I'm going to make the trip up to Kohler and watch the PGA Championship on Sunday. It will be the first golf tournament I've attended....any advice for a novice?

Leave your phone in your car. They do not allow them, on the grounds at all of the tournaments I've attended. Nonetheless, there is always some moron who brings theirs and it goes off while one of the players is trying to swing.

You'll have a blast; the only Major I've been to is the PGA championship at Inverness back in 1986 where Bob Tway holed a bunker shot on 18 to seal a victory over Greg Norman. I try to make it to the Memorial in Columbus every year, but missed it this year.

The course looks absolutely amazing! Have fun!

I always wondered if you could do that, golf is about the only sporting event I know where the crowd never brings their own signs

Definately won't be rooting for Tiger although I will have to watch him play a few holes. I'm a Phil fan so I'll obviously be rooting for him, but I also like Bubba Watson the more I read about him and his approach to golf....he is the anti-Tiger which I think is a good thing.

Back to the topic of the thread....can/should you bring your own chair? Is it best to walk the course, follow a group, or take up shop on a green or fairway...maybe a bit of all three?

Don't forget the air horn.

Do you have a favorite player or two you'd like to follow, will you stay at one hole the entire round or are you just going to stay with say, the final two groups?

Please don't yell "YOU DA MAN!!" or some kind of foolishness people do when they want to make a drunken spectacle of themselves on TV.
One suggestion: when you get there, maybe start at the 18th green and walk backwards the entire course; let the action come to you, and besides you'll get to see the whole course. Then, settle in with your fave players or the leaders or whomever you want to follow.

Maybe you could take one that folds up easy, but remember if you've got a lot of people around you they'll always be getting in your damn way if you're just sitting there.

I like to do a little of following a group and sitting at a single hole, especially if there is a "marquee" or signature hole. I don't like to bring chairs as they are a pain to carry around.

Watching it now.... beautiful course to look at.

Chairs are a pain unless you just plan on camping at one hole and watch all the groups pass through.

I usually just walk with a group for a few holes, then pick up with another if i have a grounds pass.

A few times I have had corporate passes with access to their hospitality tent and clubhouse, the tent set up on one of the greens, in which case I just park there for the day.

I have always wanted to do Memorial and Firestone....my wife was watching last week and she said maybe we need to look in to Firestone next year. I'll have to check in to what sort of weekend pass options are available.
