Is this a move with the expectation that we'll be without two D-line guys after the NFL suspends them for a game or two?

He is a 3-4 guy, so I would think we are just taking a look'cy. With two vets on the DL immediate further in limbo it makes sense. Who will be cut to make room for his roster spot I wonder?
Maybe Gamble or Bowie (speculation)

I reckon he's taking Danso's spot given that he went to IR/waived

Makes sense to me. Like the size. Insurance, I guess until we know where we stand with Dynamic Duo.

Could be I suppose,, but they did just cut Danso so maybe it's his spot?

Maybe it's because we have zero d-line depth.

I don't know anything about those guys being suspended, but it seems like we would have heard something by now if one or both of them were going to be gone, right?
Shaun Rogers was arrested April 1st and his charged will be dismissed if he completes his "gun diversion" classes.
Robaire Smith was arrested July 1st and I haven't heard anything about his trial.
I'm more worried about Rogers injury then him being suspended. Then again, if he is suspended he can heal up while waiting to come back.

Maybe the first thing we should do is put all of our rookies and free agents through an NRA Gun Safety course ...
And make sure that they dont have to travel by way of airports to get to the class...

Cut from article on cleveland.com: Ivey climbing up depth chart: The last time the Browns claimed a Miami Dolphin, they struck gold with linebacker Matt Roth. Now they'll try to rush defensive lineman Travis Ivey into the middle of the line to find out if he can help. Ivey, 6-4 and 325 pounds, worked at nose tackle with the second defensive unit on Thursday. If Shaun Rogers is idled to start the regular season, Ivey has a chance to stick as a backup to Ahtyba Rubin. "It's nice to be wanted," said Ivey, who was waived by the Dolphins this week. He said he thinks he has time to make the team. "I feel they wouldn't have brought me here if they didn't think I could play. Obviously, I'll get some opportunities this weekend. I've got to take advantage of those." http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/08/cleveland_browns_linebacker_dq_4.html

Obviously I'm pulling that this guy studs out (along with everyone else we bring in, right?), but improvements to our defensive front would especially impact our defense right now. This guy studs out and that gives us two solid guy to man the nose, Rogers can be moved to end and really unleash havok on up there. I'm biased because Rogers is one of my favorite players, but seriously... a happy and productive Rogers makes for a VERY scary defense. Who knows, maybe lightning can strike twice! Also, I wonder if there are any rumblings and grumblings down in Florida at us sniping decent talent off of their roster for free. I bet those get louder if this guy becomes a contributor.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Did a quick cursory search of the Fins forums.
no one is crying. He was cut during the first round of cuts. No agonizing over if he should make the team or not.
Stud out? Do the name Babatunde Oshinowo ring a bell?

He's probably a developmental NT type guy ....... not a flashy type of player.
He's got to become a "plugger".
Hopefully he can. A freebie would be nice, and if (A bif IF) he can become a quality NT, we'd have that position set for a long time.

It should be pointed out that he's from Maryland, one of the few NCAA teams who actually run the 3-4.
you had a good run Hank.
