OK ... we have one report that he played RDE, and one that he played against the right side of the OL @ LDE .......

I'm officially confused.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

So he played against the 1st string right side of the OL?

That would have been Lauvoa at RG and Pashos or Womack at RT?

One thing that really stood out to me:

It's amazing how much deeper the team is with quality depth this year. Last year we didn't know how the running game would work because Jamal Lewis was ancient, this year we have an idea that it's going to be successful because of the depth on the OL and the logjam at RB. Last year's secondary was thin and short on experience, this year's is short on experience at safety but is easily 4 deep at CB. Receiver is still thin but I don't think will be a trainwreck like people fear. Linebacker remains to be seen whether or not it's a fight to the top of mediocrity, but it's good to hear that it's one of the most improved positions on the roster.

DL is old, however.

Remember, last year you (and others) were gushing about our improved depth.

That preseason optimism is starting to roll in ... talk of improved depth, a solid running game, etc.

At the moment, I'm not really seeing it, although I'd have to imagine we'll look much better than last year (which is nothing to brag about).

Our first two games will go a long way in what we're able to do with the season IMO.

Right on. Like you said, we see the same optimism year in and year out.

Perhaps the difference this year, though, is that we had such a strong finish to the year (Shep's argument aside that we beat a bunch of grade school intramural teams) that you feel like we have a winning attitude.

I think our offense is going to struggle most of the season. But, I will say I'm excited to see our defense.

I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Sorry I'm getting my report on the scrimmage in so late, but was gone all weekend. I don't have much to add that hasn't already been covered, except that it was a great time, and my first time in the stadium, and probably my last on the 50 yrd line, 15 or so rows up. We had a blast. There's a link below to a few photos if anyone is interested.

Delhomme looked good after the first possession. Wallace looked good all day. McCoy didn't look good very often, and the only time Ratliff look good was when he caught a pass, (from Stuckey I think). I was calling him Ratturd at the half way mark of his second drive.

RB's look good, Jennings and Davis both did well, even though it was one hand tap. Would have like to see how they did if they had to actually be taken to the ground. Somebody is going to lose out and that's too bad, I like them both.

TE's are the weapons of choice. Ben and Moore are impressive.

Wr's looked okay, Stuckey, Robo & MoMass got the most action, at least that I noticed, but there weren't many throws over 10 yards so it's hard to tell how they're doing. A couple times it looked like MoMass and Delhomme were not on the same page, either Delhomme forced to throw too soon or MoMass not turning sback for the ball soon enough. Couldn't really tell which. Both times, MoMass was pointing at the DB whining about the coverage... no flag. Thinking the problem is MoMass unable to separate as someone (Mour?) mentioned. Cribs does not look comfortable at WR, though he did have a couple catches, if that makes sense. I hope we don't need to use him there much.

The D looked fired up and seemed to get pressure, though hard to tell how many of the sacks would have been actual sacks... I'm thinking less than half. Good coverage for the most part from the secondary. McD's picks 6 was a beauty, taking it to the house through traffic when all they had to do was touch him was pretty impressive.

Jake had good protection. Wallace didn't.

That's all I have, the other reports cover it better anyway.

Here are the pics:

yep he was on the brown squads D, which was 2nd string D, and he lined up against the RT, however, I'm not sure who played RT or RG.

Heres how it went, Brown Squad, had first team O, Second team D, White Squad had second team O, and first team D.

Here's a camp report for Monday, August 9th.

I was excited to see Joel Reindeers, but it looks like he was not practicing, not was he on the bike. Not sure what happened there.

The first defensive player on the field? Kwaku Danso. He leaves a very memorable impression - the guy is absolutely huge. He played with the 2nd team at NT but I didn't notice him much outside of position drills.

Coye Francies did a lot of running on the sidelines today - he looks like he could practice soon.

Lauvao has almost the exact same build as Alex Mack. He played on the 2nd team with St. Clair and Womack on the 1st.

One word to describe David Veikune: STIFF. I thought based on previous camp reports that he looked better, but he still looked awful for me. Very disappointing.

I thought Asante looked better than TJ Ward in individual drills. In 11-on-11s, neither of them looked particularly good.

At one point, the Browns ran an option with the direct snap coming to Cribbs and Seneca Wallace running next to him. Cribbs tried relaying it back to Seneca, but it was a BB at Wallace's ankles and went out of bounds.

