And you'd have guys who get upset with a coach or system, and then slack off knowing they can't be cut.
They have guarantee's in cash up front and guaranteed money.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

That's why we also need a performance based payroll. Get to the playoffs and get paid,...advance in the playoffs and get more,....

Kroenke must turn over operational and financial control of the Nuggets and Avalanche to his 30-year-old son, Josh, by the end of the year. He must give up his majority stake in the teams by December 2014 to meet NFL rules against cross-ownership of franchises in other NFL cities.
What does him owning teams in Denver, that don't play the same sport, have to do with anything?

The NFL wants its owners to be tied to one city.... see the hubbub over Lerner and his perceived preference of England as your primary example.
If the guy has to give up control, then there is no shouting about he is more worried about spending his money on his team(s) in Denver instead of the city his NFL team is in.

A local radio guy brought up another point. Say a team is 14-0 and the next best team in the conference is 10-4. Are they going to lay down and rest their starters for 3 or 4 games? It sucks now when you have teams doing it for 2 games.

I don't think a team could realistically rest their starts for 4 or even 3 weeks and then get a bye, and THEN expect to be ready to play in the playoffs?
Doubt it...

Calzone brought up that same point, & it's a good one.
I don't want 18 games, as much as I love Sundays in the fall/early winter. If they really need more money, maybe expand to 17 games, with each team having a neutral site game. IMO it is something to at least explore. You'd need 16 appropriate markets (although maybe a couple of those could host more than one neutral site game).

Just clicking; I like going to 18 games and dropping 2 of the pre-season ones. I don't think the season should start until after Labor Day though, it's just an awful big weekend, end of summer and all that. People are getting hurt in pre-season games the way it is, why not let the games count. With players trying so hard to make the team, the last two are played just as hard as a regular games anyway. By extending the rooster to 60 players it would take some of the pressure off making the final cuts, thus not having to see them in the final 2 pre-season games. Change to a 60 man active rooster and the P/PK don't count on it. Eliminate the taxie squad and just have a PUP, IR long and short term squads. This would give each team 7 more positon players every game, a chance to see what they can do and evaluate them. It also would give the players a much better chance making a team or moving on to another. Plus every player would get the minimum salary. The biggest change I would like to see in the NFL is to go back to basics. Like every other sport, the championship game should be played before the home crowd, the people who supported the team all season long for years and who paid the taxes to build stadiums. We deserve it and if the players want real fan support, they should demand it in the CBA. This would be the way to get all the fans behind them, not the super rich who can afford the SB, but their everyday die hard fans, who have been with them no matter what, for years and decades.

That is a good point... so what we will end up with is that those 2 preseason games we got rid of at the beginning of the season will show up at the end as the #1s play most of the first half just to stay sharp, anybody with the slightest injury gets to rest, then the #2s and #3s play the rest of the game.. so the really good teams will still get at least 4 preseason games (they will just get some of them at the end).

This has been addressed by the league starting with this season.
Teams now play rivalry games late in the year reducing the likelihood of inferior play by resting players.
I really don't see this as a valid argument for not playing 2 extra games.

I wouldn't mind 18 if they put them at the beginning of the season (current end of preseason) and cut preseason to two games.
That's what I would want...exactly... I HATE the preseason.... especially the fact that they charge regular season prices for a sub-par game.

And, that's the only reason I care. It's a rip to pay full price for preseason.

Personally, I think they need two bye weeks if they were to expand. And, of course an expanded roster. I don't think they do 70... otherwise they might just open farm teams.
Expanding to 18 games might actually save players from long-term injuries IMO. In an 18 game season, a game means less than in a 16 game season. 1/18 < 1/16. Players know that they'll have to preserve themselves longer so they'll take better precautionary measures to make sure they can play in December.

There has been talk of 55 - 60 man rosters (with no "practice squad) and 2 bye weeks per team as possibilities.
I like both ideas.
I have also read some stuff about modifying the IR rules so that some long term, but not season ending injuries could be dealt with differently than season ending ones.
All of these have merit.
I am in favor of turning 2 pre-season games into regular season games instead. It just makes too much sense not to do it.

You're a fan,...you pay the bills,.... I really could care less if they go 18. I would watch if they went back to 12. And I believe most on here would too,....
