Just had to ask? The upcoming season has allot of hope as has several others but I'm having a hard time getting fired up about this team. The fact that most of us do not like the media is a bye product of losing and not having that face of the franchise.
Is the face Randy Learner? Is it Mike Holmgren? Is it Gorge Kokinis? Is it Jake Delhomme? Is it Joe Thomas? Or is it Josh Cribbs?
Most successful NFL teams have a face of the franchise that is displayed on the stadium and on banners and make TV commercials.
Who has the Browns nation and the entire NFL community standing up and taking notice?
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

Josh Cribbs is probably the only one SOME people can think of.

It's either Holmgren or Cribbs. Cannot make a case for anyone else, really...

I would probably say for the media and outside viewer, Holmgren will be considered the face of the franchise. Let's face it, for NFL Countdown, NFL Network, NFL Primetime, etc, anytime the Browns are previewed during Sunday, Holmgren will be a focal point. Can he turn it around? How is he adjusting? How will he leave his mark? etc.

But for us as fans, I'll add it is Cribbs IMO. Thomas is probably second.

I was waiting for a response as to why I left Eric Mangini off the list. I guess that answers that question.

Right now I would say Cribbs. If Colt gets some field time "I know they said he wouldn't this year" I see the media running with him, same way they did with Quinn.

Congratulations Collector you have the correct answer IMO. There is currently no face of this franchise and the future depends on getting one!

Cribbs for sure. Local guy, plays his heart out, re-signed with home team...
And outside of Thomas probably the only other 'known' player outside of Cleveland.

Cribbs is definitely the face, heart, and soul of the team.
That being said, he's from Virginia and grew up a Redskins fan. I'm absolutely thrilled that he seems happy to be here, but he's not a "local" or "home town" guy just because he went to Kent state.

I think generally speaking there are 3 faces to any franchise.
Cowboys you are thinking Jerry Jones, Romo and Ware
Pitt its Big Ben, Ward, and Lebeau
Ravens its Ozzie, Rey and now flacco
For the Browns its Holmgren, Cribbs and Rob Ryan.

Big Ben the face of the steelers franchise? I would like to think so but even their own fanbase won't claim that now. Ben does have a place on that anatomy though,..you just have to look behind it.

That's probably a good thing. Our luck w/ keeping 'pure' homegrown talent is not so good in recent memory.

No, ware is not in there.

No. Lebeau is not the face of the franchise. HC if any non player.

Again no, out side of us/baltimore I doubt anyone knows who ozzie is.

Nope, its Cribbs, woMangini, and Homgren.

I would prefer to say that the face of the team is Joe Thomas.
But, I'll go with Cribbs.

