I can't wait for the game when Cribbs throws a TD pass to Wallace, Delhomme throws a TD pass to Cribbs, and Wallace throws a TD pass to MoMass... all in the same game.

I'd just be happy if we score three TDs in one game.

I second that LOL.

I think it shows the state of our past couple of offensive schemes if we can't remember when the last time that happened. I think it might've been the Giants game in 2008?

Didn't Harrison score three himself against KC last season?

I think you may be right. The one where I was drawing a blank was passing TDs.

Edit: Might've been that Lions game this past year I think.

Uuuggh, that game should have turned this franchise around. I truly thought that was going to be our defining moment.

All good points, Damanshot. But I also can support the otherside since we are not really thumbwrestling. And it smacks of Rottenhurler too. This mystery and drama is a disservice to the clubs, players, and fans in my book. I have indicated I am strongly for due process and not snap decisions; but, I have bigger problems with undue process as well (sometimes overdue process too).
If some one is wrong, punish these adults' actions and let them stand. This possibly backing off discipline, or narrowing its scope or amount of time or games is a pain for no good purpose. Looks like a bad decision in the first place. His job in his office is to be timely. Right now all wishy washy and long overdue with season opening tomorrow. Clubs need to know, the NFL should set a precedent for overreacting IMO, and the fans want to know. Will a player suit up or not if I am buying the tickets? This time frame is too casual and caters to his office. Not saying totally wrong or mishandling, and Gawd knows the urchins keep the legal end busy with misbehavior. This has all the waffles and inconsiderateness of Favre's string of retirement pressers. Little boy has cried wolf too often and I am magnificently uninterested any further. Man up or bow out. Give the misbehavior its penalty (ONE!) and stick to it.
Much of what we are seeing is ineffective discipline because it has not modified behavior. Not sure what a player has to do to be banned permanently from the NFL, but it must be just their own death. Get serious and clean up some of this. But do it in a bit more timely fashion so that all touched by the decision get closure.

Went up to Berea for President'Guest VIP Friday. Well done! Got to hear The Walrus in person. He is now wearing a golf cart as part of his outfit. I see what somebody said about the need to wear your aluminum foil hats to keep the mind rays in check. This man could talk you outta your momma and your kids. SOOOooo
believable. It was a real honor to meet The Man. Also a number of the alumni Dieken, Mack, Shea, and others.

Get to camp if you can. Whole nother level.!

Is it just me, or is the number of reports of negative plays seemingly lower this year?

It's a vibe unlike any in recent memory. I want to see what King has to say if he stops through. He commented he thought the Browns would win something like 2 games last year after the vibe he witnessed in camp. Of course, we all blasted him, but he turned out to be close to accurate until we got hot late.

It's nice to see so much positive buzz about our team this time of year. I mean, it's always positive in training camp but like it's been noted, there's been very little negativity from a media group that surrounds our team and loves to throw the mud around from time to time.

I'm glad to be reading things about Seneca Wallace impressing in camp, in addition to Delhomme. It makes me think back to when we signed Wallace and he said he thought he could be the starter (or something to that effect) I think Seneca knows that Jake hasn't locked that spot down and is doing everything he can to get noticed. He is hungry to take this team and I wonder if he would make the most of that opportunity should Jake falter with his.

I hope James Davis can build off of his strong pre-season from last year. With Hardesty out a few weeks (or is it only a couple?) that should give Davis some time to really try to make an impact with the coaches. Last season he put himself into a decent position to take the starting job before he got hurt, now... he's in a dog fight for a job, you bet he's going to scrap his way to a roster spot.

I like reading good things about Haden and Ward. Both of these guys will be important to the immediate future of our team and their quick transition from College to Pro ball will be a direct impact on how well our D plays (presuming they will both start this season, and I think they will) Haden seems to be in the thick of it and I haven't read too much about him making many mistakes. Ward seems to be showing off his coverage skills as well which is nice because his vicious tackling seemed to overshadow everything else when it came to the allmighty hype machine.

