Eagles cut Alex Hall

The Eagles cut linebacker Alex Hall on Wednesday morning, a surprising move this early in training camp considering he was part of the Sheldon Brown trade to Cleveland.

The Eagles gave up Brown and linebacker Chris Gocong for Hall plus picks in the fourth and fifth round. Hall got folks excited in Cleveland with his pass rushing ability as a rookie, but quickly fell out of favor with Eric Mangini.

It took even less time for the Eagles to decide they had no use for him.

That's because he's not a 4-3 LBer.

That and he probably was not even good enough for the Browns either.

Maybe Heckert is mad that he didn't get a chance to cut him.

Someone was screaming about how the Browns screwed up badly by giving up Hall, and how he was the key to the deal for the Eagles .......

I just can't remember who it was. I'll have to look ....

Well, Good luck Alex. You should catch on somewhere based on athletic ability.

could it be possible that we have a FO that can correctly evaluate personnel and make the right moves?

So we traded Alex Hall (now cut), a 4th rounder, and a 5th rounder for Chris Gocong and Sheldon Brown. Who both will get lots of playing time for us and probably start.

Sounds like a pretty good deal.

That trade never made any scene to me, I was perplexed as to why the eagles would have chosen Hall to be part of their compensation for the reasons you mentioned.

I don't remember correctly... at all, but I thought people here said he was too small to play a 3-4 lber... and would look better and be faster with less weight.

I could be completely wrong though.

I don't think very many would consider 6'5 250 to be too small (or want them to shed weight).

Well, when this first went down most of us thought he'd play DE for the eagles, then they said 'LB' which left us scratching our heads.

Which brings us to him now being available.

Feller was traded for some prospects that we hope will turn into pitchers who we can later trade for prospects.

Wow.

It's been a while since we came out so clearly on top of a trade like this.

Feels pretty nice.

Now c'mon Sheldon and Chris! Play lights out and really drive this home.

Giants claim defensive end Alex Hall off waivers from the Eagles

Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger

Thursday, July 29, 2010, 9:26 PM

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Wednesday the team determined Alex Hall is better suited to play linebacker in a 3-4 than defensive end in a 4-3.

Clearly, the Giants feel differently.

The Giants claimed Hall off waivers from Philly Thursday afternoon. The former 2008 seventh-round pick of the Browns was traded from Cleveland to Philly in April as part of the Sheldon Brown deal. The Eagles obviously didn't like what they saw from Hall in their defensive scheme this spring and therefore waived him before veterans reported to camp in Lehigh.

"I think Alex Hall will be a very good outside linebacker in a 3-4 front," Eagles coach Andy Reid said, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. "We worked him as a linebacker, and also worked him as a defensive end. After the evaluation, we just felt like his best thing would probably be a 3-4, and I think Alex can definitely play in this league and be very successful, he's just got to get into the right situation."

The Giants say the 6-2, 250-pound Hall will be a defensive end - at least for now. They'll likely try to find a way to use him in a pass-rushing role after he recorded three sacks with Cleveland in 2008, including a sack of Eli Manning in a Browns blowout victory.

Glad to see someone show enough interest in picking him off of waivers. I like Alex and would love to seem him succeed.

Why in hell would you have traded for him Andy?

You are assuming that it was him that traded, and not the Philly GM.

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
