Their preseason package got me wondering why a similar situation couldn't be worked out for the regular season games -- did some digging and here's what I got: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/article.jsp?assetId=P5590122"The agreement also significantly broadens the reach of NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ by enabling NFL fans who cannot receive DIRECTV satellite service to get NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ via broadband. This service will begin no later than 2012." The article doesn't say if it's by Jan 1, 2012, or by the start of the 2012 - 2013 season. Nor does it say whether the games will be broadcast via NFL.com or online by DirecTV. But that the sundays of scouring the bowels of the internet for grainy feeds might be soon over? That's some news to get excited about.

I would imagine it will start at the beginning of the season.

So it ain't going to be free then, it's going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of what the ticket costs I'll bet.

Ya, won't be cheap.
It's too bad these companies can't let us buy the games we want to see....only Browns games. I'd figure more people would buy in if they didn't have to pay for the full package.
It would be nice to watch games where ever my PC goes.....or iPhone (maybe too much to ask for now).

Smaller packages with "a la carte" pricing for individual games would definitely help them, but I think they're too short-sighted for that.
They would rather make bigger chunks in smaller numbers than make tons in smaller chunks in massive numbers.
Personally, if they had "a la carte" pricing, I'd have paid already for Saturday's game as I didn't get to see it and I'd like to have seen the first half.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

I've told DTv that several times... as the price of the ticket has crept up I told them that if they would just let me buy a package to watch Browns games I'd gladly pay them $75-80 for that but I'm not paying $300 when all I really want to see are the Browns games. Other than the Browns I can live with whatever else is on nationally at 1, 4, Sunday Night, Monday Night, Thursday Night, Saturday Night.. whatever.

How many people "cannot" receive Direct TV service?
I bet it's not many.

It's the same logic as pro sports stadiums selling bottled water for $4. Seeing is how we all know they bought them for a quarter, selling them for $2 would mean they go through a ton of them. But they'd rather sell them for $4.
I'm sure they already did the math and figure they're getting more "their way".
Yup, I'd gladly fork over $100 to only watch the Browns. Too bad really. Eventually the NFL will take the rights away from Directv and do it themselves (IMO).
YTown, I can't get Directv service. I live in a north-facing condo in downtown Chicago. I couldn't mount it on the roof and hang 12 floors of coaxil cable down to my 11th floor window (ha ha ha). And we get Comcast as part of our monthly assessments, so it would be dumb to pay extra for a different service (even if I could get it, which I can't due to my location).

People like me right now, living out of a hotel. This would be great for people who travel.

But you "can" probably get it at home.
The "cannot" is the part that I see as trouble.
Maybe I need to plant a lot of trees all around my property ......

Yours would probably be one of the few types of circumstances that would fall under "cannot" receive service.

I read an article a few years ago that said something like 10% of potential viewers couldn't get NFL Ticket ... mostly due to being renters that couldn't place dishes or were unable to get a clear view.

I wonder if you get DTv and you already pay for the ticket but you would also like the computer option if that is going to be covered under the ticket plan or if you will have to buy both....

I would think it would be covered. To my knowledge DTV already has a sunday ticket app for droid and iphones. All you need is to purchase sunday ticket and you can watch the games at home or on your phone.

One of these days - outside of the current cost of cable - we're gonna have to pay to watch any. I'll be going back to radio then (IF it's free,.... )

How many phones can you link to one Sunday ticket purchase? I mean if I paid for the ticket could I link my phone, the wifes phone and my sons phone all to it?

It's in the wording my man.
How many people cannot get Direct TV signals?
I am sure there are some for various reasons, but it isn't that many.
It doesn't say those who choose not to sign up for Direct TV can opt for net service..
If you can receive a Direct TV signal at your home, then I don't think you will be able to get a net connection.
That's how I read it.

It might be a few types but it's definitely not a few people. In two of the last three apartments I lived in before I bought my house in April I didn't have an available spot facing south. The apartment that I lived in before that in Cleveland Heights the landlord didn't allow us to have one.

The point is everybody isn't going to be able to plug in online and the numbers are far greater than the people who can if they choose.

There are at least tens of millions who cannot receive Directv. You forget about urban areas where:
A. Most people live in highrises. B. Most people living in those highrises cannot by code mount a dish.
In Ohio sure most people can get it. But live near the mountains or in a dense major metro and good luck.
I'll bet out of 100M households in the US there are 20M or more that cannot subscribe to Directv even if they wanted to. That seems like a pretty big number to me.

Could be.
I doubt that the number is that high though. High rises have at least 1 side that can "see"the satellite. They are inelligible. I bet that Direct TV hawks this like crazy, because the last thing they want to do is give away the NFL package without collecting the monthly Direct TV fee on top of it.

My condo for instance does not allow for dishes to be placed regardless of line of sight to the satellite. Most newer/nicer ones don't.

Like I said ..... I bet Direct TV hawks this like crazy because they don't want to give up the whole "you have to buy our package to get the NFL" exclusive.
Cannot" can mean a lot of different things ..... and I bet they use every one of those they can before giving someone access to their prize.

It's harder to read the language in this regard, but I am not sure if Direct TV still won't get the reward. I am not sure if Sunday Ticket is a NFL term or a Direct TV term.
All I am saying is Direct TV may not be out of the loop if access is granted to however many people are granted permission to receive a net link..

God only knows how they'll do this ..... but I bet there will be a LOT of unhappy people when it comes down.

New for 2010! HD-quality streaming, Mix Channel and more.
NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ To-Go takes your online viewing experience to the next level. Not only do you get every game every Sunday, as well as highlights, scores and stats, on any laptop or desktop — PC, Mac or iPad — with Internet access**, but new for 2010, you also get:
It would beat the crappy 2nd hand streams people seek out now. But you have to pay for the ticket to get the to-go ticket, so defeats the purpose, but still decent for those that travel.

But those crappy streams are free. Not $300+. Unfortunately, there's no middle ground for the fan that just wants to spend $100 to watch their teams games at home or on a mobile device. Until the NFL fixes that, there will continue to be crappy streams for free (hopefully they get better soon ).

I don't see why people should expect anything other than the current NFL ST pricing structure, except it will be streamed to you.
In fact, I expect it to be more than the current ST.

This isn't live ..... but interesting anyway .......... https://gamerewind.nfl.com/nflgr/secure/registerform?icampaign=GC_GRStraight from NFL.com ...... They replay every game posted online by 6 am the next day. The game replays are not available while live games are being played. It's $39.99 for the year. Might be interesting for some who can't see the games.