2010 is the beginning of a truly new era in Cleveland, one that's different than the 'other' new eras before it in that with Holmgren and everything else that's changed in the last year the sense of hope isn't just blind. It feels genuine as opposed to "Well it's different and lets look up about that!" I have a good feeling about this team. 10-6? Maybe... Right now I just would love to see the team start out hot 2-0 or something like that. I think the pre-season games will show a lot of potential.

I've got hope for improved offensive output, with the new personnel I think we will see more passing TD's and maybe some more stalwart running as well. I think the Browns will show their improvement, and we should have a more consistent year as a result.

I think I may be talking myself out of it now. Big concerns at WR and S. When Robiskie is our best camp performer and MoMass looks like he hasn't taken a step forward, that's a big concern. We may not be able to pass the ball ... again ... of course, Watson and Moore could really help ... but we are so thin at WR. S is going to be a work in progress while Ward learns on the job.

Maybe 5.5 is about right. I think we could get out of the gates at 2-0 by simply being the better prepared and better coached team. But for us to get to 6 or more wins, I think we need to start out 2-0. Tall order.

I just don't know. I'm on the fence.

Well, we know optimism can turn in a hurry with the Browns, but I have a good feeling about us (of course I say that most years). Cautiously optimistic, as I call it.
Cart before the horse time: if we can go 4-2 in the division, 10-6 is do-able. We will be better than in 2009 (couldn't be much worse) and maybe we really can shock the NFL and contend for the playoffs.
We need to get our secondary some experience, there'll be growing pains.
Our linebackers will be improved.
The D has to be better overall, it got better in December, and hopefully we continue to improve.
That is key, because we will be able to run the football, make no mistake about it. Our O-line could be quite good. hell, if Jerome Harrison is 'Plan B' then we'll be just fine.

This is another reason why my optimism has been curtailed. Great article.

http://www.sportspickle.com/article:1117/the-9-players-at-every-nfl-training-camp

Quote:

The NFL has 32 teams. But these 9 players are at every training camp.

- - - - -

1. The Fat Guy

Ohmigod! A lineman listed at 290 pounds showed up closer to 300! Let’s all FREAK OUT! Who could have predicted an incredibly overweight person would gain a few pounds over six months of down time? He needs to drop weight – and FAST! – to show that he is dedicated to his profession and his team.

(Then, once the season starts, he can pack as much weight as he wants to back on because no one will be weighing him so it won’t be an issue. And we need him to control the line of scrimmage. So, please, get heavy again!)

2. The Undrafted Superstar

This guy can run and jump like an Olympic superstar. For some unknown reason, he just didn’t get a lot of playing time in college. It was probably politics. But now he’s in your team’s camp and he’s going to light the NFL world on fire. A good 60-percent of the posts on team message boards are about this amazing prospect.

Oh. Turns out he didn’t play much in college because, while he can run and jump, he kind of … umm … sucks at football.

3. The Late-Round Project

Your team got this guy in the later rounds of the draft and he just has a few rough edges that need some burnishing. He could very well be your team’s missing piece – the one that makes them a legit title contender. Surely all the flaws in his game that weren’t fixed in four years of high school football and four years of college will be fixed in three weeks of training camp. Surely.

4. The White Fan Favorite

This guy is usually a combination between The Late-Round Project and The Undrafted Superstar. Except he’s white. And he probably already has sold 5,000 jerseys. But it’s not so much a racial thing, it’s just that … I don’t know … a lot of fans identify with him somehow.

It could be because chances are he’ll be just like them in a few weeks in that he also won’t be employed as an NFL football player.

5. The Veteran Who Just Wants To Win

This guy has been a featured player in the past when he was younger. But now he just wants to win. That’s why he’s taking a reduced role and less money than he’s ever made. Oddly, this decision on just wanting to win coincided with no NFL team wanting to pay him big money anymore for a featured role.

6. The “Best Shape of My Life” Guy

This player has shown up to camp in “the best shape of my life!” Hey, good for you, fella! Bad news, though – in three weeks, all the other players on the team will also be in the best shape of their lives. Looks like you wasted your offseason when you could have been having fun. Whoops.

