About the USC/ND game: it just proved to me that Quinn isn't worthy of a #1 overall pick.
Big players make big plays in big games, and he didn't make enough to get his team over the hump in the biggest game of his life.

I just watched the 4th...when he should have shown who people think he is. He didn't spread it out, go for the deep ball and so on. I was pretty disappointed with him and the chances he didn't take.

it just proved to me that Quinn isn't worthy of a #1 overall pick. You couldn't tell by the way Mussberger was pimping him all frickin' night to be the next NFL star. Quinn was basically worthless after that hard sack, and 'ol Brett kept touting his toughness. ND was way overrated, and that game proved it.

UCLA handled Oregon St - USC's only loss - pretty easily, winning 25-7. They are 6-5 overall, and 4-4 in the PAC, so no patsy.
On the other hand, UCLA lost to Notre Dame, 20-17.
When it's all said and done, here's hoping USC's 2 losses both come at the hands of (an) OSU.

I expect a game in the 30s with the Buckeyes winning it. It will be somewhat sweet revenge in my eyes for those Rose Bowls where they beat us. You couldn't tell by the way Mussberger was pimping him all frickin' night to be the next NFL star. Ol' Brent does get a little over-hyped at times. I seem to remember this: "The Big Kat comes chargin' hard for the stop. That, ladies and gentlemen, is one young man who's gonna be playin' on Sundays for a long time" Maybe that's where the guys who are always pushing for us to draft the Buckeyes get it from.

USC still has to beat UCLA... and if we do play them they are going to be tough... they have a good team and their WRs are FAST! Their defense is better than I expected. Some really hard hits out there.
In terms of Quinn... I can still see him as the #1 overall. He played alright last night. A few high throws and a LOT of drops by his guys. Had some nice runs as well. He's a tough kid. Just can't beat USC

Just picked up on UCLA's schedule, they beat Oregon State 25-7,.....just keeping the pot stirred,... Anything is possible.
Look at it from the Michgan fan viewpoint, UCLA and Arkansas win, we're right back to Michigan again.
I don't want The Rematch, but this is what makes college football fun. You have to watch every game even when you're team ain't playin.'

Big players make big plays in big games, and he didn't make enough to get his team over the hump in the biggest game of his life. I think you were watching the wrong game. Did he have a standout performance? No but he made some very nice throws. Last night just proved he's been doing it with inferior talent around him, especially at WR, TE and OL. Quinn was on the mark all day when it counted and couldn't get anyone to hang on to a pass when it mattered. He made 14-15 NFL throws yesterday that half the QBs in the league cannot make. He absolutely threaded the needle all night in to tight spots. I personally thought he played very well. The only mistake he made was on the first drive when he overthrew McKnight on the run. Also, his offensive line was horrible all night racking up multiple false start penalties. Hell, the OL couldn't block 3 and 4 man rushes. Brady showed me a lot yesterday, even in a loss..... I would use the #1 pick on Quinn in a heartbeat. I'd much rather watch Quinn in a Browns uni then Frye.

I agree - I'd take Brady over Frye right now in a heart beat! No way he falls that far... but who knows - the way we're playing we could be a top 3 pick this year

As for the national championship, it should be interesting.
Michigan gave OSU's secondary a lot of problems and that was with Manningham at 90-95%. USC has a very good set of receivers and an absolute stud in Jarrett. I don't think their running game is all that good but they do spread you out 4-5 wide and open up running lanes.
On the flip side, why the hell did Mussberger (who is an absolute IDIOT by the way) keep talking about how good USC's defense was? Seriously, if ND's WR's could have held on to the ball, they could have easily won that game.......or atleast had a chance to tie up the score in the 4th.
I didn't see anything from SC's defense that showed even an inkling of hope that they could contain Ginn, Gonzo, etc. Smith is going to have a field day against a defense that has to take way too many chances to get stops. Unless Troy shows up drunk, high or both SC doesn't have a prayer in this game.
I'll take OSU by 14-20 points.

Thanks 'nas,....I didn't feel like the USC performance was as shining as ND's was playing poorly. USC is still a good team though, and they WILL show up on the 8th.
Wonder if Tressel has had any coaching matchups vs Carroll before,....

