Let's try this again.
This thread is for talking about the Browns Cuts and the Browns Cuts only.
This thread is NOT about discussion of whether or not Twitter is an allowed site, whether it should be, or whether you're made that it is/isn't.
This thread is NOT about other teams cuts.
This thread is about the Browns Cuts.

Didn't see this one ..... http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Source-Browns-cut-CJ-Mosley.htmlSource: Browns cut C.J. Mosley September 04, 2010, 01:31 PM EST The Cleveland Browns have released veteran defensive lineman C.J. Mosley, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Mosley broke his right ankle last season and had been rehabilitating the injury. Mosley appeared in 12 games with one start last season, recording 18 tackles.

From NFL.com Quote:
Notable cuts: CB Brandon McDonald.
Others: WR Jake Allen, WR Syndric Steptoe, OL Casey Bender, OL Joel Reinders, TE Joel Gamble, DB Coye Francies.
NFL.com
Cut deadline is 3:00 (6:00 eastern). So we should hear the rest of the names soon. I read that sometimes teams don't even announce their cuts publicly because they don't want other teams to notice, hoping to slip a guy through to the practice squad.
Really surprised McDonald got cut.

<---- @ cutting BMac... really dumb move Heikert. really dumb move. I guess they are putting Deangelo Smith in his spot? You know what you have w/ BMac, and you don't know squat about Smith (besides preseason & camp)... Don't understand it at all.

While I would have liked McDonald as our 4th corner we can't say it is a dumb move...yet.
Adams can play for us at corner and safety, and he's better than McDonald on special teams. Adams can fill three spots, McDonald fills one.

I'm alright with cutting BMac, he was a liability with tackling even if he made a decent play here and there. It also doesn't help his case with spouting off about random players. If he would've let his play be consistent and kept his mouth quiet he would still be on this team.

I would have rather kept Bmac over D. Smith...
Goodness.. Bmac once shut down Andre Johnson, potentially the best WR in the league right now.. He's only 25, and still young, and generally makes great plays on the ball.
Smith was pimped hard coming out of Nati', but other than that... nothing.

Maybe they really want to have a team full of tough tacklers .. that combined with Mcdonald is heading into his final year of his original rookie contract ...
Just seems weird that we WOULD cut him... but it could be his a. lack of special teams help b. inability to play the run c. could be the coaches have already put in a claim (if possible) on another former vet and just want to clear space (whether it was an eagle, a jet, or anyone else) d. something behind the seens that we never knew or heard about (arguing with mangini, ryan, heckert, etc.) e. could just be the attitude in general and we dont need problems on the team (front flip into the end zone for example during the scrimmage..?)

yea.. I'm sure those are some of the reasons, but... I don't know. Seeing that he would have been the 4th/5th corner on our team, this cut probably won't do too much to hurt/help us, but I was a BMac fan, and he will be missed.
On another note, I see the Colts cut Adam Terry OT, and the Bengals cut Dezmon Briscoe WR... I'd like to bring both of those guys in here. And for whatever reason, Briscoe and Robiskie look like brothers.

Well this is where we can make up a LOT of ground on some of the other teams in the AFCNorth by shedding our backups to pick up some gems (or marginally better players) that are hitting waivers today...
I must admit I was excited to see McDonald .. a guy who had his good and bad days ... but nonetheless experience against other teams' #1 and #2' ... get the chance to cover teams #3,4, and 5's .. then again .. a lot of nickel players end up covering slot receivers and backs coming out of the backfield ... and if bmac cant play the run .. how is he supposed to put his head in on a tightend or on a 220 lb back on a swing route or a screen ...
switching from the outside to the inside might be easier in terms of "skill" but it always requires a sense of physicality ... and I dont know the bmac would be ready for that?

They turned in the cuts, but don't have to publicly announce them until 8. WTF?

This waiting is killing me! I think McDonald is a mistake. He was hurt most of last year, and has shown great ability before that.

Cutting our 4th CB, who has had issues with not wanting to follow coaching and follow the defensive schemes ..... well ..... if cutting him is the worst move we make ..... we'll be OK.

We have to wait till 8 now? The suspense is killing me. And who will be the 4th CB now? I'm a little confused about the BMac cut too. I wonder if it had much to do with his twittering...?

Considering how open Mangini has been with the information flow in the past, this is totally shocking to me!

..the return of hank poteat ...
nah Im just playing ... I bet we have between 3 and 5 new players on our roster within a week.. just being number 50 to 53 on the roster doesnt mean you made the team, it justs means you're holding the spot warm until a better player clears waivers or is cut from their team ...
that being said ... our 4th corner might be on someone elses roster right now ... or our 3rd / 4th safety .. or 4th or 5th dlineman ... or 6th / 7th olineman .... and on and on ..

BMac had a reputation of wanting to freelance on the field. He didn't always play the scheme the way the coaches drew it up.
The Browns went out of their way to make sure that CB would be a position of strength this year. They didn't do that because they were thrilled with everyone's play from a year ago.
Also, remember that the Browns went to far as to bench McDonald last year.
He has some talent ... enough to play in the NFL. Whether he has the ability to play on a team, as a member of a team ...... doing what the team requires of him .... that is the (still remaining) question.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Cleveland Browns withhold names of cuts Published: Saturday, September 04, 2010, 7:45 PM Updated: Saturday, September 04, 2010, 7:51 PM Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND -- The Browns say they will announce their roster cuts around 8 p.m. They reported their cuts to the NFL by the 6 p.m. deadline, but are hoping to conceal the names as long as possible to give teams less time to make decisions on claiming them. Because of the volume of cuts on this day, there is a backlog on the NFL waiver wire. All names don't appear on the wire until about two hours after the 6 p.m. deadline. It's possible the delay means there are a few players on their cut list who they will try to bring back. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/09/cleveland_browns_withhold_name.html

These stupid waiver rules and squad limits make me ill, but I suppose other teams are finding ways to build depth in the same situation,...

It's hidden in Tom Heckert's front pants pocket.
Right hand side.
Under his car keys.

Some of the best players in the league do this...
ie Ed Reed, Troy P., D. Revis, Shaun Rogers.. It's called being instinctive.. To a degree, all players cannot do this.. but BMac has the talent to do it..

Not when you wind up leaving your guy, or area of responsibility, wide open.
Why do you think that McDonald got benched last year? Do you think that Adams was an overall moretalented and gifted CB? No ... but he did play the defense as he was supposed to so.

Its TRU (lol sorry ... ) .. it's true that some players can be instinctive .. but it's also true that when polamolu goes "rogue" and wanders .. it can either be a huge play .. or it can be more pressure on the other safeties and corners to cover his assignment ...
same with rogers... he can bust through the line but that leaves his gap completely open and unprotected ..
Im not diagreeing that it can be done .. but its like a double edged sword, you can take the chance to play out of your spot but if you do its a boom or bust move for that play ..
we have seen some plays where mcdonald can make a huge play (pick or batted pass) ... but we've also seen a few that go half the field because he is just a few inches from the ball / defender by going instinctive ..
if it doesnt fit in with our plans ... then I hope the move doesnt burn us

If a young starter from last year is being cut, that is great news for the Browns. That means we are getting better! Thank you BMac and good luck in Baltimore.
