I think this is worthy of it's own thread? If not refs delete/merge if need be...

I visited camp tonight with a friend for the evening practice.

Just some random thoughts...
-They weren't in pads for the evening and just had the orange shorts on.

-The reports on Wallace having a great throw are very accurate. I'd say his only apparent downside is his lack of height and he wasn't throwing against an aggressive defense that wanted him on the ground.

-No show of the Cyclone/Wild-Elf package even when Cribbs and Wallace were both in the same unit.

-Robo beat Sheldon Brown for a touchdown in the endzone on a beautifully thrown ball by who I assume was thrown by Jake Delhomne. I was on the opposite end of the field and I saw the catch made at the last second.

-Speaking of our young receivers, they seemed to be having a lot of fun as a unit. With the fun seems to come a new found sense of catching as the only guys who were dropping balls weren't named Massaquoi, Robiske, Cribbs, Stuckey, or Steptoe.

-Most of our wide outs were also catching with their *gasp* hands! Seems the whole catch with the body mentality is gone. I believe that catch Robo made was pure outreach of his hands where the ball met perfectly as him and Sheldon battled for the ball.

-I wasn't able to see much of the defense as they were on the end of the field where only the media had a good view of observing their drills.

-When I was able to see the 7 vs 7 there was a good amount of fire and aggressiveness even without the pads on from both sides. This team looks hungry to get out there and prove something.

-Surprisingly the music was turned off for the majority of the practice.

That's all I was really able to gather. I'm not some scout or coach by any means but they looked good out there. The last camp I went to was Country Club Crennel and I noticed a difference in the conduct and focus of the players on the field.

Thanks. I like to hear from people not named Grossi. I'm hoping to get up there this week when there is a day practice. Hopefully it will be less busy.

I appreciate these posts (especially since "the action" has started) because you folks are the only sources who describe the Browns' "current events" for those of us living many miles and many hours away. I for one hope you will keep these stories coming.

Apparent is a good word, as he's been in the league and somewhat successful for 7 years now. If it were an issue, he'd not be in the league. After watching him nearly every game he's played in, I was stoked when we traded for him. My biggest beef is that he takes too many sacks.

I went Saturday morning and all I can say is there is a certain vibe in Berea that I have not felt in any camp since the return and I go a few times every year. Its going tobe a fun year!!

Going back this afternoon with my daughter, she is bound and determined that she is going to get to meet Josh Cribbs, so we will see.

Thank you for the report.

I am hopping to make some practices this week and would like to key in on the OL......mostly.

Did you happen to notice weather or not #66 Shawn Lauvao was @ RG with the 1st team?

#61 Joel Reinders is another prospect I am most interested in watching. I do not foresee him starting this year, but I would hope we can develop him and save a high draft pick next year.

Quick observations I saw

-- Lauvao started at RG. It seems as if he may have already won the starting job.

-- Ward also started on defense.

-- Sheldon Brown and Eric Wright were the starting corners.

-- Gocong was at inside backer with Fujita outside most of the time. This doesn't make sense to me, but whatever.

-- Our defensive line looks miserable.

-- Delhomme looked accurate, but he didn't go deep much either.

-- Seneca Wallace looked terrible; he had very few accurate passes.

-- Veikune rode the bike all practice.

-- From what I was able to see, it seemed our secondary, especially our corners, had good coverage.

-- Watson got a lot of balls thrown his way, and Moore saw quite a few passes as well. Moore will split out wide often.

-- Roth is built. Gocong is smaller than I expected.

-- Massaquoi and Robiskie both had touchdowns in 7 on 7 drills.

-- Haden has massive arms for a defensive back.

I really wasn't able to see much very closely because of how crowed it was. I will have some better info after tomorrow's practices.

Really? He seems like a scrawny DB (relatively speaking), from pics I've seen. But then again they are only pictures.

The DL looks bad? Hopefully that's cuz we got some guys on PUP, plus we have an OL that we hope will be pretty darn good. As in, dominant.
I'm encouraged about your words on Lauvao.

BTW to you and the others, thanks for posting your observations from TC.

Excelllllent.

welcome back, by the way.

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I wish I had known you were going to be there today, I would have liked to meet you.

I agree with just about everything you said, especially the part about Wallace and how freaking crowded it was.

But I will add a few more thoughts I had.

Reinders looks like Lurch with a football uni on.

Peyton Hillis and J Harrison are going to be one hell of a combo this year with Hardesty filling in. Even Davis and Jennings looked very good and one or both of those guys wont even make team. We are good at RB and even an injury wouldnt hurt too much.

Fujitas kind of reminds me of Urlacher with his build.

Evan Moore and Watson will be a nice combo at TE.

Mcoy looks very polished.

Robo has very nice hands.

All i can think of right now

Not sure what pictures you've seen but most of the pictures I've seen he looks ripped. His dad is a power lifting coach or something like that. Now, hopefully his strength will translate to being able to chuck the WR at the LOS and his (alleged) lack of speed won't really matter

Sounds like Shawn is being put on the fast track like Mack was last year. If Lauvao can lock down RG, it will allow the team to maybe keep a developmental player around, because Womack can add depth @ guard and RT.

-- Ward also started on defense.

Who was the other starter along with Ward?

-- Sheldon Brown and Eric Wright were the starting corners.

He is listed at 6'3" 263 lbs he must be built pretty good.

Would have liked to meet you as well.