7. The Injury Comeback

He missed most or all of last-season with a serious injury. But he’s been rehabbing non-stop in order to get back to where he was. He’s never wanted something so bad in his whole life. And the team has given him their full support. (Except for those three possible replacements they drafted.)

8. The Holdout

What a greedy ... this guy is. Who cares if the average NFL career lasts four years and many players suffer debilitating injuries? Take what the team is offering and get on the field! We’ve got the Titans in a month!

9. The Player Entering a Contract Year

See that guy running full-speed past everyone else who’s jogging? That’s him.

Isn't that why we got Sheldon Brown? I was a bit miffed that we didn't bring a new safety into the fold (a veteran safety) but I've got a good feeling about TJ Ward, I think he's a lot better than everyone is giving him credit for. He was hyped with those big hits but the guy is a football player and I think he'll show everyone that he's not just a one-dimensional talent during the pre-season and regular season.

I'm not as worried about the WR corps, but there it's really the same thing where we need younger players to step up and we need pretty much everyone to step up. If Johnathan Haggerty is the real deal, and not just a training-camp-hero that's one less WR we need to worry about getting in. Early reports say he's caching everything that's thrown his way and is grossly out performing Carlton Mitchell. If Stuckey can step up, Robo looks primed on having an emergence in his second year and MoMass is ready to become a leader on this team in only his second season. In my opinion the WR corps is okay, if we need something more we will get it next offseason.

Of course I didn't mean the entire secondary, just one starting safety who's a rookie and a rookie corner who will see lots of the field.

Davis has always ben overshadowed and I agree that he is in a dog fight.
Jennings showed some good things last season and I be leave he gave us our 1st rushing TD & then there is Hillis who is more versatile then both Jennings and Davis, he also figures to play on some ST units.

James Davis is jacked and is more familiar with our offense this year and I am excited to see him in action this year.
We will overwhelm them with overwhelming fire power

I like reading good things about Haden and Ward. Both of these guys will be important to the immediate future of our team and their quick transition from College to Pro ball will be a direct impact on how well our D plays (presuming they will both start this season, and I think they will)

I don't think Haden will start the season @ CB, but that's not to say he won't be counted on and will see plenty of OJT.

Like I have always said, I never believed Ward was the" in the Box Safety" the so called experts (Mel Kipper) and the Media (PD) would have us be leave he is.
We have our own experts that I would put my faith in.
Okay.....T.J. Ward will have his share of mistakes a long the way, but I think that this kid is going to improve our secondary for years to come.
I hope to see the day when he knocks the snot bubbles out of Heins Ward coming over the middle.

You can find some under the thread;
"Personal Camp Reports"

Read only as the thread has been locked due to the train running off the track

I didn't hear much about MoMass early on but lately I've heard nothing but good about him. I agree with you about the safety pos, Ward has had difficulty covering taller receivers and that concerns me. Delhome is another one, it's great to hear about his leadership and tutoring abilities but he's hasn't proven much on the field and he's throwing ALOT of int's

I get you. I think that a season's worth of head-on experience would benefit both Haden and Ward greatly. Going into their second season with a years worth of games played, that will be a big boost. Rookie mistakes will be made but I look back to MoMass last season who, as a rookie, was more or less thrown into a position of importance last season and he made the most of it. He made rookie mistakes, and I will expect those out of Haden and Ward as well, but now MoMass has the attitude that he is going to be a leader on this team and it would be great if Haden and Ward could develop a similar confidence level after their first seasons.

I am cautiously excited for this upcoming season, I think Holmgren has the team going in the right direction.

We could very easily be atleast a 10-6 team IF

1. We have got to run the ball consistently and effectively.
2. be very stout against the run on defense.

I think we will be ok with number 1 but Number 2 is where I am concerned

If this team can have say...a 12th ranked Run D..we could be a 10-6 team easily...if we by some miracle pull off a top 5 Run D..were playoff bound for sure..

if this team has another year of god awful near the bottom of the league run D...then thats where we will be in the record standings...