Jake Delhomme looked pretty good - no interceptions on the day and he had two long completions downfield to Peyton Hillis. The first one was slightly underthrown, but Hillis had enough separation that it didn't matter, and the 2nd one was right on the money for a TD. Delhomme also had a few nice throws to Watson, Evan Moore and Brian Robiskie. Mo Mass had a drop.

Wallace threw one interception, to Eric Barton.

The Browns ran a fake FG with Reggie Hodges throwing a TD to the eligible offensive lineman. Hodges rolled right, through a wobbler, and the O-linemen one-handed it for the TD. Of course, the offensive lineman was Joe Thomas. Un-freakin-believeable.

Asante will be the guest on STO's Browns Training Camp Daily tonight. Odd scene with Jim Donovan - apparently the STO tent did not have anything to drink, so Donovan had to go to the fan concession stand to grab something.

Another odd scene: two people walking around in Lennie Friedman jerseys? Maybe he came to visit?

D-linemen signed autographs after practice.

Reindeers was wearing a boot Saturday. And Francies looked fine Sat too, running around, jumping up and down, really wonder what the problem is.

Steinbach reported as an eligible WR on one play on Sat... wonder what they have in mind.

Thanks for the report... to you and everyone, really appreciate it!!!

This has been something I thought the team should look at since IIRC he was a TE in high school.

Josh Cribbs did come out on defense and blitzed the QB. I think this is something we will see this year,

j/c:

Went today, morning session, so I'll give my thoughts:

-Delhomme, outside of one forced pass, he looked like an NFL QB.

-McCoy looked better than the last time I saw him. Sure, he's not NFL ready, but he's at least hitting on his throws. He knows his limits so far and is sticking to shorter throws.

-Personally, I think Wallace is our best QB on the roster. That's not even a knock on Delhomme, Wallace just looks very good. He has good touch, knows where to put the ball on a long throw and has a cannon.

-Peyton Hillis is going to be a major part of this offense and lethal out of the backfield.

-James Davis looks infinitely better than Jerome Harrison. Harrison looks slow and disinterested in practice.

-Robo is not the guy I saw last time, but he still is good. He catches what is thrown his way, WHEN he gets open.

-MoMass is much more crisp at running routes. It's a matter of time until he'll be a complete receiver.

-Haggerty is far and away the most impressive rookie I've seen. He catches everything and is always open. I'll have to look next time, but he must run some great routes because he's not a burner.

-Watson had a rough day, dropped a few balls. When he does catch them, the offense is like butter.

-Evan Moore is a monster. Throw him the ball.

-Robert Royal sucks.

-It looks, unfortunately, like the Browns will once again roll with John St Clair at RT. That's not good either.

-Louvao*SP?* does not stand out in a bad way, and I really never got to see much of the line.

-Like I said, didn't see much of the line, and that goes for the defense as well. They were pretty undermanned today as even some of their depth did not practice. I will say that if Gathers fills out his frame, he'll be a physical force. Just need to teach him the game.

-Didn't notice any particular linebackers persay. Matt Roth is the thickest, most muscular dude I have ever seen. There is also something about Eric Barton that bugs me in the biggest way imaginable. Benard gets a lot of playing time, and who knows since I've heard DQ went down again. I'd imagine that they'd try and plug in either Bowens or Barton in the middle with Fujita.

-Our secondary looks good. Wright didn't seem to be too hurt, just a hammy problem. After warm ups and everything, he went to the side to continue stretching and just could not get it stretched out. Might not play this saturday, but he definitely should be ready for the start of the year.

-TJ Ward, Larry Asante and Abe Elam all look pretty good to me. Ward has a problem hanging onto the ball on an INT, but Ward looks miles better than when I last went.

-Haden is going to be a process, like most rookie corners. He has it all, he's going to hit people, but he needs to iron out a few kinks in his technique before he's ready to be a starter. Should be a very solid nickel back.

-Dawson missed a few kicks today, which just seemed unusual for him.

-Overall, they look like a 6-8 win team to me. Asking for more is really being unrealistic, shooting for less would be pessimistic.

you had a good run Hank.

Yup and when it was all said and done, it turned out not to be the case come game time...

So, does that mean he's right on track?