I forgot to mention Hillis. He looked excellent. He was much quicker than I expected, caught the ball well and is ripped. Like my dad said, I think we're gonna like him. We may not see a ton of him, but when we do, we'll like it.

"Veikune rode the bike all practice."

I was there today with my 7yr old daughter and 5 yr old son. We sat on the bleachers near the entrance (they loved going back for more string cheese). Unfortunately for me and them, the whole practice was on the other side of the field. I kind of expected / hoped somebody would do some drills down by us. By the time I figured out that wasn't going to happen it was too crowded to get down there to see anything. We did have the best seats in the house, however, to watch Veikune ride the bike. The only thing I can contribute to this thread is that he didn't ride it all practice. He also threw the medicine ball around which my son said looked like Brutus Buckeye's head. My daughter also asked me if they allowed girls to play and when I said no, there she was pointing to Veikune and his pretty long hair in a pony.

On a positive note we did get autographs from Joel Gamble, Evan Moore, Bobby Engram and Cribbs after the game.

He looks smallish to me. That's why I put "relatively speaking" in there. Am I the only one who sees his photo and think's he's not that big, in relation to his height?

Was Pashos on the bike again today? He looked mammoth on it yesterday. One of our lady dawgtalkers went up there yesterday and took some nice pics that are posted on Facebook....Of the guys on bikes. it's all about getting lucky when you find a seat. She also got some great shots of the greatest long snapper to ever play in the NFL.

They had him on Browns Training Camp Daily. He said all the right things. Something like I'll play special teams. I'll be a gunner, I'll be a ..., He said he will do anything asked of him.

Looking at the pics in that story certainly makes him appear ripped to me..

Good story by the way, thanks for posting it.. and thanks to those that went to camp and reported back... Nice job folks...

Speaking of which, me and my daughter were on that show standing behind Andre Knott and Mary Kay. She had a Kent State Basketball jersey on and I was the guy with a goatee, a season ticket holder Brown hat, and a grey "the only intelligent sign of life in Pittsburgh" shirt on.

Went this morning, my observations:

-Quote of the day: While lining up for, what I like to call, the car crash drill, an offensive coach to the defense "Ya'll better be ready, we're going to open a can of whup ass on you!"

-Delhomme reminds me of a better Brady Quinn. Looks great before the snap, perfect in the pocket, but when he throws it...it's not always pretty.

-Wallace looked very sharp and scored a TD on the 2 minute/ the 44 second drill.

-Didn't get to see much of the O-line, but their was running room and no sacks today so I would guess they would have done well.

-Sidenote: Tony Pashos looks freakishly a lot like Shaffer. Didn't play, so I don't know if their play is the same but...yeah, scary.

-Robo looks like a new man. Massoquoi looks very solid. Stuckey and Cribbs looked good as well. Michell is also looking very good, he's brilliant after the catch. I am not nearly as worried about WR as I am the QB's.

-Saw a lot of James Davis with the second team. He looked pretty much exactly like last year, not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Peyton Hillis is going to be very effective as a pass catcher. Harrison...I don't know if he practiced today or not. Gotta remember, I'm trying to look over/through a bunch of D-linemen, so I cannot always see the play.

-Evan Moore and Ben Watson will be more than enough production for the TE spot.

-D-line is...well, they look like a unit that is trying to give younger guys a shot. Coleman was in a lot, but Rubin was not. The rest were a bunch of young guys looking to make it in the NFL. Never notice Robaire Smith or any other guys who may have been practicing other than...

-Robert Gathers is a massive dude. When people talk about guys with NFL frames, Robert Gathers is usually the guy they think of. Also, Danso is a massive guy who beat the other players onto the field by a good 20 minutes. He was out there getting more work in. While other guys are talking to each other before warm ups, Danso is with coaches, working on getting better. I hope he makes it because his story is great, so we'll see.

-We have a ton of linebackers. The coaches don't seem to have a set group. I can say that David Bowens loves Marcus Benard and has that young man under his wing. Scott Fujita is a big guy and can hit, Gocong is a smaller guy that the coaches are always talking to. On the sidelines, Eric Barton looks pissed off at the world for some reason, never saw him even crack a smile once.

-Our secondary is easily the best part of this team. Sheldon Brown is very good, guy is very good at swatting balls and staying with his man. EWright had a good day and, I believe, picked Delhomme twice. Haden is easily the most physical corner I've seen. This guy blows up the WR at the snap and throws the guy off his route. He also has solid pass coverage and plays in a crouch. Never noticed him being "slow" at any point. Elam looked good, was laying the wood on some guys. Ward looked good and bad at times, so we'll see. Asante is smaller than I expected and never stood out to me. Brandon McDonald seems more focused on dancing on the sidelines than playing football. He did break up a pass today but he also allowed a score as well. I see no reason why Ray Ventroine or Nick Sorensen should make this team next year.

Overall, they about met my expectations. They don't look like a 10-6 team, but they don't look like a 4-12 team either.

you had a good run Hank.

Thank you for your observations big dawg.

The Coach likes to keep a couple of ST players to round off his roster.

Ventrone and Costanzo I think fall into that category.
Weather or not he can afford the same luxury this season remains to be seen.

He's the guy who gets a one year flier courtesy of Coach Ryan, isn't he? We're going to need big men this year with the looming suspensions so I suppose he'd better be getting a crash course.

My money is that they keep him on the practice squad. I just think he's gonna need time to adjust and improve to a level he makes the team