We have got to fix this terrible Run D..we have some talented players on the D-Line and at LB..there is no excuse and no reason these guys can't swarm ball carriers and keep teams from running all over us....

thats our biggest question going into this season is our Run D..if we can play good run D..we should be a good football team...

Holmgren's decision to keep Mangini paying dividends

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.nfl.com/trainingcamp/stor...?module=HP_cp2

By Pat Kirwan NFL.com

BEREA, Ohio -- Despite the Cleveland Browns finishing last season with the No. 32 offense and No. 31 defense, new team president Mike Holmgren retained coach Eric Mangini, an unusual decision in an era when head coaches usually get shown the door with the arrival of a new front-office regime.

Credit, though, goes to Holmgren, who watched the Browns finish with a flurry of four straight victories, a stretch that convinced Holmgren that Mangini had not lost the team and kept the players motivated in an otherwise forgetful season. Benefits of Holmgren's first big decision is evident around training camp; the construction of a winning attitude, for one, can be seen within the franchise, from the coaches down to the players and all of the support staff.

If Holmgren wants a West Coast offense in the mold of what he ran in Green Bay and Seattle, there is an awful lot of work needed to approach the production he is accustomed to. Right now the defense is significantly ahead of the offense, and that may not change for the rest of the month. But sooner or later, quarterback Jake Delhomme will lead an offense capable of going toe to toe with the defense.

The offense fans are watching from the bleachers at practice isn't very encouraging, but that will change as Delhomme becomes familiar with the terminology and begins to find time to help a relatively young and inexperienced receiving corps.

OBSERVATION DECK

» Delhomme, a free-agent acquisition from Carolina, believes return specialist Josh Cribbs has the ability to be a "Steve Smith-type receiver" and was quick to point out the strong hands Cribbs has to snatch the ball. Cribbs is so explosive after the catch, and he will get a lot more balls thrown his way than last year when he had just 20 receptions.

» There should be at least seven new starters on this team, and that's a good thing. How the Browns handle two critical areas is still up for speculation. The starting quarterback needs to be decided between Delhomme and Seneca Wallace -- another guy acquired in the offseason -- so he can run the team. The Browns are giving Wallace reps with the first team, taking some away from Delhomme. Wallace is a career backup who knows the system and should look decent executing the offense. Delhomme has been a starter in another system for the last seven years and took his team to a Super Bowl.

» Cleveland's defense had 40 sacks last season, but the Browns sent their most productive pass rusher, Kamerion Wimbley, to the Raiders. There seems to be an unclear picture at the outside linebacker spots. This camp has to clear up who the best pass rushers are from a group that includes Matt Roth, David Bowens, Scott Fujita, Marcus Easley, and Chris Gocong.

Look for Fujita to manage the nickel and dime defenses as the "Mike" linebacker. His presence will allow D'Qwell Jackson to play fast and not labor with all the calls. Fujita has known defensive coordinator Rob Ryan since the day Ryan, then an assistant with the Patriots, bought Fujita a hamburger on a pre-draft visit to New England in 2002. So far, it seems like a great reunion.

"Rob always wanted to coach me," Fujita said, "and I always wanted to play for him. Now it happens."

SURPRISE, SURPRISE

»Delhomme said he really likes Brian Robiskie, and could see the second-year wideout having a big season. He also is intrigued by a hybrid player, Evan Moore, who is listed as a tight end but is more of a big wide receiver in the mold of Joe Jurevicius.

All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas said the atmosphere around training camp is much more relaxed than it has been in the past, and he credits Mangini for being laid back and running a great camp.

ROOKIE REPORT

NFL RedZone

» First-round cornerback Joe Haden probably won't begin the season as a starter, but he should break into the nickel defense as an outside corner. During the afternoon practice on Thursday, Haden found out that NFL receivers know how to push off and muscle up a corner. Mangini ensures that Haden will get every opportunity to start during the preseason.

