PITTSBURGH (AP)—Just call Troy Polamalu(notes) the man with the million dollar hair.

The long, flowing black hair that tumbles out of Polamalu’s helmet and down his back—it’s nearly three feet long—has been insured for $1 million by Head and Shoulders, the shampoo brand that is endorsed by the Pittsburgh Steelers safety.

The insurance was obtained through Lloyd’s of London, which did not reveal what must be done to Polamalu’s hair for anyone to collect on the policy.

Polamalu’s hair has been targeted by an opposing NFL player at least once— the Chiefs’ Larry Johnson(notes) tackled Polamalu by the hair during a 49-yard interception return in a 2006 game.

Polamalu, a five-time Pro Bowl player, wears his hair long as a tribute to his Samoan heritage.

So if someone removed his hair with ... say .... a blowtorch ........ hif life would be meaningless ..... but his hair's beneficiary would receive $1,000,000? lol

Wonder what would happen if Troy were to go out with old Ben one night ..... get all drunked up ..... and someone shaved Troy's head.

Makes me wonder how much the Blonde Bigfoot from North Carolina is insured for.

I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

He'd be fine as long as he stayed out of the rest room with Ben .

Well it is fairly common for "famous" people to insure their trademark features. It is nothing new.

Kimbo Slice did it with his beard. In fact when he did TUF 10 all the guys in the house were informed that if they did anything to his beard they would be sued.

So does that mean if a player pulls Troy's hair, they will be sued as well?

Perhaps, but it wouldn't fly.

It's not their fault that Troy took that hair onto the field without putting it up into his helmet, knowing full well that once exposed, it is "part of the uniform" and thus open to being used as a grabbing point to make a tackle.

I know I'd be "going for the hair" if I had to make a tackle after an interception.

No, that's not what I ment. If Troy's hair get's pulled during a game it's his own fault because he did not tuck it into his helmut.

I'm not sure if you know what TUF is but it is a reality series for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. They put 16 guys in a house, split them into two teams. Each team trains with a known UFC fighter and at the end of each show there is a two round exhibition fight. The winner moves on the loser is off the show. In the end the last two fighters will fight in a Co-Main event on an actual UFC event with the winner getting a Five fight six figure contract with the UFC.

But while they are in the house they get drunk and do dumb stuff to each other. So the rest of the house was warned that if they did something to his beard while in the house like shave it while he was asleep they would be sued. But if he was punched in the face during a fight and a patch was missing he wouldn't be able to sue someone for that.

I've often wondered, and figure this is as good as place as any to ask...what is a helmut?

It's a helmet that doesn't have a pedigree, of course .......

starting to beleive that Eric Wright is the better defensive back, at least at this point in his career.

3 years in, Palamulu had 7 sacks, 2 ints, 7 fumbles, and 1 touchdown.

3 years in Eric Wright has 1 sack, 8 ints, 2 fumbles, and 1 touchdown.

Eric Wright is the better player, except he doesn't get the media attention.

If the coaches would scheme better I think Eric Wright would catch up on the number of sacks.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

...and he'll always be... since Polamalu is a safety.

(Just messin' with ya a little, LONG.)

Seriously, I do think the difference in numbers is directly related to the roles they play. Wright will probably never equal Troy's sack count because his primary role is always going to be pass coverage. It's also the reason his pick stats are higher than Troy's at the same point in their respective careers.

It's an apples/oranges comparison, because of their differing positions on their teams.

As for the publicity angle, Wright doesn't (yet) play on a Super Bowl team. Wins get you love in the media. Good play is secondary until your team wins the "Bling Derby."
