Nor should he. Phillips is an idiot if he thinks he can say what he did and then act like buddies on the field. Kudos to Molina for not just letting it go.
And I loved the HR celebration "mocking" of Phillips by Molina.

I like the idea of two teams not liking each other. One of the things I like least about sports nowadays is watching players from opposing teams yukking it up while the game is going on.

Agree, Molina should not have just let it go, but was his reaction not 50/50 to being cause of the fight ? I didn't see it,...
I know it happens in pro sports, but there is only one place for "combat."
If I'm Molina, I would have ignored him (like a high school teeneager). Not knowing all of the particulars, that seems to me would have sent a message.
Another angle would have been for Phillips to man up and just apologize/say something nice, upon his plate approach,...but see, our egos are too big for THAT.

It used to be that if you said stuff like Phillips did, you got drilled in the ribs your next time up and that was that, unless you charged the mound ... which I have no doubt Phillips would have done.

And Phillips needs to be bigger than that too. Were I "Commmissioner," charging the mound would be an automatic 25 game suspension.
The Reds are in too good a position - despite how the last 2 days went - to be twiddle-dee-dorking around with such matters. (I personally expect more from Dusty Baker because of his background in the Marine Corps.)

That 3-games series didn't go too well. Ouch for Reds fans.
I'd imagine they would all like to tell Brandon Phillips to shut his mouth going forward. Maybe his comments got the Cards fired up, maybe they would have swept them regardless, maybe if he didn't say anything the Reds would have swept the Cards....can't be sure one way or the other. However, I'd bet it light a fire underneath the Cards and woke them up.
Doesn't a member on this board have a signature regarding talking smack to other teams that might fit here? "When you lose, don't say a word. When you win, say less."

Well this 3 game series reminded me why I need to remain pessimistic. What a major letdown  I don't think the comments mattered that much, although I agree that he should shut up going forward. Right now the Cardinals top 3 pitchers are better than the Reds.

Well he shouldn't have opened his yapper like he did, the stupid ass. I agree with the poster who said in the good old days Phillips would have taken a fastball in the ribs and that would have ended it.
Lots of time in the season though, there'll be peaks and valleys, just have to avoid a prolonged slump.

Looks like the Reds are bouncing back from the terrible series against the Cards. 7-1 in the sixth against the Marlins.
The Reds do seem to bounce back after bad things happen to them, that's a good thing.

That was a nice way to bounce back, raised Johnson's ERA from 1.97 to 2.16.
Michelle I think they were pressing a bit against the Cards. They definitely played nervous, I don't think it was out of fear though. Cueto put one on the DL and Rolen took two maybe 3 cards into the wall by himself. I didn't see much fear..... just pathetic, tight, nervous baseball on the Reds part.

You and Michelle raise interesting points. St. Louis has been the big wheel in the NL Central for a few years, and have a WS title in recent past. Cinci is upstart, not used to contending. The Reds could be (maybe perhaps  ) intimidated by them. Bet the Cardinals were fired up after Brandon's words, that didn't help. In any sport, bulletin board material can tick a good veteran team off and get them focussed on beating the crap out of you.

Agreed, and hopefully he's learned his lesson and continues to mature...it's been a process for him to this point.
Reds win two in a row and continue to bounce back. Cards lose tonight so it's even again. I do think the Reds have enough this year to make it a race to the end of the season.

I wish team well. It isn't easy being a smaller market team who is a perennial bottom dweller. The Indians put up a good run for quite a few years. Hopefully the Reds can stay together for a couple of runs as well.

Big win tonight Can't believe they were able to get the 2 game lead back in less than a week. I was quite a bit bummed after last Wednesday. Still a lot of west coast left, but hey ...Sweep Arizona, then just take 1 out of 3 in LA and 1 out 3 in SF and it's still a successful trip.

What a comeback tonight, I'm impressed with the mental toughness of this ball club. I almost turned the game off when it got to 7-3 and went to bed, but a small part of me knew this team could come back and I would be upset if I missed it. Sure enough they came back, it was worth staying up for and dragging back tomorrow morning.

I'm not a Reds fan, but I was out at BDubs last night, and caught myself cheering when the Reds tied it and took the lead. I'll be rooting for them for the rest of the year, considering my team needs a miracle to even get to the post-season since we're 5 1/5 out and down 3 starters for the year

always remember how it sounds when a Red Sox fan is whining about only competing for a playoff spot (in a year when the team is decimated by injuries).
most here are either Reds or Indians fans. it's pretty much impossible for you to complain and not come off as a spoiled brat

I understand why people hate Boston. 99% of our fans expect us to win a World Series every year. How quickly our fanbase forgets that it took us 86 years to win one. Honestly, even though I would like to win every year, I'm perfectly happy with winning 2 in 4 years....

The guy who covers the Reds for the Cincinnati Inquirer is terrible. I read his stuff almost every day, and IMO he's a crappy writer.
That said, being swept by the Cardinals might have been a good thing. Maybe it woke up the Reds.
