The FO has to look at the situation like Fraley is not the only fish in the sea. There are other prospects in free agency, the draft and on the roster that can play center. If he is signed for 2007, Philly gets a 6th round pick instead of a 7th round pick in 2008. Those factors have to be considered. In spite of this, it makes sense to have #66 come back. Proceeding as if LCB may never return would be prudent.

Well, If we are going to replace the LT or RT and one or both OG's with either draft picks or FA's, I just don't think it is wise to let Hank walk.

Ironic how Bentley wanted to be number 00... Sadly thats what he is amounting to here.

Dude, that's a bit of a LOW BLOW toi LCB. I mean he didn't intend for this injury to happen. Plus his career could be over.

Way to sign up and start kicking a guy when he's down with your 1st few posts. Not the best way to make friends around here rookie.

Bentley has done nothing. Nothing except show a love for Cleveland and the desire to be a Brown. Let's try to show some class.

I hate that crap about how many posts you have. How do you know that he didn't post on the old board before this one Jester? May be he doesn't have all day to type on the board and just reads it. I have like 20 posts or something, am i a rookie? Cause i've been going to this board since we were drafting KW2. You got no idea who he is so don't make assumptions. I don't even see how he was insulting LeCharles. It's true, the guy wanted 00, and he hasn't produced for us. it's not his fault, but it sucks for the team as well

Notice she's disappeared?

Probably a gag order from Hank himself.

I cant blame her, some people on this board would push and push for answers, or start telling her what to tell Hank, and try to negotiate his contract for him, some think they do know everytihng and if ya dont see it thier way your wrong, so i cant blame Danille for getting off this board while this is going on...plus they have a new little one and a younger one that probebly a handfull....Hank is on the off season so hopefully they took off for Hawaii or someplace warm....Hopefully Danille will be back after everything is taken care of...she's a great person, fun to talk to...

Bentley doubtful for 2007
Browns GM concedes that team will need to add two linemen to make up for injuries, free agents
By Patrick McManamon
Beacon Journal sportswriter
BEREA - General Manager Phil Savage pretty much confirmed that LeCharles Bentley will not be playing for the Browns in 2007.

Bentley most likely will have another surgery in May or June on the torn patellar tendon that sidelined him last season. Savage said the Browns would carry Bentley through the 2007 season, then evaluate his future.

``I think we certainly owe LeCharles an opportunity to see where he's going to be,'' Savage said Tuesday of the center. ``This time next year I think we'll have a much clearer picture in terms of -- is he a legitimate piece of the puzzle here or has the injury been so devastating that he'll never play again?

``I think that's something we'll know clearly this time a year from now.''

Bentley was the Browns' prize free-agent signee a year ago, but he tore the patellar tendon in his left knee on the first day of training camp -- a near-unbelievable stroke of bad luck.

Bentley had immediate surgery to repair the tendon -- which holds the kneecap in place -- but soon after was back in the Cleveland Clinic for surgery to treat a staph infection. Bentley is in Arizona rehabbing the knee, in part because he needs to strengthen it if/when he has surgery.

``If we get LeCharles back this year, then it's going to be a bonus,'' Savage said.

Savage did not detail what another surgery would entail, but it clearly seemed to be needed to repair the already repaired tendon.

With Bentley hurt, Hank Fraley -- acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles after training camp -- started at center. Fraley will be a free agent March 2, and Savage said the Browns are trying to re-sign him. Bentley's injury, plus the impending free agency of guard Cosey Coleman and the struggles of Joe Andruzzi, prompted Savage to concede that the team needs (at a minimum) to add two linemen via free agency or the draft.

Brownies . . .

Cornerback Daylon McCutcheon, who missed last season with cartilage damage in his knee, does not appear to be in the Browns' future. Savage said he was not comfortable addressing whether McCutcheon was part of the team's plans for 2007. McCutcheon might learn his future when he visits the Browns next week to have his knee examined.... Savage said cornerback Gary Baxter is ahead of schedule in his comeback from tearing both patellar tendons. Baxter still faces a tough challenge to play again.... Tackle Ryan Tucker, who left the team with an undisclosed mental illness, has been in the building. ``I haven't seen Ryan personally myself, but I think he's doing OK right now,'' Savage said.... Tight end Kellen Winslow is still on crutches after surgery to repair cartilage damage in his knee. ``We're expecting him to be back and ready to go sometime in June or July,'' Savage said.

