I just figured I would post this video. Its a link to a video interview with Tony Dungy.

In the video towards the end Tony Dungy said if he was drafting for a franchise he would take Colt McCoy over Bradford, Clausen, or Tebow.

That speaks volumes to me coming from someone like Tony Dungy.....I have very high hopes for McCoy..i really do believe he will be the best QB to come out of this draft when its all set and done.

enjoy the video

It'll be interesting to watch him over the next two or three years. I don't expect anything out of him this year. If he has to take a snap in a regular game, then we've done something horribly wrong.

What's refreshing is there's not this constant barrage of calls for him to come in and save the Browns from themselves on day one. I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to prove me wrong on that one.

I hate to be a downer, but I disagree. I've seen McCoy in person, in Austin and was not impressed. When I watch his film, I see a bunch of Charlie Frye type mistakes and gambles that in the NFL are INT's not TD's. I think he has a stronger arm than people give him credit for but the decision making at times in College was HORRENDOUS.

http://www.youtube.com/v/_TOuLhdoH-Y

OMG #5 reminds me of Charlie Frye.

That's a HORRIBLE decision.

#4 wasn't any better.

#3 Equally as bad

The only play that gives me any hope was #10 and #8.

I like him as a person and I am VERY glad we are going to let him sit for at least a year. I think that mentally he has it, I think he is tough, smart, hard working and every bit as much of a good humble Christian as Tim Tebow (who got crazy amounts of hype for being religious). I just have serious questions about even the decision making I see in his HIGHLIGHTS.

however Holmgren will mentor this kid and he will not play this year because Holmgren knows he needs time to mold some of McCoy's habits....McCoy is extremly lucky he got drafted to come here.

McCoy is Holmgren's personal project, and Holmgren will have more to do with his growth then Daboll or Mangini will...Holmgren knows QB....Holmgren I believe will turn McCoy into a viable NFL QB

also you must remember...McCoy is a prototypical WCO QB..thats why we was able to get him where we got him...he was the best QB in this draft for a WCO system....

Let's not go overboard here....

Lucky to come to Cleveland? Have you seen what we've done to QBs here since coming back? Luck isn't exactly the word that comes to mind.

They are highlights because they are interesting, entertaining plays.. making the safe throw, making the checkdown, hitting the guy that's wide open.. those don't make great highlights.

Some of the throws on there are funny that they ever got through the defense... but there are plenty of other nice throws, good pocket presence, good elusiveness...

I SERIOUSLY doubt McCoy is hanging out with Holmgren, or that Holmgren is doing much player mentoring at all. McCoy is lucky to get decent face time with Daboll & Smith. But dare to dream.

Like I said, he does have good qualities, for as small as he is he doesn't have any fear. He stands tall (as tall as he can) and isn't afraid to get hit. He does have better arm strength than I think people give him credit for and the decision making can be improved with reps and coaching.

I like the kid, and I am glad Holmgren put the kabosh on any thought of him starting this season right away because the fans of this city have ZERO patience. I still have big, justified questions about his ability. Honestly, I hope he gets a good taste in the preseason. I pray we don't have another situation like with Quinn, where he torches a bunch of practice squad guys and the fans go nuts.

I think that you're reading WAY too much into a pre-draft video.

Colt comes in with WAY less hype than Quinn did... but the extent to which the fans will go nuts is going to be related to how well Jake and Wallace do against the other teams 1s and 2s.. if they do well, then McCoy doing well against the scrubs is just going to give everybody a warm feeling that his future might be bright.. if Jake and Wallace look awful and Colt looks good, then prepare for your nightmare to come true.. it's only human nature.

I think that it'd be awesome if they just played Ratcliff and left McCoy on the bench until the very, very last series.

I think in our 4 preseason games Delhomme should start one, Wallace should start one, Ratliffe should start one and McCoy should start one and we can say we don't know who the starter is going to be then when the regular season rolls around, the defenses will be guessing and they won't know who to prepare for...

We can flip a coin to see. It'll be a coin flip tournament - Delhomme vs Ratliff // McCoy vs. Wallace in round 1. Round 2 will probably go something like Ratliff vs. Wallace with Ratliff on top.

What genius was using the coin flip before?

+1

It's a good thing you put the rofl Graemlin in there. I was about to give back my lunch. Man, that was a dark time with Mangini. He really made some awful decisions early that didn't help him or the team. I'm glad he's learned from his mistakes.

And no expectations.

It was like Quinn was expected to save the whole franchise when he came in. That's not good for anyone's game.

It was a perfect storm with those two guys and the coaches just doused the whole bonfire with kerosine.

It's sooo nice to have some semblance of organization here for once.

I wouldn't worry about Colt playing this year.

He is on the 4th team. And the few throws I did see him make, I think he completed 1/3.

Put him out of sight and out of mind.

Which I'd have no problem with.

Let the young man just soak it all in for a year or two.

Besides, if we're down to our 3rd string QB, we've had some pretty major issues.

Dungy is not known to be a QB guru, so I take this with a grain of salt. Even though it is cool to hear him say it.

Personally, I hope we dont find out if he is good this year, I actually see him as a amazing backup. I hope we lose some games so we can get a top QB and think for a nice 10 year run.

But we will see wont we. Amazing pick though for the 3rd round.

Pfff Dungy, he drafted Trent freakin Dilfer and Shaun King. The only thing he knows about QBs is that Peyton Manning is the boss.

Did Dungy draft them or did Dungy just inherit them from his GM? I'm curious because I don't know..

Im not sure who had final say in Tampa those years, but as HC I would certainly think he could have nixed the pick had he wanted to.

One of the real reasons I like to post on this board is because I like to be with the best. I am proud to know that I am posting with people who know more about football than Holmgrten AND Dungy. WOW! I don't know how they ever got to the level of head coach in the NFL.

not really gonna put my feelings for Colt McCoy out there like I did Quinn...

I do think he will get some playing time this year though. I hope that I'm wrong.

I agree. Being a QB in Cleveland is like being like walking on the surface of the sun... ends quickly and painfully. The longest any QB has survived since "the return" was Tim Couch and that was only because of where he was drafted and how much money he was given.

I look at Donovan McNabb and think, "if he was drafted by the Browns, he would have been out of the league by 2004."

Jeff Garcia was the top rated QB free agent when he signed with the Browns. In Cleveland, "he" was horrible. He later led the Eagles deep into the playoffs.

Had Brady Quinn (I was never high on him) been drafted by a different team... his career could be very different by now.

Cleveland is a QB wasteland. No QB in their right mind wants to come to Cleveland.

I think it's because folks see a plan and a structure being put into place... one that's aiming for balance and an increased level of ability on the field. Well.... that's the reason I'm at least calm right now.

I think folks see the vet QB, the RB depth, and don't feel the same panic we've all known in the past.

No QB controversy in in Berea probably hass something to do with it, too.

Maybe folks really are taking a wait/see attitude this time.

You probably don't get Rizzo ( 850 AM ) where you live but after the 1st practice Hammer wants Delhome out and Colt in. He wasn't the only one.

Good edit.

Quinn will be the guy who runs to get Tim Tebow a ham sandwich for lunch.