» The Browns have put second-round pick T.J. Ward right into the starting lineup. He showed in Thursday's team scrimmage that he likes getting up in the box and being aggressive against the run. Fujita said Ward is special.

» Second-round running back Montario Hardesty is injured right now but has already made a big impression on Mangini and Delhomme among others. As the head coach said, "He doesn't make mental errors that rookies typically make, and he can help this year."

» Third-round quarterback Colt McCoy will develop slowly and probably won't get on the field this year. But he looks relaxed and sees the field well. Delhomme said McCoy has the best ingredient to get his career started: a desire to learn and ask questions.

EXTRA POINTS

» Cleveland fans are passionate and very loyal. More than 7,000 of them showed up the first day of practice, and they continue to come in droves to watch their beloved Browns. I went out into the stands to talk with some of them, and for the most part they still believe in the team.

The Browns are trying to build on their four-game winning streak, and the early schedule (opening with back-to-back games against Tampa Bay and Kansas City) suggests they can get off to a good start. The defense has to get more turnovers (only 19 last year) to give the offense a better chance. The secondary has the ability to get interceptions, especially when the Browns go to nickel and dime packages.

As for wins and losses, this team should win more than it did last year, but getting to .500 will be a challenge.

Browns sign John Bowie
Posted 2 hours ago

aaThe Browns have signed John Bowie and placed Chris Roberson on IR.
The Browns have signed free agent defensive back John Bowie to a contract the team announced Saturday afternoon. Bowie signed with the Browns back in February and was waived in June. He has also spent time with the Raiders, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2007 Draft.

The team signed Bowie, filling a roster spot left open when they placed defensive back Chris Roberson on Injured Reserve.

Colt McCoy gets a rude welcome to the NFL
August 7, 2010 2:08 PM ET, by Mike Florio

We arrived at the intrasquad scrimmage at Cleveland Browns Stadium a bit late, due in part to a decent turnout fueled by perfect weather conditions in Northeast Ohio.

And due in part to my effort to put out the Great Twitter Feed Fire of 2010. (Currently, we've gotten the situation under control. You may follow us again.)

But we arrived in the press box just in time to see rookie quarterback Colt McCoy do his best impersonation of the team's current starter, Jake Delhomme.

McCoy threw three interceptions during the first half of the scrimmage. One was returned by cornerback Brandon McDonald for a touchdown, who flipped into the end zone and threw the ball into the stands.

The last McCoy interception came on a desperation heave at the end of the half. At first, it looked like McCoy had connected on a touchdown pass to a wide-open receiver. But then the folks in attendance realized that McCoy's team, consisting of the second-team offense and first-team defense, is wearing white jerseys, and that the Browns player who caught the ball is in brown.

Meanwhile, there are a pair of youth games being played at halftime, with both featuring far more contact than the scrimmage, which features no live tackling.

UPDATE: In the early stages of the second-half of the scrimmage, Delhomme has avoided turning the ball over because several of his passes have been so far off the mark that neither the offensive player nor the defense player could catch it.

Finally, an offensive touchdown in Cleveland
August 7, 2010 2:50 PM ET, by Mike Florio

Through more than three of four 10-minute quarters in Cleveland, which I'm attending with Mrs. PFT and Florio Jr., neither half of the Browns' roster had scored an offensive touchdown.

Finally, the Brown team (featuring the starting offense and second-team defense) invaded the end zone against the White team (the starting defense and second-team offense). And the score came from two Cleveland newcomers.

Quarterback Jake Delhomme, who joined the Browns after being cut by the Panthers, connected with tight end Benjamin Watson, a free agent who left the Patriots, in the back of the end zone from the five. The extra point made the score 14-3.

The Brown team's other score came on an interception return for a touchdown by cornerback Brandon McDonald.

Delhomme shines, McCoy struggles in Browns’ scrimmage

CLEVELAND (AP) — Jake Delhomme threw a touchdown pass in his first appearance for his new team at Cleveland Browns Stadium and cornerback Brandon McDonald returned an interception for another score as the Brown team beat the White team, 14-6 Saturday in an intrasquad scrimmage.

