Fly down to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, St. Pete Beach is a nice hang-out for the locals if you're only going to spend a couple of days. While you're there, drive a bit north and find a place called Philthy Phils. It's another locals hang-out but if you can catch it while a Bucs game is on TV, every time they score, shots are on the house! They make an awesome fried grouper with cheese sandwich too! Philthy PhilsWhat do you know, they have a web page.

Australia is great if you can make it there sometime! Key West is also good...much cheaper and a lot of fun in the sun! St. Petersburg Beach is cool.......lots of fun places to hangout and see a really nice sunset and a nice breeze off the ocean! The ocean is a good place to be at night.....a great place!

Yeah, by the time they got there, they could jump into the water for a couple hours then head back.

New Orleans is my long weekend destination of choice. Great food, great culture, casino, interesting art/jewelery/antique shops and I hear they serve alcohol there.

He said he wants to get OUT of Pennsylvania
Funnily enough, the exact same thing popped into my head when I read the thread title.

jamaica san diego san francisco keys
in that order
it costs a little more to get to jamaica, but once you are there it is very cheap. my favorite place for the money
you can get to california for 220 rd trip. cant go wrong w southern california. san francisco is very cool. not real warm though.
miami, keys are cool. me my son and a buddy are going to the miami browns game in dec. really looking forward to that trip. there you go, take her to a browns game in miami.
red eyes coming back from vacation = another day of vacation. remember that red eye + zanax + a beer = "sir its time to get off the plane. we have arrived at you destination"

Yeah,, he gave me a heck of a deal down there, but because of the wifes surgery a few years ago, I couldn't take advantage of it..
I don't think he's with that hotel anymore however..........

Why wait until the first of the year? I hear there is something going on in Tampa, Florida this Sunday that would be fun to go to.... As for actual advice, it depends on what you and the wife like to do.. In January if you really want to lay on the beach and toast then you need to go farther south but if you just want some warmth and if you like history and beautiful places I would recommend Savannah Georgia or my favorite place, Charleston, SC.. Average highs in Charleston in January are in the 60s so its comfortable for golf or walking around and sightseeing.. not warm enough for the beach though if thats what you want to do... I think Charleston is beautiful...

ODesn't really have to be a beach, just somewhere to relax pretty much maybe do a little sightseeing. Like I said the wife started back to school this semester and she is putting in 60+ hrs a week between school and her job(plus she has a side job cleaning the office she works in on nights she doesn't have school). Well while going to the game is inviting she got us tickets to the falcons game in October. ( My first game!!)

Take a 3 day Caribbean cruise. No driving, all the food you can eat, sun and fun all day, entertainment at night. All without having to leave your "hotel". Short of an all-inclusive resort, it's the best bang for your buck. Plus you can go ashore during port days and see new places or just stay on the ship which empties out during that time and have the place mostly to yourself.

That's a great idea for a weekend getaway. I keep trying to convince my hubs to go on a cruise, but so far, he's reluctant. I've been on one and loved it.
It's just as Florida said...you can soak up the sun, swim and various other on board activities, eat all day and have entertainment at night - my ship had a small casino on it, plus shows and dance clubs.

Check a place like Expedia.com for their "Last Minute Deals". Those deals are basically flight and hotels that need to be filled or they'll go empty for the coming weekend. They have "Last Minute" cruises, too.

Ok, first of all, how warm do you want it? Hot or just comfy for sweaters and jeans? For the New Year Apache Family Campground and Pier do a bonfire for the New Year party. They have been doing a bonfire on the beach for years. The area is beautiful and the weather is really nice. Days with sunshine can get into the mid 60's and evenings are in the 40's. The folks I know who come down from Ohio all say the same thing. If it's warmer than 32 it's a heatwave Oh, just so you know, I'm talking about Myrtle Beach, SC. The entertainment during the winter isn't exactly like it is during the season. Off-season, House of Blues is always getting someone worth seeing.

Thanks everyone for all the great ideas! But my wife actually gave me the idea on where to plan our get away. She commented the other day how she would like to go back to where we to our honeymoon. Which was renting a cabin in Hocking Hills Ohio. So i casually mentioned something about wonder what it is like in the winter, and she said she thought it would be fun to rent a cabin out there during the winter , sit out in the hot tub with snow falling etc. So I am going to run with that idea.

I wouldn't bank on the snow falling part, it is southeast Ohio. They get less snow than columbus, and columbus only gets 29 in per year. I've tried to do something like that before, but the snow is so unpredictable in that region.
Good luck though

Shhhhhhhh! We don't know how long he's been married. Maybe he's not aware of that yet.

You can get some great deals in Florida in general, and the Florida Keys specifically (not that I'm biased or anything....lol) in January. Rental cars at Avis are usually fairly cheap and if you buy your tickets in advance, Florida is a hot spot for airline deals.
As far as hotels and such, well, that's where I can point ya in very specific directions as I manage hotels here. Send me a PM if you're interested and we can see if there's something that interests ya. Even if you don't stay with me/my hotel I can give you some advice/tips etc for coming down.
And thanks for the heads up! ;-D
