I guess I don't understand.. Housh caught 79 balls last season and they want him gone? Color me confused..

was he some kinda disruption or something? and if they gotta pay him anyway why not keep him?

Any chance there's old bad college blood here ? Housh from Oregon (I think) while Carroll was at USC, maybe ?

I would like to see TJ in a Browns uniform. Doubt it happens but I would still like to see it.

I agree, even if the guy is getting a little long in the tooth for this game, he'd be an upgrade to what Delhomme has to throw to now.

Guess it depends on if you think we really need a WR upgrade,...I'm more interested in seeing the OLine jell, run the ball and get Delhomme and Wallace the time they need to be able to throw. Can't do that, then a guy like Housh can't help you anyway. JMO.

No doubt he'd be better than Engram or Stuckey; but I'd worry about this head case crap he's getting labeled with, if true.

I think having a legit #1 WR would really help the offense... I'm interested to hear why the Seahawks want him gone, and like I said earlier the price would have to be right.

I doubt we'd get him but he'd be worth a look.

Just looking at the cuts around the league to see if there was any talent worth a look.

UDFA rookie TE Nathan Overbay, might be a possible PS player if he clears waivers and is not signed to Denver's PS.

He is 6'5" and 270 lbs.
From Eastern Washington.
Overbay was also a. Very good basketball player too.

Who knows this kid could be the next Steve Heiden in waiting.
I have seen him play and he caught my eye.
He is not just a blocker at his size either.
I don't really know what Denver's situation is at TE.
He is probably a PS prospect this year.

Oh, I almost forgot.....Cody Brown is the 1st 2009 2nd round pick to be cut.
He was a College DE whom the Cardinals tried to covert to LB.

It looks like cutting a 2nd rounder after only one year is not out of the question

What team tries to take a player who has gotten famous by puttin his hand in the dirt and then stand him up and move him back 3 yards and expect him to have the same pass rush ability? and in the second round! ... glad we dont have any problems like that ...

Hmmm.... any and every team running a 3-4 defense.

The Patriots do it.
We do it.
The Steelers do it.
The Chiefs do it.
The Jets do it.

etc, etc ....

Bengals release Jones....

Report: Bengals release former Jaguars WR JonesNFL.com Wire Reports
Published: Sept. 4, 2010 at 11:38 a.m. Updated: Sept. 4, 2010 at 01:35 p.m. Liked: 3 | Comments: 13 Email Like Print Read Discuss

The Bengals released wide receiver Matt Jones on Saturday, The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy reported, citing a league source.

Jones, a fifth-year pro who spent his first four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, had four receptions for 54 yards in five preseason games with the Bengals. Three of those catches came in the Aug. 8 Hall of Fame Game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Jones, 27, signed a one-year deal with the Bengals in February after not playing in 2009.

Jones was the Jaguars' first-round draft pick in 2005, but he started just five games in his first three seasons. His best season came in 2008, when he had a career-high 65 catches for 761 yards.

Jones was arrested in Arkansas and charged with cocaine possession in July 2008.

In a plea agreement, Jones was ordered to participate in a league-sponsored program that provides substance-abuse counseling. He also had to undergo random drug tests. The NFL suspended Jones for the final three games of the 2008 season for violating its substance-abuse policy.

The Jaguars waived Jones in March 2009 after he was jailed for violating his plea agreement. Jones failed an alcohol screening and told a judge that he drank beer while golfing with friends.

Jones has 166 receptions for 2,153 yards and 15 touchdowns in four NFL seasons. He played quarterback at the University of Arkansas, but the Jaguars moved him to receiver after drafting him.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Bucs release enigmatic WR Clayton, a former first-round pickNFL.com Wire Reports
Published: Sept. 4, 2010 at 01:44 p.m. Updated: Sept. 4, 2010 at 01:59 p.m. Liked: 0 | Comments: 5 Email Like Print Read Discuss

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released wide receiver Michael Clayton on Saturday, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

"They let me go this morning," Clayton wrote in a text message to The Times.

Clayton, a six-year veteran, was the subject of trade talks during the offseason. His guaranteed $3 million base salary -- along with his inconsistent play -- made it challenging for the Bucs to orchestrate a trade.

Clayton's chances of sticking with the Bucs were hindered by the five-year, $26 million contract that he signed before last season. He also produced just 16 receptions for 230 yards and one touchdown in 2009.

Clayton was selected by the Buccaneers with 15th overall pick in the 2004 draft. He led all NFL rookies with 80 receptions for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns in 2004, but he has scored just three touchdowns since.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Third String QB.. Cantwell.. released by Carolina...

Cantwell's release opens door for Pike as Panthers' No. 3 QBAssociated Press
Published: Sept. 4, 2010 at 02:23 p.m. Updated: Sept. 4, 2010 at 01:22 p.m. Liked: 2 | Comments: 4 Email Like Print Read Discuss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers have decided on rookie Tony Pike as their No. 3 quarterback over Hunter Cantwell.

Bruce Tollner, Cantwell's agent, said his client has been released. The move comes as the Panthers must cut 22 players Saturday to reach the 53-man regular-season limit.

The 6-foot-6 Pike was Carolina's sixth-round pick out of Cincinnati. After throwing only one pass in the first three preseason games, he was 10 of 18 for 44 yards while playing the entire second half against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday.