Considering that he was not used until he "became interested in practicing" ..... probably not.

Visted the Hall of Fame, then went to camp on Tuesday, for the evening practice. Our first time there and we had a blast. Don't know how helpful any of this will be, it was kind of overwhelming with so much going on, but I'll try to remember what I can.

Danso is a beast, but looks slow.

Noticed two new guys I hadn't seen before #60 Malecki OL and #13 Taurus Johnson WR. Johnson caught a TD pass during situationals and Malecki looked decent for a rookie on one on ones... I guess...lol

Injuries of note: Mass, Pashos & McDonald were riding bikes. Bowens & Davis were lifting little weights. Later, Davis was running sprints with McDonald. Can anyone at all tell me what is wrong with Coye Francies??? He looks absolutely fine, and has since I saw him at the Brown & White game. Shaun Rogers was near the bikes, tossing a heavy ball with Mosley, and generally diddly-fracking around. McCoy looked fine, and practiced.

I watched the offense, as that was easiest to follow. Rob Ryan dropped at least one f-bomb, as in "Let's turn up the f***ing heat!". Guess he was tired of getting scored on. I did have a hard time telling the difference between him and the big red workout ball, so maybe it was the workout ball doing the swearing. Not sure...

They worked mostly on Red Zone and situational drills. Red zone drilles were at our end of the field. Again, Delhomme looked sharp, scoring a few times. Nice strikes to Robo, Moore & Watson. Harrison scored once or twice.

Seneca scored with a pass to Alex Smith. Had a couple bad misses too. It seemed to me that he tended to take take off running too soon, and didn't get his feet set when he threw... the balls went high and wide.

Jenning got all of Davis' reps. He's okay, but IMHO not as good as Davis. He also muffed a punt (or two). Guess he's trying to make STs... not seeing it though.

McCoy scored to Royal (?) and Johnson (?) #13, IIRC.

Ratturd scored but he continues to be most unimpressive.

On D, Benard had a nice goal line stop. So did Costanzo, (again IIRC).

Hodges gets some good distance, but don't think he's nearly as accurate as Zastudil putting it inside the 20. Hodges will be okay, but I think we'll miss Zaster-blaster.

Haden has quick feet, (it seemed to me anyway.)

Situationals were at the other end of the field, so I couldn't see much, but the O was doing well, which prompted Ryan's outburst. For example, they set the score at 28-20 with 23 seconds on the clock, 1st and 10 from the 14 (I think). In one instance, Delhomme scored and converted the two point conversion. Another Seneca got a first down, then scored, then converted. I think Bobby Engram caught a TD pass in one of those drills.

That's all I can really remember, except that I had a great time. I'll post some pics later.

Thanks for the report Cal,

Do you remember what position #60 was working @?

I hope @ center, because we really need to find a good back up for Mack.

I don't... Only noticed him during 1 on 1's, but he's kind of short & squatty, so take that for what it's worth.

Also, I noticed good hustle by everyone, and a lot of camaraderie. They all got excited when good things happened. Especially toward the end of practice. I wonder if there might have been one of Mangini's of "incentive drills" going on.

I do have a pic where he may be at left guard, next to Bender... Of course with Mangini's versatility mandate, it could just be his turn to play guard. It could also be him at center with Bender at LG. I can't read the other numbers, so the guy I think is the RT may actually be a TE (Royal?) Not sure... The QB would be oddly out of position, though. Maybe you can figure it out. I'll get the pics posted in a bit.

Francies has an "undisclosed" injury.

Maybe a prelude to a season ending trip to the IR.

I could be wrong though.

Always wondered what does Pontibrand do during practice, snap a few balls to the punters, place kickers, run a couple laps....?

Yeah, it might be his only chance at sticking with the team.

4) Brandon McDonald
5) Gerard Lawson

Seems to me the coaches are setting it up that way.

I tend to think Lawson has been kept on the roster for no other reason than ST's and depth behind Cribbs. I think Adams becomes our 5th CB, with Lawson hopefully being our last resort.
I think that if Cribbs is not injured, Lawson will be cut this year.
We have Hillis and maybe Davis who can return KO and IIRC, Stuckey has been used (worked) to return punts as has B-Mac in the past.

I think Mike Adams makes the team.. He can play corner and safety... and Lawson can play Return Man and Corner...

IMO, they both make it.