Delhomme, slated to be Cleveland’s starting quarterback, threw a 5-yard scoring pass to tight end Ben Watson in the fourth quarter for the Brown team. He completed 10-of-15 passes for 78 yards and no interceptions.

McDonald, also playing for the Brown team, intercepted a pass from Colt McCoy in the second quarter and returned it 40 yards for the only touchown of the first half.

McCoy, drafted in the third round after a standout career at Texas, completed 7-of-12 passes for 31 yards and threw two interceptions. His sideline pass to Syndric Steptoe in the second quarter was underthrown and picked off by McDonald, who weaved his way across the field and into the end zone.

McCoy’s other interception came on a Hail Mary pass into the end zone on the last play of the half. McCoy, who is behind Delhomme and Seneca Wallace on the depth chart, was sacked twice and had two passes knocked down.

Kicker Phil Dawson, who played for both teams, connected on field goals of 48 and 35 yards for the White team’s only scores.

The scrimmage was interrupted in the fourth quarter when a fight broke out between guard Scott Kooistra of the White team and linebacker Marcus Bernard of the Brown team. Both players were ejected.

I try to stay positive, but sometimes it's good to read such a negative article. Keeps us grounded. You keep reading all these good things about the team, you expect us to look like the Colts offense.

But, I have to say that it sure doesn't sound like Delhomme had as terrible a day as Florio makes it sound.

McCoy looked like Delhomme because he was turning the ball over. But I thought that Delhomme didn't turn it over? That doesn't connect for me.

In any event, I will say that I'm not really expecting a whole heluva lot from our offense, especially early. Our defense is going to have to keep us in games.

But, I just can't imagine our offense being worse than last year. That would be difficult.

Cleveland Browns news and notes from Brown-White scrimmage
Published: Saturday, August 07, 2010, 6:47 PM Updated: Saturday, August 07, 2010, 7:36 PM

CLEVELAND -- Quick hits from the Browns Family Day Brown and White scrimmage at the Stadium:

• The Brown team, led by Jake Delhomme and the first-team offense, won 14-6 and had their curfew lifted. They also get to come in later for meetings on Sunday.

• Delhomme hit wide-open tight end Ben Watson with a 5-yard TD pass in the back left corner of the end zone with 8:10 left in the fourth quarter for a 14-3 edge.

• Brandon McDonald scored the Brown team's other points on a 40-yard interception return for a TD. He picked off Colt McCoy on an underthrown ball to Syndric Steptoe.

• Kicker Phil Dawson provided all the points for the White team, on field goals of 48 and 35 yards.

• Delhomme completed 10 of 15 attempts for 78 yards with one touchdown, no interceptions and no touch-sacks.

• Seneca Wallace, starting for the White team's second-string offense against the second-team defense, completed 17 of 23 attempts for 152 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He was touch-sacked five times. His longest pass was a 33-yarder to running back Chris Jennings in the fourth quarter.

• Brett Ratlilff, playing backup for the Brown squad, completed 5-of-11 for 37 yards with one interception -- on his third play of the game by Blake Costanzo.

• Rookie quarterback McCoy, backing up Wallace for the White, completed 6-of-11 for 31 yards with two sacks and two interceptions. But one was on a Hail Mary at the end of the first half.

• Rookie running back Montario Hardesty was seen for the first time in training camp, but did not play. He stood on the sidelines in shorts with his right knee taped.

• Punter Dave Zastudil did not make an appearance. He returned to Berea on Friday, but might need further surgery on his right knee.

• Offensive lineman Joel Reinders stood on the sidelines in a walking boot. Running back Peyton Hillis, linebacker David Bowens and linebacker Titus Brown also did not play.

• Linebacker Marcus Benard and offensive lineman Scott Kooistra were ejected after a fourth-quarter fight. Benard said he and Kooistra still love one another and that he'll apologize to the team for letting them down. Benard also expects to be fined.

