I dont understand how Dayton escaped this list.

For starters, ther is NO WAY that Cleveland is more "miserable" than Youngstown (sorry YTown.) Secondly, I've been to Memphis, and passed through it several more times. It needs to be higher than Cleveland. Thirdly, I can't trust anything Forbes says about Cleveland. They hate Cleveland and have probably never been there. I'm sure their skin crawls in every election when they hear "we're still waiting for the results from the heavily democratic Cuyhoga County."

I'd say they hate Ohio when 25% of the list is comprised of Ohio cities.

these lists are always stupid. i think most people in cleveland aren't miserable. yeah, the sports teams lose and the economy is bad, but it's not like people mope around.
and i live in chicago, and people aren't miserable here, yet top 10? huh?

The list is clearly a sham. Cleveland is, shall we say, "depressed", but there's absolutely no way it's more miserable than Detroit at the very least.
And how could at least one city from the Gulf region not be on their list? I know it's not their fault - hurricanes, oil - but I can't imagine a more miserable place to live over the past few years... and now at least some time into the future. The economy of an entire region has taken two massive hits, I'd have to imagine that would leave me feeling miserable.

I'm sure RocketOptimst can concur with me here, but Toledo should be higher on the list. It's sad seeing my hometown deteriorate like this but jeez it's crazy over here the last couple of months. Theres been 80 arson fires this year in the east and south side (where I live)! As soon as I graduate, me and the soon to be wifey are moving to either Maumee or Perrysburg.

nobody loves chicago more than chicagoans. this city loves to pat itself on the back. that is one thing i have learned in 6 years here.
but it's also a good town with good people, and i would not say they're any type of miserable. same with cleveland. people choose to live there. i hope to go back soon.

Gulf Coast is the one of the best regions to live. I was down there for 3 years, and absolutely loved the area. Great weather all year round, some of the best beaches in the country, and the economy was pretty strong up to the the collapse in late 08. I couldn't believe how many northerners I seen down there. I experienced Hurricane Gustav, which was more like a tropical depression in September 08. I rather deal with an occasional hurricane than getting snowed in for a whole month like what occured this past Febuary in Ohio.

What about Atlanta? The traffic alone should put it in the top 10. One thing I did notice about these miserable cities is they are ALL or ALMOST ALL Democratic Meccas.
