The Browns made five roster moves on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cleveland Browns today placed defensive lineman Titus Adams on injured reserve and waived the following players: defensive back John Bowie, wide receiver Taurus Johnson, defensive back Gerard Lawson and offensive lineman John Malecki.

I guess that the only surprise is Titus Adams going on IR. I didn't even realize he was hurt (and barely realized he was on the team). In fact, other than Lawson, we didn't cut much of anything.

I wonder how much of a factor Lawson's night in the bighouse played in his release.

I dunno. After all, Jennings is still here. I think its probably got more to do with Haden making him expendable in the backfield and on returns.

It was pretty much a given Lawson was gone, just thought it would be with the 2nd cuts.

They must feel Haden can backup Cribbs as the KO returner and I'm not really surprised that Lawson was cut.

I thought he might be kept around for the last pre-season game, but they must plan on Haden getting more work in that area.

Buccaneers release Derrick Ward.

Talk about a signing that went bad, but Cadillac's had a career rebirth coming off knee surgery and their other backs have risen up. It was his first opportunity as feature back and finally getting his payday last year (4 years, $16 Million) and he only averaged 3.6 ypc last year. Now their offense in general was pretty rough last season but the lack of explosion and production were a bit startling. His 2.6 ypc in the pre-season didn't help his cause either. Personally, I don't even think he'd be worth much of a look if injuries were to mount at the RB spot on the depth chart. Didn't think it would be possible to say that after week 13 last year...

Johnson made a really nice grab on the only pass thrown his way. Steptoe is still on the roster. Why did they even bother bringing Taurus in if he was given essentially no chance to make the team?

I was thinking the same thing. Johnson looked good on that catch and steptoe has looked liked garbage since we drafted him. I would of thought we would of got rid of steptoe before johnson and seen what he could do against chicago with more reps.

Haden is young (but overpaid, so he can't be cut,...) and is better at his "real" job than Lawson is, let alone, he can actually then hold down two spots.

I loved Lawson, but he can't do that.

All rookies are overpaid.. they haven't done a damn thing in the league yet and they get big bucks..

Can i answer that..? I know it was meant for somebody else, but..

i wouldnt say anybody is lambasting you, but i think Haden is the real deal. And all rookies ARE grossly overpaid, so compared to other rookies he is about average or maybe even below in THAT screwy pay scale.
Do you think he is not going to be successful?

I think if im choosing between Lawson and Haden at any pay...i'm picking Haden..even if they make the same $

Just sayin'

Well you did come off as saying we're keeping Haden because of how much we've invested in him, not that he's actually any good. What did you expect?

Patriots have cut Damione Lewis.

Saints cut Bobby McCray.

Steelers gave Justin Hartwig permission to seek a trade.

Texans cut Kris Brown, who was the last original Texan.

Eh ...... no one there I see that I would really want.

Lewis isn't that good anymore. He really seemed to slow down last year.

McCray doesn't fit in our defense. I don't see him making the switch to LB at his age, and I don't see us holding a roster spot to see if he could either.

Hartwig got run over a fair amount last year IIRC. No thanks.

Don't need a kicker .... although I think that Brown will quickly find a job.

Wouldn't be surprised if Heckert has his eye on 1 or 2 of those Eagles that just got released.

I don't think there are any veterans in there that we'd have interest in, and he would have no vested interest in any rookie that got cut.

Well .. Here's one we could probably use...

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that T.J. Houshmandzadeh will be released if the Seahawks can't trade him by Saturday's final cuts deadline.

Onetime USC star and onetime Matt Millen bust Mike Williams will be elevated into the starting lineup, across from Deion Branch. Deon Butler is the favorite for third receiver duties. Housh will still receive his fully guaranteed $7 million salary from the Seahawks (big shout-out to Tim Ruskell), in addition to whatever he can muster on the free agent market. With a bad attitude, declining skills, and a new offense to learn, however, the odds are against Housh being a consistent 2010 fantasy performer. Sep. 3 - 5:57 pm et

Pending moves at the receiver position in Seattle will create reverbations around the NFL.

Williams

Houshmandzadeh

The Seattle Seahawks will cut ties with T.J. Houshmandzadeh by trading or releasing him, according to two league sources, and it will promote former Detroit first-round draft pick Mike Williams into its starting lineup for a Sept. 12 game against San Francisco.

The 32-year-old Houshmanzadeh caught 79 passes last season and will be a bargain for another team this season.

