That's the same team Maurice Clarrett is hoping to sign with.

I thought Bell might become a nice player for the Browns. Yet another failure by Savage.

i dont think the motor was the problem i do think that hes was to slow upstairs in learning the offense and that was his eventual downfall

Is it sad that I read this and knew without looking who posted it?

Anyways, I watched a couple UFL games last year. Aside from the hideous uniforms they were fairly entertaining if you need a quick football fix. Lots of guys who spent time in the NFL are on UFL rosters.

Maybe if he spent time trying to learn the defense it would have helped him more

OK what is a "true shot"? A chance to start every game for a season? Come on, the guy was terrible and shouldn't have been drafted. He got drafted, mini camps, otas, preseason, etc.. I'm not sure what else a "true shot" is. He had his shot and he blew it. 'nuff said.

I think that part of the problem with being a fan is that we never get to see what happens in the classroom, and on the practice field once training camp closes to the public.

All we have to go by is the little we see of some players on the field ..... and what is reported about them.

My thoughts on that are the same I have on Veikune (who by all reports is a whiz in the football classroom), I dont care what they do in a classroom, I wanna see them make plays. Hell look at Ken Dorsey, knew everything going on the field, just lacked the physical tools to make the plays. Didn't have it. Make a play on the field, thats how you earn your spot. Does anyone care how Cribbs performs in the Mangini classroom? I dont.

Mangini's defense is famous for requiring smart LBs who can play everywhere. A "dumb" thumper will never make it on a Mangini team.

If Veikune is making it in the classroom, then that increases his chances of making the team IMO. How much can be debated ..... but if he was failing in the classroom, he'd be as good as gone.

its funny..no matter what regime is running the Browns, they have come up short in the drafting LB'ers ..whether it be Beau Bell, David Veikune,Chaun Thompson and the legendary Ben Taylor...
The Browns defense would get a true idenity until they find playmakers at LB.

Chaun Thompson was decent when he was MLB/ILB like he played in college, he just had no pass rush ability. Sadly, he was our best chase tackler while he was here until DQ. He had more strength, though. He just had been stuck at OLB because of his speed and we had the great Andra Davis for MVP on the team.

Remember when there was talk about trying him for safety? I don't know if it would have been successful, but it would have been interesting.

I remember watching the draft with my friend and both of us having no idea who Chaun Thompson was when we drafted him in the 2nd round that year.

He did have a extremely low wounderlic score.

After waiting threw the first two rounds of the draft and Bell's name was called as our 1st pick..... I was sick.

It's not like we could have spent the pick on Pierre Garcon or anything. Nor should we have been expected to even know who he was!

btw...yes my 20/20 hindsight glasses do look like a pair of Elton John shades and my how I love wearing them!

IIRC,.....I don't think we even worked him out and had no 1st hand knowledge of the guy, except for what one of our scouts thought of him.

With 20/20 on our side it's our right to criticize the pick

Garcon was a 6th rounder... so we coulda had him AND Bell... If that makes you feel any better...

6th Round #191 Cleveland Browns Paul Hubbard
6th Round #205 Indianapolis Colts Pierre Garçon

Just going by who was on the board, we took Bell at 104 and Martin Rucker at 111 and Paul Hubbard at 191...

We could have had Tashard Choice, Pierre Garcon, and Payton Hillis.. and still taken Rubin when we did... We could have had this running back thing locked up long ago.

Isn't hindsite great.

I wonder if Garcon has been helped by having Peyton Manning as his QB?

True. Bad receivers are the only thing that kept Quinn from being as good as Manning.

True, in most cases... except for us unbelievably fortunate Dawgs here at Dawgtalkers....

...we had CoachB's insider info to give us a leg up on every other fan base in the NFL...

If you look at the past 10 years, the Browns have been one of the worst drafting teams in the NFL......along with the Rams, and Lions
