash but a whole lot more love for this teaming of stars and that everybody would be excited and that they would just go ahead and ship the 2011 NBA championship trophy to southbeach so they could get the case ready for it.

Instead the venom came out against LeBron, a lot more of it stuck than they expected.. it's not just Cleveland fans and NY fans that think what he did sucked ass, the national media has been all over him... they've used words like "quitter" "coward" "immature" "support player" and they've said this knocks him back down a few rungs in his quest to be the next Jordan.. honestly I think the size and scope of the reaction against LeBron suprised them both quite a bit.... and that is the reason he is trying to defend him.

I also think they are probably suprised that most in the national media are finding holes in the team, questioning whether they can be as good as people think, etc...