Teamwork , it has to be that the team is going to win or lose as a team because one player cannot do it alone.
My first thought was
Eric Wright?
but then I thought what about Dqwell Jackson, what about Brandon Mcdonald?
What about Shaun Rogers, or Mohamed Masqaquoi?
Is it the group of players added outside the draft and free agency, the likes of Evan Moore, and Atyba Rubin?
Is it the group of long term personalities in the uniform , the likes or Robaire Smith, and Lawrence Vickers and Phil Dawson?
Is it the stars who score the most points, Cribbs, and Harrisson, and ?
Is is the young draft picks of the last 5 years, everyone from Haden and Ward, to Mack , Thomas, and Robiskie, James Davis, to Montario Hardesty?
Maybe it is the group of players Mangini added in large numbers? The likes of Kenyon Colman, and Chansi Stukey, and Trucsnik, Costanzo, and Maiva?
Is it Delhomme? It may be? He is a veteran, and Quarterback is the most important position in football by some ways of looking at it?
teamwork has to be the face of the franchise, a franchise with unknown stars?
There has to be playmakers though, so I"m gonna say I have to go with playmakers, playmakers from the last 2 years, so I have to say the first name that came to mind
if you want a face a face of the franchise, I tell you Eric Wright.
If you two, I tell you Eric Wright and Josh Cribbs.
Eric Wright and Josh Cribbs, and Jerome Harrisson.
And Dqwell Jackson. And Shaun Rogers And Brandon Mcdonald And Mike Adams, And Evan Moore And Matt Roth. And Robaire Smith And Joe Thomas And John St Claire
And Lawrence Vickers and Eric Steinbech
If I had to pick a face, I'd pick Eric Wright.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I think that having a "face of the franchise" is purely a media/marketing construct. It is not a requirement for success; it is merely a byproduct.
The fact that most dislike the media isn't the losing, nor the lack of the above completely arbitrary construct... it is the fact that the media, by and large, is a bunch of paid hacks that simply pander to the larger markets and carry at best only the passing minimum knowledge of smaller market teams.
However, if there is any singular personality that will immediately jump to mind for most when they think of this franchise - as if that has any meaning whatsoever - it is probably Mike Holmgren or Josh Cribbs. Worrying about who it is, however, is likely an exercise that only someone in marketing would truly care about.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Paul Brown! Cribbs. Dawson. Holmgren. Asked this amongst some barfriends: They said it is the Busts. The Couch, the DA, the Ben Gay, the ones who came and left after severely disappointing. All since the Return. All negative. Sad. Pathetic. I did NOT buy the next pitcher. And I am looking for "new and improved" Browns and better friends. . . .

I would argue that getting one depends upon the future, rather than the other way around. If that's what you meant to say, I'm not trying to be a smart aleck. I just agree with the earlier post that we don't have a face until we start to win.

If I had to choose today I'd say Cribbs is the face of the franchise.
He's the kinda player that makes us proud., Not just on the field, but off as well.

No, you've got it ass backwards. The Collector has it right.
The players step up and start winning first.... from that comes attention and recognition, and from that the "face" will emerge. In either case, absolutely NOTHING depends upon it except some marketing. Having a "face" will NEVER buy you a single win. Having an "identity" won't either. Those are simply B.S. media buzzwords. Nothing more, nothing less.

Right now, the "face" of the franchise if Josh Cribbs. Hands down.

Well, the latest Madden commercials feature clips of Josh Cribbs running the ball, catching passes, and celebrating with teammates.
And if the "face of the franchise" is determined by media coverage....especially over-the-top, commercial adoration---then it would appear Cribbs is......
The Face of the Franchise.

Well at least Mangini is still part of the organization. Kokinis has been gone along time now.

I saw that too. But Cribbs jumps into the arms of Joe Thomas so it sounds as though this debate happened previously at EA Sports.

The true face of this franchise is the fans. We are the ones who the "media" show on the NFL shows. We are the ones who consistently love this team no matter who is on the field or how they are playing.
I think seeing someone wearing his (or hers) Brown and Orange proudly on gameday is really what this team is all about.

I would have to say the face of this team and all our teams are the fans. We are at the brunt of every joke and the ones that take it year in and year out..Long after the players are gone we still deal with it and the jokes about our city ..so when we do turn it around I personally would like ESPN to do an hour long coverage of us fans flicking off the rest of the sports world with a big you know what! We are the envy of what other cities wish they could have..true Loyalfans that will pack the stadium win or lose because we know one day we will be rewarded. Meanwhile sad sports cities such as Miami can't even pack the stands for a world series. People like Holmgren know what winning a Super Bowl here would mean for the city and also know that if he brings that here he will be put on a pedestal in the sports world forever and long after he is gone.
If I had to pick a player who could be the face of the franchise..I would say McCoy will be along with Hardesty..
"Going from 4-12 to 6-10 isn't good enough. I believe we are going to be better than that. We're going to be a lot better than that." - Mike Holmgren (3/15/12)

Player wise it is Cribbs or Thomas....Cribbs with the national media and probably a tie with diehards who know football between Cribbs and Thomas
Mangini and Holmgren b/c of name recognition cast a large shadow over the franchise. Hopefully in my lifetime, it will be a QB
