Kayla? Come on...I think Bernice would have been better. Well, at least I tried that with my wife (and got shot down in .0002 seconds).

Congrats!

The best congratulatory comment I ever heard regarding a baby is ....

"Congratulations on getting her to do all the work"

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Congrats, Canadian.

Li'l girls are a blessing... and they'll teach you all the Fatherly things that are necessary....

Protectiveness, patience, vigilance, forbearance, strength, tenderness....

...you'll become a better Man for being the Father of a girl.

My hat's off to ya, my friend. Be the best you can be now... because another's future is riding on it.

I couldn't be happier for you and your Missus.

_______________

Unsolicited advice: get a shotgun (if you don't already have one...) and place it near the front door. Get the entire family comfy with it being in that spot. You'll be happy you did, in about 13-14 years... when those no-good boys start coming around....

To this day, my "li'l sis" blames My Father for her lack of social life during her Jr. Hi / High School years (Our Pops was also second-in-command of our local Police Force, so that might have had a little something to do with it...).

BUT- she was well- protected by the men in her life, and was still a sweetheart on her wedding day... and she's now the proud Moms of 7 kids and SIXTEEN grandkinder...

("Great Uncle Clemdawg" needs a scorecard (with crib notes) to keep'em all straight these days.)

But I'll tell you this much- family reunions are a great, uproarious time. So much life and potential. They're all treasures... and I'd give my life for any one of them.

Such is the way of Family.

Dawg- you've been blessed (but you already know this.) Enjoy and embrace your blessing with your last breath. You are a lucky man.

LMAO!

Young dude came to the door one afternoon, asking to see My Li'l Sis.

He was a good kid, from a good family. Played backup linebacker on the varsity team, and rocked a pretty nice six-pack. LOTS of young ladies fancied him... but he had eyes for My Sister that Summer.

Kid made only one mistake... he showed up at the front door without a shirt.

Now, mind you- it was hot that day. Really hot. Global-warming hot. I'd spent the entire day running around with no shirt, too... but I wasn't standing on My Pops' front stoop, looking to spend time with My Li'l Sis.

God is in the details.

Pops opens the door, sees Steven, and says, "How can I help you, young man?"

Steven is polite. He does and says all the right things. Asks if Laurel is home.

Pops says: "Why yes... she is. But she's only allowed to visit with young men who know how to dress themselves like they were raised by a good family. Go home, put on a shirt... and then we can continue this coversation."

Pops didn't stand for no mess, yo. Follow the rules, or get steppin'.

30 minutes later, Steven returned... wearing a shirt.

Pops was impressed. BUT... it didn't keep him from putting the kid through the usual paces. Poor kid ran the gauntlet like some skel "getting sweated in the box" at One Police Plaza.

Sis hated on Pops for a week after that... but I had the priviledge of seeing The Master at work. It was something to see, trust me.

Fathers of girls have a particularly important role. Not only do they have to protect their daughters from the evils of testosterone, they must also serve as role models for the kind of young men that their daughters take to, when they finally come of age.

It's a huge job... but the Good Fathers do it well....

...with lots of love, attention... and a fair amount of gun-cleaning oil.

Ah yes, the halcyon days of youth .... picking up a girl for a date ..... meeting the father who could not possibly be that evil in "real life" ...... but who put on a good show.

I'm glad that I have no kids so I don't have to become that evil ......

"Global-warming hot"

Once again Clem you pluck the strings of the English language. Good stuff.

I have 3 daughters and it can be a challenge. You are so right about providing an image of what a good man is. My 2nd oldest is as big a Browns fan as anyone. We always had our own gameday cheer / rituals. She is engaged to a hard working young man who is also a Steeler fan. The kid's got a good soul despite his football loyalties. I may bring both of them up to a game this year and I'm sure my fellow Dawgies will play nice.

Bless your dad. His fortitude and guidance is the backbone of families.

Not only is he good with words - and at the risk of slightly embarrassing him - I can tell you Clem is a fine musician.
I've heard his work, trust me on that one.

Congrats to CanadianDawg, by the way!

Clem, you and the boys sure do wax poetic when it comes to telling bout raisin girls. Being an only child and female, I had a bit rougher road to go. It wasn't just daddy that watched out for those bad boys, it was all the men iin my family.

You are so right about giving a good role model to your girls for a good man type to look for. I will say that most of the men over the years never lived up to daddy's role model. I have to say though, I finally found the perfect guy that daddy would have loved.

Gentlemen, be proud that you have little girls to raise, turn them into well adjusted young women and let them know how much you love them. They may not appreciate it while growing up but let me tell you all now.....we do appreciate our daddy's and everything they do for us.

Congrats on the new addition to the family Canadian. Little girls are what makes this world go round....without us, you men would forget what beauty is