• Leading receiver on the day was tight end Evan Moore, who caught six passes for 62 yards from Wallace, including those of 15 and 10 yards.

• Josh Cribbs played one play at safety and said there might be more where that came from. He blitzed and said he would've gotten to the quarterback if it were a game.

Scrimmage winners get some time off

By Nate Ulrich
Beacon Journal staff writer

POSTED: 08:14 p.m. EDT, Aug 07, 2010

CLEVELAND: The Browns signed quarterback Jake Delhomme and tight end Benjamin Watson in the offseason, hoping the two veterans could develop chemistry and produce clutch plays on the field.

On Saturday, the Browns got what they paid for during their intrasquad scrimmage.

Delhomme connected with Watson on a 5-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, helping lift the Brown team to a 14-6 victory over the White team at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

With the win, the players from the Brown team earned the right to hit the town Saturday night. Browns coach Eric Mangini said players from the winning team would have their curfews eliminated for the night, and they would be allowed to arrive later than the losing players for meetings today.

''I'll probably go back to my house and just relax a little bit, maybe grab a little dinner,'' Delhomme said when asked how he'd celebrate. ''But no, not a whole lot [other than that]. My clubbin' days [are over], unless they open up at 5 and close at 8.''

After Watson caught Delhomme's touchdown pass in the back left corner of the end zone, officials reviewed the play to determine whether Watson stayed inbounds. After the review, the touchdown stood.

''Yeah, I knew,'' Watson said. ''We work on trying to get those feet inbounds, and I was pretty sure I was in before they challenged it.''

Official stats were not kept, but Delhomme completed 10-of-15 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown. Watson had three catches for 19 yards and a touchdown.

Dual threat

Quarterback Seneca Wallace and wide receiver Josh Cribbs might be two of the Browns' top playmakers, but they were on the losing side Saturday.

Wallace completed 17-of-23 passes for 152 yards. Cribbs had five catches for 29 yards and two carries for 15 yards.

The White team, though, failed to score a touchdown. Phil Dawson's field goals of 48 and 35 yards produced its only points.

''It ain't frustrating. I know what kind of things we could have [done] out here if it was live,'' Wallace said. ''I think everybody knows that. But we're just out here trying to get better. We had fun.''

Let's be friends

Offensive lineman Scott Kooistra (White team) and linebacker Marcus Benard (Brown team) grappled and shoved each other for a few seconds after a play in the fourth quarter. Benard's helmet flew off during the tussle.

''We still love each other,'' Benard said. ''When we're in the trenches, man, tempers flare.''

Both players were called for personal fouls and sat out for the remainder of the scrimmage.

''I'm definitely going to apologize to the team as soon as I get the chance because it wasn't even about the fight,'' Benard said. ''It was about letting my teammates down, letting my team down 'cause I get ejected and they can't use me.''

Brownies

The Brown and White teams combined for 15 penalties and 10 punts. . . . The Browns signed defensive back John Bowie and placed defensive back Chris Roberson on injured reserve on Saturday. Bowie, a Columbus native and former University of Cincinnati player, spent most of the 2010 offseason with the Browns, but was previously cut. . . . NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith and President Kevin Mawae watched the scrimmage from the sideline.

This is what concerns me about Cribbs as a receiver .....

Quote:

Cribbs had five catches for 29 yards

Less than 6 yards/catch. This is a continuation of last year.

I do expect to see Moore as the slot this year, with Massaquoi and Robiske as the starters. Cribbs, I suspect, will be spotted in on specialty plays, but he is not a full time WR.

Cribbs is a ridiculous athlete. But, IMO, the reason he's so successful is because of his kamikaze ways. You can't do that too much as a WR. You have to be pretty precise in your routes and your reads.

I'd put him in, if for no other reason than it makes defenses go crazy wondering what he's going to do. But I wouldn't rely too much on him being a no. 1 WR.

It's an intersquad scrimmage, the first of any sort of organized work.. I'd say its a bit to early to worry about it.. JMO

It's early ...... but it is exactly what we've seen from him as a WR every time he's lined up there.
