Browns placed TE Greg Estandia on injured reserve, ending his season. Posted: 41 mins ago. | Source rotoworld.com Browns placed TE Greg Estandia on injured reserve, ending his season. It's not clear yet exactly what is wrong with Estandia. The massive blocker was a long shot to make the team anyway as the Browns have four capable tight ends in front of him on the depth chart. I bet an injury settlement is reached and then the Jags snatch him right up...
See what I did there?

He's a big target who still could develop further so if we can keep him around and not cut him, I'm good with it.
After all Royal simply HAS to be shown the door sooner or later and we need a #3 TE/spec teamer.

He has now since been released. web page I'm waiting on the Jags to snatch him up like they did with Don Carey.

Mangini seemed to give this guy more of a shot than necessary a year or so ago. I wonder who they have in mind to replace him. Before I saw this I was going to post that the 2nd week of July is here, and historically since 99' this is the start of injury season for the Cleveland Browns. This is the start of injury season, anytime from now until the 4th week of the regular season seems to have more reported injuries to Browns players than any other time of the year.

Speaking of Don Carey,, has he played a down in the NFL yet? Just wondering.

Nope he was on their IR all of last season as well. He is ready to go this year though.

I've never figured out who this kid ticked off so badly that he got drafted then cut so quickly?
Anyway, I guess we'll see if it was a mistake to draft or cut him soon enough..

He was waived injured with the intention of putting him on our IR.
Jacksonville happened to put in a claim for him ..... something that hadn't been done in quite a few years. (An article I read said something like 10-12 years IIRC)
The odds were strongly against someone claiming an injured player at that stage of the year ..... but Jacksonville went against the odds. Oh well. he would have been fighting it out for the 4th spot as it is this year. No biggie.

Seems risky on their part, probably wanted to spend a late round pick on him and were disappointed when we drafted him and then jumped at the chance to get him free.

He was a late round CB who was out for the year last year and probably would have had a 50% chance of making this year's team anyway.
If that's the biggest mistake we make, I think we'll be doing pretty well.

Just a quick thought.....just taking a flyer here....do you think this move might be making room for a possible move towards grabbing Harvey Unga in the Supplemental Draft??? I mean I know we might be somewhat comfortable at the RB postion....at least enough to see how it turns out...but Unga definitely fits that powerback mold. 3 1000+ yard seasons is nothing to sneeze at. And there are reports that we were representing at his workout the other day....
I think at this stage, the more competition, the merrier...Or at least it doesn't really hurt us as we should come out with the best possible combination of RB's whatever that might be...
Perhaps Unga deserves his own thread...but the recent moves with Estandia and the DL just got me thinking....

He did go to BYU, so theres the Holmgren connection. Though I would think we're fairly set at RB and I dont anticipate taking a flyer on him.

That we do.
Each interested team would put in a "bid", and the team with the highest bid wins. It goes in draft order from the last draft. Trades are not factored into the equation.
In other words, if we put in a 5th round bid, and no one else bid higher than a 6th, we win.If we bid a 5th, and the Lions bid a 5th, they win. If we bid our 5th,, and the Jaguars bid their 5th, we win. The process rolls on .......

Unga had some nice production but our cupboard is full on the RB side of things right now.... I'd be more interested in this guy as a DLine prospect.
DT Josh Price-Brent (Illinois): In three years, had 71 tackles, 17½ tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries for Illini. Two-year starter has good size (6-1¾, 321 pounds) and decent quickness (5.38 in the 40). Might be a developmental-type tackle for someone willing to spend fifth- to seventh-round choice on him. Declared academically ineligible in spring.

Since you seem to understand the Supplimental draft,, I'll ask you.
Using Unga as an example, if nobody picks him in the supplimental,, what then, is he free to sign with anyone,, or does he have to wait until next april to be drafted?

I just looked up the DL from Illinois .....
Flunked out of classes and got a DUI ...... and is projected as a NT in the pros ......
I'm betting we pass on him.

For Edwards we got two draft picks and Jason Trusnik if I am not mistaken.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I completely fail to see how this could, in any way, have a connection to any plans for the supplemental draft. They couldn't be more unrelated.

We have to have room to sign the kid...now the Estandia move is so we can place him on IR....similar to what we tried to do with Carey last year...but then we added the DL...why now???
and then you have the reports of us seemingly interested at Unga's workout. Just a couple of coincedences...possibly...probably....like I said...it is a flyer...
Oh BTW people are predicting a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Unga

no you don't have to make room in advance. You can draft the kid, then cut someone at the same time to make the room. It happens all the time... the thing is that the transactions have to be done the same day.
Furthermore, it's pretty darn silly to cut someone to make room for somebody that you have only a 1-in-32 chance of acquiring. You get the player, THEN you make the room for him.

good point. plus (and i can't believe I'm saying this) RB is somewhat of a deep position for us, so maybe a 2nd/3rd rounder isn't worth it

Pretty meaningless but... Quote:
Despite their four-game winning streak to end the 2009 season, which put them at No. 7 in a draft with six elite players, the Browns won the weighted lottery to determine the order of the supplemental draft, a league source tells us.
So, in each round, the Browns have top priority.
By the way, through round ones and two, no one has been selected. Things should get interesting in or after round three, the earliest in which BYU running back Harvey Unga would be picked.
The full order appears . . . after the break.
1. Cleveland
2. St. Louis
3. Detroit
4. Tampa Bay
5. Kansas City
6. Oakland
7. Washington
8. Seattle
9. Buffalo
10. Jacksonville

I like how they take a cheap shot at us.
"Despite their four-game winning streak to end the 2009 season, which put them at No. 7 in a draft with six elite players..."
Yeah we should have just quit so we could get into the top six of the draft. What is the point of putting that into this article? Also, at the time of the winning streak no one knew who was in the draft.

I saw people saying it, and I still can't really believe that they were serious. Unga is a worse prospect than Anthony Dixon, who went in the 6th I believe.

2 players picked in supplemental draft The 2010 Supplemental Draft has come and gone. If you were out to lunch, you missed all of it. In lieu of a three-night extravaganza, the Supplemental Draft wrapped up in less than 80 minutes. In the end, only two players were picked: running back Harvey Unga by the Bears, and defensive tackle Josh Price-Brent by the Cowboys. Both Chicago and Dallas will forfeit seventh-round picks in the 2011 draft. The Bears had the 12th pick in each round; the Cowboys had the 30th. If Dallas hadn't picked Price-Brent, there's a good chance he wouldn't have been picked at all. Fullback Vaness Emokpae and running back Quentin Castille were not drafted. They now become unrestricted free agents.
Joe Thomas made Justin Timberlake change his name. He didn't want wusses to have the same initials...

wasn't Ratliff a throw-in too?
Does anyone know off-hand who we got for those draft picks?
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say we broke even on the trade on Trusnik alone. http://www.nfl.com/players/jasontrusnik/profile?id=TRU694033

Ratliff was a throw-in on the Sanchez trade.
And I think we won the trade just getting Braylon off our team.
