I see it as nothing more than he just didn't want to go to camp.
It would explain the timing completely. He came back the same exact day last year too. He couldn't come out and say "So you suckers go work your butts off in Training Camp and I'll see you after Camp breaks." No way.
This is the only way to miss camp. Waffle, waffle, waffle - oh ok...I"M BACK!
He has apparently never participated in the "team stuff" like hotel room sharing etc. He requires better than that. This is from a buddy with a family member in the Jets organization. They HATED him there.

Some people are blinded by his little game. They really think he was hurt or undecided. If he would admit this was purely just a way to get out of training camp, his supporters would have to swallow the fact he's a lazy teammate that thinks he's above everyone else on the team (playing up the prima donna angle even more). And his fans don't like the prima donna angle...they think he's a "man's man football player, tough as nails, just out there having fun, a gamer in every sense of the word". It doesn't fit his image to admit what he actually is.
A self-obsessed, media whore, me-first teammate that tends to choke in the playoffs.

Jackson has been getting crapped on by this organization for two years now, if anyone deserved to request a trade, I would say it is him. Why play for a team that has no confidnce in you and leads you on while a prima donna 40 year old who's last three seasons ended with an INT, and has one ring to show for all his years in the league, creates all this media hype.

Tavaris Jackson has the worst mechanics in the NFL. His footwork is the worst I've ever seen from an NFL QB. There is a 0.0% he will ever become a consistent winner IMO.

Who cares if the man misses part of training camp at this point in his career anyhow. I don't think his team mates care so long as he comes back.

j/c You know, I find this entire thread so funny. If the media didn't hound Favre for an answer, would he say anything? The media are the one's who are making a circus out of it. No media, no circus. But they consistantly talk about it, hound him for answers and await every sentence he says. Are the quotes they state that we don't even hear from his mouth even accurate? Yep, the media creating a circus out of it all is Brett's fault. Now enter the Vikings. Did they draft a first round QB during the off-season? No they didn't. They choose to play cat and mouse with Favre. They chose to let themselves be in the position they are in, not Favre. Did anyone ever stop to think that each off-season Brett REALLY isn't sure about wheather he is coming back next season? That at his age it's a serious question he must ponder? The only accurate thing that's been said in this thread that I see as holding any merrit is.....Brett is too old for the two a days and isn't going to do that. So you sit here and blame him for the media creating a circus out of this year in and year out. And go ahead and blame him for the Vikings putting themselves in this position. But that's all pretty silly. In all honesty, the deal about him coming back could have been already worked out between him and Childress as soon as last season ended and both knew he was coming back all along. Why else would an organization not try to seriously address the QB position otherwise? Favre could have easily told Childress he was going to come back but would not announce it until after training camp because of his age so the Vikings had no need to address the QB issue or make a serious effort to address it in the draft. Am I trying to state this as fact? Certainly not. But it makes a lot more sense than some of the drivel I've been reading in this thread. jmho

Point(s) well taken,...  But I never blamed the media, or Farve, or Childress. There's plenty of cat and mouse to go around. Farve's age is definitely a factor; it's just that every year, he plays the card so he can skip camp. Maybe the Vikings didn't feel the need to draft a QB with what they have - I'm not on a need to know basis there,.... Not arguing or placing blame,...I just want to see the rigamaroll go away.

Wow. It makes me really glad we signed a "washed-up" vet who is a real pro QB. The lack of drama has been refreshing. I enjoy watching an old-fashined team melt down occasionally, when it's not my Browns. There's nothing wrong with a little bread and circus some times.

For what it's worth, just a couple of quick points
1. it's the sports medias job to get answers.. to that end, they are doing thier jobs by asking Brett Favre if he's coming back
2. Remember, Favre set the stage for all these questions by retiring and unretiring several times. he created the circus by his own actions.
If he'd have stayed retired the first time, nobody would be asking him if he was returning this time. he did this to himself... His actions have made him look like a baffoon. Very talented, but still a baffoon.
I don't know if the quotes attibuted to Favre are accurate or not. And it doesn't matter anymore. It did matter at one time,,,, but after so many false starts by Favre,, what he says doesn't mean much.
If you have read any of my posts concerning the media, you know I'm not one of thier biggest fans.. in fact, I'm very much for having them all strung up by thier toes. But Favre has done this to himself.. he's to blame..
that's my 2 cents.. make of it what you will.

The circular part of that argument is this.. if people didn't clamor for the news, respond to the blogs, read the articles, etc.. would the media still need to ask? There are many players who quietly retire each year and are not hounded, because nobody cares.. so yes it is the medias job to ask the questions and get the answers but in the end, they go after answers to the questions that WE WANT ANSWERED.. So there is a circular blame going on. Favre invited a lot of this with his actions over the last few years.. the fans invite this with their insatiable curiosity to all things Favre... the media invites this because of their fawning and constant attention... Who started it and who is at fault "more"? I don't know.. I would argue that Favre started it with his retiring, his unretiring, his holding the Packers hostage a few years ago, etc.. he definitely started it.. as for who is more responsible for keeping it alive.. well that blame needs to be spread around.

Every blog, news article, etc.. out there these days has hit counting built into it.... the news outlets have real-time data on just what stories are getting how much action, and which ones are tapering off. If one spikes big time, you can bet that there will be a follow up to it to try to recapture that interest spike.. and so on and so on.
When the sheeple stop following the story, the story will stop being a story.

jc Now I'm far more in tune with all but one of those responses! It's an "instant society" which helps fuel the media. They want the info and want it now. As for myself, I don't give a crap about any Favre news until AFTER pre-season is over. My point was "The Brett Favre Watch" type thing the media does every off-season now caters to a sector that honestly believes everything reported about Favre BEFORE the pre-season is over. I mean honestly, how can people get all worked up about the same re-run every year? Logic; 1. We see Brett flip flop every off-season. 2. We know he isn't going to go through the two a days. 3. We all know, as with everyone, he wants the most money he can get for his services. 4. We all know that the media will hype it and report even rumors about the situation that may or may not have any validity to them of note. So why the outrage and downright disgust of something that's as preictable as summer time coming once a year? As with summer time, the Favre watch has become a national event. And IMO, anyone who gives it an ounce of thought until pre-season is over simply keeps getting upset over the very same re-run they've seen on an annual basis now and that's not very sound logic to me.

Just adding a quick thought:
As far as this year goes, has Favre actually said the word retire? I don't think he has. He said that he wouldn't know if he would be able to play until he knew if he would be healthy enough. That's all I remember him saying. Honestly, where is the problem in that?