I am particularly interested in how much closer Florida may have gotten to Michigan,....Urban Meyer is running his mouth before he evens plays Arkansas, about how "unjust" the whole thing is,...I would like a shot at his team too.

Even after getting crapped on by UM and USC many of the ND fans are saying they actually WANT a rematch with UM. Hell, if ND really WANTS to get embarassed again on national TV bring them on. I would love to see Charlie Weis have to look a recruit in the eye, after getting beat down twice by UM and once by USC and try to convince them that ND is the place to come to contend for a national title.

I don't think ND has a snowball's chance in hell at beating UM in the Rose Bowl... unless UM has a huge let down of not making the NC game, which I seriously doubt would happen.
I think maybe UM/UF or even UM/LSU would make for a better game... but whatever.

You can never underestimate the rivalry between the 2 either.. nothing would make UCLA happier than knocking USC out of the NC game.. and they are due for a win.. USC won the last 7 meetings... but its been a crazy year... look what happpened to usc and texas for that matter.

should be a decent game, i think the bucks will prevail and win their second national championship in 4 years...
we're better at quarterback, running back, and i'd even say our team of wide receivers is better than theirs... i know steve smith and dwayne jarrett have tons of pro potential, but the tandem of ginn/gonzalez is pretty damn good, not to mention robiskie who could be a better receiver than either of them...
i think usc has improved since that loss to oregon state, they have a little more confidence...
i was against a rematch, but i still do think michigan is the second best team in the country... they didn't turn the ball over once, and still lost, the game only being close because of the short field we gave them on the bad snaps and tipped interception off of troy smith..
i think coaching may play a huge role in this game, as we have what, 5 weeks to kick this game off? that's a long time, usc may get an edge because they played 2 weeks after the buckeyes finished their season
but if we've all learned one thing, it's that you shouldn't bet against troy smith, he is the best quarterback in the country, the best player, and he's hands down the best big-game player in the country
as far as notre dame goes, like i said before the year started, overrated...
remember when people said they had the best offensive line in the country? what a joke that is...
i thought brady quinn did what he could, but i fault charlie weis more than i do brady quinn
i mean when you go for it on fourth down 7 times, you're not a very good football team...
i think he's vastly overrated as a coach, the irish may still get a bcs game, most likely, but they don't deserve to play in one...
as it stands today, the only ranked team they've beaten that has stayed in the top 25 is georgia tech, and they are on the verge of falling out, as they have wake forest next week, and may lose to them...
the best part is the media says they have the toughest schedule in the country. which to this day, i still don't understand...

Good to hear from you LBJ,....I always enjoy your input.
I just had to go look up the BCS rule on ND,....according to CBS Sportsline.com, they get in by finishing 16th or higher,.....folks talk about fair and deserving,...and that just don't seem right to me. That means a lot of teams ranked higher with two losses that could/might put up a better fight, and who actually played in a competitive conference (the SEC comes to mind) get the green weenie because of this favoritism. Every year then, for the past 8 (??), they go out an get whomped on. My Notre Dame buddy had told me he thought the rule was top 8 of the BCS, and would be happier going to a lesser bowl so they could actually compete,....

OK, my last post was crap---the BCS webSite says ND has to be in the top 8,...as of yesterday's release, that means the Irish might win their game this year. i think top 8 is automatic unless you have 2 conference opponents going ahead of you (like wisconsin not being able to get in because of osu and michigan) but top 13, or 16, and the irish are eligible, and because of their high profile, will get a game... are they deserving? absolutely not... they were by far, the most overrated team in the country, they don't run the ball well, they defend like a flag football team, and honestly, i thought brady quinn was overrated... georgia tech will probably drop out of the top 25 which means for the second year in a row, the irish will not have beaten a top 25 finishing team... pathetic, especially when you rule in about how we all have to hear about how notre dame has the "toughest schedule" how long until the golden domers turn on charlie weis? he's already using nfl leverage to keep the alumni/fans/media off his back... every time someone questions him about a bad loss, he brings up how he has to turn down nfl jobs left and right... how convienent... this team does not deserve a bcs berth, there are teams better than them, that will probably be left out... wisconsin is a much better team this year, and they will get shut out because of the 2 team per conference rule, i think rutgers is a better squad as well, and they won't be going either... i guess the good thing is, if they get a bcs game, we can watch them get run over, again...