Pike will be behind starter Matt Moore and rookie backup Jimmy Clausen on the Panthers' depth chart.

Cantwell went undrafted last year out of Louisville and spent most of last season on Carolina's practice squad. He was 6-of-9 passing for 36 yards against the Steelers.

Dolphins cut 2009 2nd round pick, Pat White.

Tampa Bay cut Michael Clayton.

Bengals cut Matt Jones.

1) I didn't understand why the Dolphins used a 2nd round pick on Pat White.

2) Why are you releasing him b/c he is perfect for "your" Wildcat system.

Obviously he wasn't a perfect fit for there Wildcat. And they have a QB now, so there isn't a need to run the WIldcat.

Notice none of the teams with good QB's run the Wildcat.

Here's a Leinart link.

Seahawks also cut J.P. Losman today, so they have room for a 3rd QB. And they also have that one coach that used to coach Leinart.

The problem is he thinks he's a starter and his best chance to start is in Arizona. If he would have just kept his mouth shut he would have had the job when Anderson craps the bed.

Broncos cut Brandon Stokley. They drafted Eric Decker, so they had to cut either him or Stokley to make sure they didn't go over the one white wide receiver per team quota.

Chargers cut Nathan Vasher.

He was pretty good at one point for the Bears, he had an 8 INT season in 2005. He's only started 11 games the last three years. The Bears let him walk this off-season. So that's two teams in less than a year.

OWINGS MILLS, Md.—The Baltimore Ravens have released former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Troy Smith(notes) and former fourth-round wide receiver Demetrius Williams(notes), the team announced.

Shayne Graham(notes) was released as Billy Cundiff(notes) won the kicking job and outside linebacker Antwan Barnes(notes) was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for an undisclosed draft pick.

“The competition to make our team was very heated, and we decided to keep a position player rather than a third quarterback," general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "We have a number of young guys who made our team who have tremendous upside, plus they can help us win this year. We’ve gone with two quarterbacks before."

“First, congratulations to Billy. He won a great competition, and he earned this spot," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "We’ve talked about this the entire preseason: Both Billy and Shayne rose to the occasion and performed at high levels. We know Shayne will kick in the league, but we feel very good about the decision to go with Billy.”

Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed(notes) was moved from the physically unable to perform list to the reserve physically unablet o perform list.

The following players were placed on injured reserve: offensive lineman David Hale(notes) (back), rookie tackle Ramon Harewood(notes) (knees), guard-center Stefan Rodgers(notes) (high-ankle sprain) and nose guard Kelly Talavou(notes) (ACL).

The following players were cut: tight end Davon Drew, cornerback Travis Fisher(notes), defensive back K.J. Gerard, Graham, wide receiver Justin Harper, cornerback Chris Hawkins(notes), safety Brad Jones, center-guard Bryan Mattison(notes), outside linebackerAlbert McClellan, offensive tackle Joe Reitz(notes), wide receiver Eron Riley, Smith, running back Curtis Steele, tackle Devin Tyler(notes) and Williams.

Cornerback Cary Williams(notes) has been suspended by the NFL for the first two games of the season for violating the NFL personal conduct policy, and does not count on the 53-player roster.

The Atlanta Falcons got down to the 53-man roster today without any major surprises.

The biggest name released was probably fullback Dan Klecko(notes), whose contract was terminated. The Falcons did waive Keith Zinger(notes), a solid blocking tight end from LSU, and they purged Chevis Jackson(notes), who spent most of last season as the nickel cornerback.

Waived were tight end Robbie Agnone(notes), wide receivers Troy Bergeron(notes) and Tim Buckley(notes), running back Dimitri Nance(notes), center Blake Schlueter(notes), wide receivers Andy Strickland(notes) and Ryan Wolfe(notes), safeties Rafael Bush(notes) and Eric Brock(notes), cornerback Dominique Daniels(notes), linebacker Weston Johnson(notes), defensive ends Maurice Lucas(notes) and Emmanuel Stephens(notes), guard Jose Valdez(notes) and linebacker Bear Woods(notes). The Falcons also waived-injured wide receiver Brandyn Harvey(notes).

Report: Vikings release Javon Walker
Posted by Evan Silva on September 4, 2010 5:04 PM ET
Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Vikings have released wide receiver Javon Walker.

The move would not have come as a surprise when Walker signed with the Vikes on August 24. But the once left-for-dead receiver was productive in the preseason, catching six balls for 119 yards and two touchdowns in two games, including a 63-yard scoring bomb from rookie quarterback in the exhibition finale.

Such as? Housh has already signed with Minnesota? I haven't seen any other Wr's worth a look. I see a few depth OL/DL but thought the Wr's were lacking.

Almost forgot the link http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFL&filter_position=Skill

The Vikings have signed T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a source tells FOX6 Sports in Milwaukee.
Even FOX6 itself seems unsure of its own report, saying they can not "personally confirm nor deny" their source's claim. Still, the signing would make a ton of sense for the Vikings, who have lost Sidney Rice to a hip injury and cut Javon Walker today. Although Housh is well below average after the catch and as a playmaker, he can still help the Vikings as a possession receiver.

Matt Jones and Javon Walker, if healthy and in shape, can be a solid pickup for a team. Whether that team is us or not, I don't know. Engram appears to be ready to offer fringe veteran ability as is.

Javon Walker hasn't played a game in the NFL since 2008 when he had 15 receptions for 196 yards.