His Seahawks contract includes offset language that makes Seattle liable to pay Houshmanzadeh whatever his new team doesn't.

So if Houshmanzadeh were to sign a veteran minimum deal of $850,000, the Seahawks would be liable for the remaining $6.15 million balance.

Seattle signed Houshmanzadeh to a five-year, $40 million contract last offseason, and Seattle will wind up having paid him $15 million for his one season with the Seahawks.

NFC West blog
ESPN.com's Mike Sando writes about all things NFC West in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Houshmanzadeh's departure means that Williams' story becomes one of the best and unlikeliest of the summer.

He has gone from a player that nobody wanted to a wide receiver that now will start with the Seahawks under his former college head coach Pete Carroll.

Williams will start likely opposite Deion Branch, with Deon Butler and Golden Tate as reserves.

And the Seahawks moves are not done. They also are likely to pursue quarterback Patrick Ramsey, whom New Orleans released Friday. If Seattle landed him, it likely would have to get rid of another quarterback.

I wouldn't mind getting TJ if the price was right...

the Texans released their last original player todayy in Kris Brown. I was sad to see him let go. Kris and his Wife did a lot for our community and specifically at the children's hospital I work at. He had a rough year last year and unfortunatly has been hurt all pre-season.

When did I say he wasn't any good ? Even though, and I'll repeat it, he holds down two spots, something Lawson cannot do at Haden's level, he is still overpaid. It is part of the package.

I think the reverberations could still be around seatle wanting vincent Jackson. San diego just traded for Patrick Crayton of Dallas.

the wheels on the bus go round and round.

wasn't there a post yesterday about Dallas' Huard wanting more playng time or a trade.

was he some kinda disruption or something? and if they gotta pay him anyway why not keep him?

It seems that Carroll is interested in a youthðmovement with the Seahawks... He wants people who will be there when the team becomes "good" again.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh won't be back with the Seahawks
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 3, 2010 6:11 PM ET
The Seahawks would rather pay T.J. Houshmandzadeh huge money to go away than allow him to take another snap with the team.

Just one day after news leaked that the team was trying to trade Housh, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Seattle has decided to cut ties with the receiver after only one season despite owing him $7 million guaranteed this year.

(Schefter reports there is offset language in the deal. Seahawks will have to pay Houshmanzadeh whatever his new team doesn't this year. If the new team pays $1.5 million, the Seahawks pay $5.5 million)

We love the move. Ultimately, Houshmandzadeh was just taking snaps away from young talent that could possibly help Pete Carroll by the time the team is good. There was no chance Houshmandzadeh would have been in Seattle in 2011, and his attitude has been questioned more than once while on the Seahawks.

The most amazing part of the story? Mike Williams is going to be a starting wideout. That Mike Williams.

Some may think Carroll is crazy, but it doesn't hurt to have courage with your convictions. Williams has looked excellent all offseason long and provides a similar possession receiver skill set to Houshmandzadeh.

If Williams doesn't work out, the team still has youngsters Deon Butler and Golden Tate behind him. It's a new era in Seattle, and the team can't get rid of former G.M. Tim Ruskell's mistakes fast enough.

I certainly do not think of TJ as a mistake. I always loved the fact that Chad Johnson ran his mouth.. but TJ made the plays.. I think that Housh would be a GREAT addition to our receiving corps.. at 32/33 years of age.. he still has some good years ahead of him and Massaqoi and Robiske could certainly learn something from TJ's work ethic. The fault most people found with him was a "give me the ball attitude." Given our current WR situation.. my reaction is "GIVE HIM THE BALL." He has proven he can make the plays..

I can see where, since we can't speak in person, you would garner that opinion. But I don't honestly believe that, even IF Lawson was better in this situation, that Haden would get cut. His draft and salary status WOULD come into play, no pun intended.

He complained a lot and just seemed to play the role of the malcontent since the day he signed. Expect Seattle to get Vincent Jackson from San Diego in the next day or two. Otherwise there's no way this would have been done. IMHO.

I think TJ could be of value to the Browns, and I suspect that the Browns would be one of his top 10 teams - 3 being in the AFCN to play Cincy, 3 being in the NFCW to play Seattle, and add in a few potentially super bowl caliber teams such as Minnesota (where I'd bet he ends up), Dallas, ...

That being said, I think it'd have to be a 1 year deal for league min with Seattle picking up the remainder of the tab.
