Magic weighs in on Lebron ...... http://www.cleveland.com/lebron/index.ssf/2010/07/magic_johnson_on_lebron_beat_y.htmlMagic Johnson on LeBron: Beat your rivals, don't join them Magic Johnson said he never would have joined with Larry Bird to win a championship the way LeBron James is teaming with Dwyane Wade. Johnson, who won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, joins fellow Hall of Famer Michael Jordan in saying they would focus more on beating their rivals than joining them. "We didn't think about it 'cause that's not what we were about,” said Johnson, whose Michigan State squad beat Bird's Indiana State team in the 1979 NCAA title game. "From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird.”

Ha ha ha....they all keep piling on him. For a guy that always pretended to be a student of the game and respect his elders, I wonder what he thinks about how they're all coming out to crack on him.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”

Which is why that was the golden era of the NBA and it may never get back to that level... for me anyway.

it may also never get back to that level because of the raw talent that was there. just take a look at any of these top15 alltime lists we are throwing around. half is from that 80's / early 90's era

IIRC, in the days of Magic, underclassmen could not declare for the NBA draft. (Edit: Except for hardship)
I think that players having the benefit of more than 1 year in college, plus many of them actually finishing their college degree programs helped "mature" the league a bit. A college player played against better players for a longer period of time and that would improve his game. It would also help a player develop a more rounded overall game.
I think that allowing underclassmen into the NBA draft really hurt the overall development of college players. (and not just those who leave early)

I don't think that's true.. we had LeBron, Wade, Melo, Bosh, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and a few others all come into the league at about the same time.. but rather than compete on different teams like Magic, Bird, Jordan, Dr J, Isaih, etc.. these guys want to team up to build "super teams"... which is sad...

Good. I hope this really starts to bother LBJ over the course of his career even if he does win 3+ championships.
Has Larry Bird said anything in regards to LBJ?

I don't know. But if he were smart, he'd keep his mouth shut because if he said anything negative about james he'd be labeled a racist by many people on here.

I wonder ... when ESPN is in bed with Lebron, does he hog the sheets or does he give them a little corner to use?

my guess is he hogs the covers then wines about the space they're taking on the bed. Then criticizes then for not having the foresight to get a bigger bed like the Heat did for him.
"The medium for the bad news was ESPN, which figured. The network represents much of what is loud, obnoxious and empty in sports today."

I'm waiting for Russell. Some media guy has got to get him on tape on this thing. Russell is always biting (but fair). He'd tear Lebron a new one if someone could get him to open up on how he really felt about all this (and I think he'd spend more time on Wade and Bosh than the others do as well).

Even though they bought the exact bed he told them to buy.

so wait, a guy who built a dynasty, and won 6 straight titles is jelous of 3 "superstars" with one combined ring, joining forces?
lolz @ espn and lolz @ colin cowherd. seriously i lost all respect for that guy when he said the only good football games are high scoring ones.
typical bspn. it's all about high scoring, stats, and taking your talents to the beach.

is anyone else hoping that the heat don't win the championship, squarely for the moment where lebron tries to throw the blame at anyone but himself?

The comments from LeBron/Wade/Bosh make it seem like they think this year is going to be easy. As if they are entitled to the championship because they formed this team.
That type of mentality will be interesting to watch in the playoffs against an Orlando or Boston or LA who wants to squarely knock them off that perch. I think Kobe would take more pleasure in beating Miami next year than Boston even (and the same can be said about Boston and Orlando).

Don't sleep on the Bulls either, if they can get a SG they're a deadly team.

Not enough shooters for my taste, but they definitely would be a much better team if they had a couple shooters. To beat Miami, you have to be able to do 3 things (IMO):
1. Bully Bosh and force him to be physical down-low on both ends while boxing out Wade/LeBron from pilfering rebounds.
can Noah and Boozer really do that. Noah has energy, but he's not really a physical force. Boozer is a bit undersized and Bosh might be able to take advantage a bit.
2. Penetrate their defense to either get them in foul trouble or kill them when Wade/LeBron sneak over for help defense (as both are apt to do).
Rose can definitely penetrate, but who is going to hit those open outside shots when they cheat for help?
3. Play suffocating defense that limits fast-breaks and makes them work for every shot they get off.
Thib should do just that for the Bulls. I expect them to return to Skiles-level defense.

True. But, Bosh has 3 inches (and a much larger wingspan) over Boozer.
Bosh doesn't have to muscle with Boozer on the offensive end if he can just shoot over him. Think about Gasol being forced to try to muscle through Perkins and Garnett in '08 (he did a much better job being chippy this year).
On the defensive end, Bosh can focus on angles to force tough shots instead of worrying about keeping "tight"

A crazy idea just popped into my mind. Seems to be a reocurring thing I know sue me 2 years from now we could do what Miami did, except we'd be offering guys less money. We could go after CP3, Dwight and G-Force (Gerald Wallace). If I did my math correctly the max we could offer is 5 years 65 mil. You guys probabally think theres no way they'd take a cheap contract like that. However maybe they realise that Miami is going to dominate the east for awhile they might decide to sign with us and join forces. G-Force would be 29 Dwight would be 26 CP3 would be 27 Our starting lineup would be CP3 ?????? Maybe Mo resigns for a MLE ?????? G-Force Andy/JJ Dwight

Bosh lists at 6'10", Boozer at 6'9". Even with the greater wingspan, no way Bosh shoots over Boozer all game long with any sort of FG percentage that could be considered good. On D, I imagine Boozer will be aggressive enough to just go through Bosh and draw fouls. That's how he plays. Sorry. Bosh is soft. Boozer isn't.

Not to mention in two years there will be a different labor agreement and checks will be put in place to prevent what just happened. This is going to end up being a one time thing in the history of this sport. They used the system to get a huge advantage.

The "warm-up" lines will probably consist of three players, ESPN, and a lot of knee-pads.

I heard something on the radio earlier about some wrestler from Cleveland also blasting Lebron for leaving. It's pretty bad when even the fake sports get involved. At this rate we'll start hearing from Senators and Congressmen next.

Agreed that Bosh is soft and Boozer is not (other than being a baby about injuries).

Chris Paul wants out. Before you get excited, he wants to "follow the LeBron example" and team with another superstar in Orlando, LAL or the Knicks. Personally, I hope NO takes the Laker model from Kobe's pout and tells him to shut up and play (of course they got bailed out with the Gasol trade 7 months later). Chris Paul has 2 years left on his deal. I'd make him play out every single freaking game unless I got a deal that I couldn't pass up. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/13659617/new-hornets-brass-already-facing-crisis-with-paul

I'm just basing my numbers off what's given at NBA.com. Boozer listed at 6'9", 266, Bosh at 6'10", 230.

i believe he has one year left with a player option. i think he's probably gone. miami will find a way to bring him aboard or he's gonna go do what miami did with someone else.
he wouldn't come to cleveland unless we had something established. right now our only selling point is byron scott. and he hasn't coached one game for the cavs yet.
the cavs ain't gonna get anyone to come there for a while. they are gonna have to build through the draft. and i have no problem with that.