I had not heard of this. Too injury prone, or knees more damaged than originally thought?

Not to feed the "agenda" crowd around here, but ever since the headache's, has his desire to play dropped?
You wonder if he's just trying to complete his contract, but is no longer physically able to play. It'll be interesting to see if he even tries to catch on with another team.

"Head" injuries are scary things - especially for such a young guy.

I hope he's well.

Winslow still on crutches?

Does that seem normal?

Seems like he had the surgery quite a while ago.

For something that was termed routine, this doesn't seem to add up.

It's also a really efficient way to end up on everyone's "ignore" list.

How do YOU Know he isn't reading this? Beyond that I was taught to not say something you wouldn't say to someones face. Would you walk up to LCB and say that [censored]? I know I wouldn't even if I thought your sentiment was right. LCB wanted to be brown. I for one love that. I'm pulling for him and not matter what I want him to play AS A BROWN. I don't care if it's a Rudy type play, but I hope he gets a snap in a real game. I'm a huge homer and I think he will be back. This is an interior lineman we are talking about. One with a huge frame. I'd hate for him to lose a step, but I think he'll be back. Unless his knee won't bear his wt, he is a mauler and will continue to be a strong dude.
As for Danielle and Hank and Baby, I hope they are here to stay. I liked Hank's play and was thinking of him for next years jersey. I keep picking losers on my jerseys though so I'm trying to be careful (example 2 years ago...Winslow jersey (wich might end up being a good jersey) and last year....suggs jersey. sigh.) * I know I spelled that wrong just to lazy to look it up. Have a great day everyone!! Remember BROWNS WILL WIN THE SUPERBOWL!! SOON.

Shame for all those badly injured....but time goes on.

New horses for up front...FAs and 2 or 3 draft picks... let the games begin.

Bentley likely out for 2007
Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
02.24.2007
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Browns think they'll have to play the 2007 season without LeCharles Bentley, but they don't believe Bentley's career is over. Bentley suffered a torn patellar tendon on the first day of training camp last July. He's currently rehabbing in Arizona, and Browns general manager Phil Savage said Friday that Bentley "most likely" will need additional knee surgery in May or June.

That surgery would officially eliminate any chance he'll play in '07, but Savage said "our expectation is that LeCharles will make it back."

"We just don't know when that's going to be," Savage said. "(Bentley) is very positive about his chances to come back. That's his life mission, to come back and play for the Browns at a Pro Bowl level."

Bentley, a Cleveland native, made two Pro Bowls in four years with the Saints before signing with the Browns on the first day of free agency last March.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel offered updates on two more high-profile players trying to come back from knee problems, saying that Kellen Winslow is "anxious" to start running again but won't be participating in any team activities until June following his Jan. 30 knee surgery.

Savage said Winslow's microfracture surgery "wasn't as extreme" as some previous microfracture surgeries other athletes have endured. He said Winslow sought multiple opinions after the season and decided "to get this fixed once and for all."

Gary Baxter still faces a long road back from his two torn patellar tendons last October, but Crennel said Baxter is "making good progress" and has been walking around Browns Headquarters without assistance.

"Gary will tell you he's trying to make history," Crennel said. "He's there every day rehabbing. He's on a mission."

Bentley's injury last season started a chain reaction of turmoil at the center position that was finally stabilized by the early September pickup of Hank Fraley, who's eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next Friday. The Browns have only one center under contract -- 2006 undrafted rookie Rob Smith -- and though Savage said he's had talks with Fraley's representatives this week, "I'm not sure which way that is going to go."

Crennel said the Browns are concerned that they could lose Fraley and starting guard Cosey Coleman to free agency but will be prepared for every scenario. He said offensive line and cornerback are among the areas the team will address in free agency.

"It's no secret we have to put a priority in some positions," Crennel said.

One bit of good news regarding the offensive line came when Crennel said he's talked with Ryan Tucker, who's been in the building working out on a regular basis.

"He tells me he's good and anxious to come back," Crennel said.

The Browns will immediately shift their focus from the combine to the free agency period next week. Savage said talks with Fraley "could go into the 11th hour," as they often do with players debating the merits of staying with a team versus hitting the open market.

When the market does open, Savage said he doesn't anticipate the Browns matching last year's eight-man free agent class, but "we still feel like we'll get out there and take some swings."

This was just up on the main site---some kinda decent news on the big LCB.

I hope the time off has done him good... we could certainly use him back if he's ready to play.
